Trio of Packers CBs fined after last week's loss vs. Lions
-- A trio of Green Bay Packers cornerbacks were fined for conduct the league evidently deemed detrimental to its integrity in last week's loss to the Detroit Lions.
Kevin King and rookie Josh Jackson were both docked $10,026 for unnecessary roughness/facemask penalties, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
Undrafted rookie cornerback Tony Brown was fined the same price for unsportsmanlike conduct/taunting after defending a pass in the third quarter.
Brown, seeing his first extensive look at live game action in the NFL, stood over Lions receiver Kenny Golladay after breaking up the pass and glanced down at him for what seemed like a second.
This is the second consecutive week the league has fined members of the Packers' club. Two weeks ago against the Buffalo Bills, linebacker Blake Martinez was fined $13,369 for taking off his helmet in the midst of a minor fight after a play was over.
Jackson, a victim of this week's discipline from the league office, was also fined for unnecessary roughness against the Bills. That's two weeks in a row the Packers' second-round pick has been cracked down upon with the same price.
These are the only instances this season in which the Packers have seen their players fined. Safety Kentrell Brice was fined $20,054 for roughing the passer in the preseason.
The Packers welcome the San Francisco 49ers into Lambeau Field on Monday night.

Stupid is as stupid does. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes, but they also hurt the team.

Does the commissioner hand out fines to other players for facemask/unnecessary roughness penalties? If not then why the Packers? I've seen many unnecessary roughness penalties in the NFL that never drew any fines or facemask penalties either. I didn't get to watch the game because it was not broadcast in my area. Was the penalties severe enough to support a fine? Or is this more uncalled for BS from Goodell against one particular team? I really don't know. I did not see the calls, but many penalties of this nature go without the player being fined.

This is PC crap from the league office after the game. All of this is the commissorer's office trying to force their interpretation on a whole set of passing rules and by passing the committee who left the chuck, hands and access pass routes rules in place. CM3 all over again. This has nothing to do with player protection, otherwise we be seeing offensive personal fouls on TE/WR all over the place. Goodell and his chief head official choose Green Bay to make their 'statement'. If I were Mike McCarthy, I would be livid. If Goodell keeps going down this road on the passing game, it will only create more confusion for the game officials and make the game flow impossible.

So, IMO if you force the NFL to say they are wrong, expect to be a victim of the leauge office as soon as they can watch the game film, were any Bills or Lions players fined I wonder??? Do we have a new definition of targeting!?

Looking closer at the facemasks, their fingers were just smudging the visor. A real facemask turns the ball carriers head and is obvious. All judgement calls are getting out of hand also. The NFL has a huge credibility problem and watering down the product on the field with minutia only compounds the issues. High school and college gridiron conflicts are more entertaing and enjoyable.

This is the NFL's police version of a speed trap. Tell their players to play aggressive and violent then fine them when they do. Who wants to lose 10 grand? I don't care how much you make, nobody wants to lose that kind of money. Mike Daniels let up on a qb and it appears to me at least that Clinton Dix isn't playing nearly as aggressive as he did his first two years. I feel bad for some of these players like a Tony Brown who made a great play, makes very little money compared to most players but his natural DNA took over for making a great play and he boasted. It happens. It's hard to ask a defensive player to tone things down in the heat of the moment. Some of these fines are absolutely ridiculous. I'd like to know what the NFL gets back in terms of fines from these players.

I agree. If that is taunting, not much isn’t. Again, the NFL is killing the game by taking every rule to its extreme (albeit seemingly inconsistently).
Egregious face mask pulling is one thing, but that is getting mixed in with incidental contact. Of the NFL is really that worried, ban the bars and force shields. As for Brown’s penalty, will a fist pump soon follow.
I have to say that the Riveron reign as head of officiating is becoming a poster child for what happens when rules are enforced without context or discretion. The NFL needs to move on.
This is harming not helping the drive to eradicate truly dangerous behavior and also impacting the game with penalties that tilt the field as well.

From what I understand if a ref makes two horrible calls two weeks in a row, Goodell confiscates his whistle for an entire week.

The Raiders veteran Jared Cook is having an outstanding year, on pace to smash previous bests in receiving yards and touchdowns. He is on pace for 1,248 yards and six touchdowns, which would be an outstanding year for any tight end.
I mean how many player’s have the player's passed on or didn't keep. And, in turn drafted bad players.

In fairness, wasn't it monkey-business on the part of Cook's agent that stalled things and saw the packers jump at Bennett - else he'd be a packer.
That catch that Cook took from Rodgers in the play-off game against Dallas 2 seasons ago to seal that game was when he convinced me that he could be a difference maker.

i guess someone with power in the league, or a group, is getting off on somewhat arbitrary punishments, especially to Packers, this year. i keep being a fan; however, i will be following the other pro leagues currently in development in the hopes that the owners of the new league(s) will have a better culture than the authoritarian NFL.

I guess I've already started to "EFF the NFL". I've always been one to watch EVERY Pro Football game I could. I was happy when Thursdays became a regular night in the NFL to go with Sundays and Mondays.
This season seems to be completely different. I haven't watched a Monday Night game yet, at least more than a few plays. I watched Sunday night football week one when the Packers were on and the Thursday night game between the Rams and Queens.
I know part of it is the Packers themselves have become almost unwatchable but so has the product on the field. Congrats to the NFL for actually pushing a lifelong fan away.

Face it the NFL is a dying whale, they are caught in a net of their own making, and it's destroying the final product, the game is nothing to what it once was, they flag everything when it's convient, and look the other way when it's not. It's already rapidly becoimg to late, before long 1/2 empty stadiums, and games that get out veiwed by a re-run will become the norm, I listen on the radio now often, just due to how unwatchable the game has already become, I'm hoping they can rescue this game, but the magic 8 ball says, Unlikely!

I'm with you Big Moe. The NFL is a sterile PC product influenced not by the game but by the refs, too many rules and catering to small groups of people with social justice issues. They have caved to them instead of their fans and now their product is caving in on them. The Packers big Disney park they are building will be a disaster once GB starts playing like it's 1976 again and they will believe me.
The old Chi/GB rivalries were started because of the violence and dirty tactics both teams would try on each other. That created major fan interest and the hatred grew. That was the fun part. Hating the other team and wanting your team to win so bad. The NFL took that part away because now the players get fined too easily and everybody loves each other. The days of Charles Martin, Ken Stills, Jim McMahon, Dan Hampton calling us cheese dicks are over. That's what I miss the most. Those were fun times even though we sucked. It's also why my favorite game of all time was 1989 Majik to Sharpe beating the Bears. Magical moments!! No more!!

Packer Greg Says Are you kidding a fine for Tony Brown for looking at the receiver too long after he broke up the play and celebrating a good play. I'm sure non of this hurt the receiver but it might have hurt his feelings.

Duneslick, as you know the NFL has come out strong on "bullying" and hurt feelings are the result of bullying. Tony Brown was a big bad bully on that play and deserves a big bad fine. At least I'm sure the liberal left is happy and that makes the NFL very happy since they cater to all their demands. They love to cater groups who DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT FOOTBALL!!

I agree. Even now, the Titletown District feels a little like a ghost town most of the time. I liked it much better when the dinky houses with real families, and ordinary businesses surrounded the stadium. The gentrification of the area feels phony and contrived to me. Lambeau Field is losing the very quality that set it apart from other stadiums—being part of a real neighborhood.
