Let's Talk Packers

Here's a little bit of nothing and all of the something that supposedly happened this week.

I apologize but I had to take a few days away from Packer news last week. It's inevitable that at some point I just get sick of hearing the same thing over and over and over again. I swear when the Johnny Jolly story broke, it took less than 15 minutes for 20 articles to pop up to discussing the matter.

Even so, people continue to keep talking about how so much happened this week. But, does any of it really mean anything? The simple answer is no.

I was going to post about Jolly, but all the bases seem to have been covered pretty well. Personally, I think the Packers were prepared for this, knew it was coming in some capacity, and thus this should not be shocking news to anyone. True, I am on record saying the Packers should not out-right cut Jolly, but I never planned on having him to begin the season. The NFL did a huge favor for the Packers here. They did a bigger favor for Ted Thompson.

Since when did signing draft picks become huge news? I was glad to see Burnett ink the deal, but come on. This is going to go down like it does every year. Picks 3-7 will be signed by camp, pick 2 will come close, and Bulaga will be a couple days late. You can take that to the bank. You know what else you can take to the bank? Atari Bigby showing up on time and squashing all this Burnett is going to take Bigby's job nonsense to rest.

Moving on, I am by no means a Chmura hater. I was a huge Chewie fan back in the day, and as many Packer fans was disappointed with his arrest way back when. I am happy to see him in the Hall-of-Fame, but still feel like there is an asterisk hidden somewhere in the fine print. I touched on that briefly this week on Cheesehead Radio.

Great job this week by Brian Carriveau in getting the inside story on Woodson. I love Charles too, he's my favorite guy. However, basically he smelled some smoke and said, "We better got out of here." A smart decision by Charles, but outside of having fun, let's not make this into a power of Greyskull moment.

Can someone please get Jermichael Finley a PR guy? I know this whole TGIFinley thing is fun on Twitter, but will someone please tell this kid he can't print up a bunch of T-Shirts with an altered TGIFridays logo as his trademark. Dude, that's so not going to fly. Even with your questioned acquisition of the phrase aside, your execution in building the brand is terrible. Please Jermichael, get ahold of me for some help.

I still have a bitter taste in my mouth about the whole Rodgers thinks what LeBron did was okay thing. I'll stop there.

In other boring moments, there was money. I don't care about the money, how it works, or anything of the sort. I know I pay a lot of it to go to Packer games, and that's all that matters to me.

To conclude, my real rant of the day is about mission statements as they relate to Packer bloggers. It used to be semi-original to have a mission statement that talked about how you weren't going to regurgitate the news and only give hard hitting opinion. Now, it's just getting old and tired. If you're not going to give the news, give me an intelligent breakdown. If you can't do that, give me something no one else has, like an exclusive interview. If you can't do that, create something to wow people. If you can't do any of that, then please just don't bother. It's okay, really.

Have a great weekend.

I agree about the LeBron thing. Amazing how all of the athletes just didn't get why people thought it was classless. Someone said it was a balck day for sports fans, one that made you question any emotional involvement in it. That about sums it up for me.

I know exactly what you mean, but it gets tough this time of year to find good stuff to write about. I know the advice would be to take a break, but my site is barely on the map as it is, so I can't just stop posting. We've just got to be patient for a few more days I guess.

The Lebron thing left a lot of people with a sour feeling especially Packer fans cause it was a bit Favrish of how Lebron handled the situation. I agree with Rodgers to a certain point. Lebron has a right to go where he wants that doesn't bother me, what does is all the hype about "The Descision". I think Cleveland fans deserved more respect and humility on Lebrons part rather than the whole soap opera he put them through.

I'll put the O/U on people who get the "power of Greyskull" comment @ 45%, I'll take the Under.

"The NFL did a huge favor for the Packers here. They did a bigger favor for Ted Thompson" = Agree 100%

As for Chewie, the man was never convicted of anything as far as the law is concerned, though he has paid a steep fine. He has come back from that 'incident' and proven himself to be an asset to the community, a solid family man an an ardent Packer Backer. I commend him for all of the above.

Camp here yet?

One thing the Jolly suspension does is allow TT to concentrate on Jenkins contract this year without having to worry about Jolly's as well.

Normally Picks like Bulaga are signed by now, but the signings seem to be going a little slower this year due to the CBA.

Depth wise, I think they're just as good as last year. I can see Raji taking on Jolly's production. You have three solid starters and what will probably be a solid back-up in Neal. As far as the no 5 and 6 DL go, I'de take Rookie CJ Wilson and 2nd year Jarius Wynn (maybe Harrell too) over Michael Montegomery and Rookie Jarius Wynn.

With reports of Dez Bryant getting close to a deal with the Cowboys, I expect Bulaga to be signed before TC.

I'd have to look, but I think everyone since AJ has been at least a day late.

I don't remember Harrell, but 2008 there wasn't a 1st rounder, and Raji was way up, and neither the #8 or the #10 had signed before TC.

Having a close slot signed makes things a lot easier...
