The Turk visits the Green Bay Packers

The Turk visits the Green Bay Packers

It. Is Time.

Rumour has it The Turk has been spotted lurking outside Lambeau Field this morning, looking for a way to get past the gates and do his dirty business. He'll be collecting playbooks (actually it's ipads now, right?) and arranging Uber rides for players back to their hotels or apartments.

We will be listing the roster cuts here as they happen, so keep checking back with us.

First known cut, according to Rob Demovsky is CB Ryan White.

Safety Jen Fanor has been cut, accoring to Tom Silverstein. Possible Practice Squad addition.

OL Matt Rotheram has been cut accoring to Tom Silversten. He's a definite Practice Squad add if not claimed by another team.

TE Justin Perillo has been cut according to Rob Demovsky, and Packers are only keeping 3 TEs. Perillo just doesn't fit the mold/body type of the modern-day NFL TE.

Ol Andy Phillips has been cut according to Wes Hodkiewicz.

RB Rajon Neal has been cut according to Bill Huber of Packer Report. No one saw this one coming.

TE Mitchell Henry has been cut by the Packers according to Wes Hodkiewicz.

OL Garth Gerhart has been cut according to Tom SIlverstein. Packers to go with 8 or 9 OL. This is necessary as they don't have a true backup OT on the roster.

ILB Joe Thomas has been cut according to Wes Hodkiewicz.

OT Jeremy Vujnovich has been cut according to Tom Silverstein. With the lack of a true backup OT on tis team. he has to be a major candidate for PS.

WR Ed Williams has been cut, according to Wes Hodkiewicz, but could return on the PS.

ILB Carl Bradford has been cut by the Packers according to Rob Demovsky.

LB James Vaughters has been cut according to Michael Cohen.

DL Khyri Thornton has been cut according to Rob Demovsky

WR Larry Pinkard has ween waived injured according to Wes Hodkiewicz. Same injury as Cobb. Could return later in year.

DL Christian Ringo has been cut according to Michael Cohen. Sure to be added to the practice squad IMO.

WR Jared Abbrederis has been cut according to Tom Silverstein and the Packers hope to add him to the PS.

RB John Crockett has been cut according to Tom Silverstein

LB Jermauria Rasco was waived/injured according to Wes Hodkiewicz.

CB Tay Glover-Wright was cut, according to

And of course, Datone Jones and Letroy Guion are suspended and don't count towards the roster.

"Jersey Al" Bracco is the Editor-In-Chief, part owner and wearer of many hats for and He is also a recovering Mason Crosby truther.

Cheesestradamus's picture

The Packers released CB Ryan White, per a source.

KenEllis's picture

Watching Shawn Slocum perform his "magic" coaching Arizona State's special teams unit today, reminds me that the most important cut was made many months ago.

DrealynWilliams's picture

What did you expect?

Ibleedgreenmore's picture

I would be shocked if Gunter or Rajon Neal were cut, maybe Gaston or well you get it. It is very close to call so many are right on that border it is to close to call.

Allan Murphy's picture

Rajon Neal was cut wth bro???

Cheesestradamus's picture

Matt Rotheram and Jean Fanor released.

sonomaca's picture

The Giants cut James Jones.

lambeau66's picture

Ted should pick him up.

Dan Stodola's picture

I Prefer moving forward, I guess you like going backwards.

Idiot Fan's picture

I prefer moving forward too, but it's not the worst idea in the world to bring in another solid veteran presence for that group. I don't think JA is ready to contribute much this year. He's barely had any practice time. Give him a year on the PS. I doubt anyone would pick him up, given his injury history and lack of tape.

Dan Stodola's picture

PS is the perfect place for Abbrederis. Been sayin that for a long time.

White has potential, Jones doesn't have any. He's last years news. Jones averaged less than 10 yds/rec last year, White not a lot more, but he can get better Jones will only get worse.

Nick Perry's picture

Maybe Dan, but he better not stop on a route like he did Thursday on Tolzien, Rodgers would see to it he'd NEVER saw the ball again. I'm not a huge Miles White fan but he earned his spot.

Dan Stodola's picture

Absolutely right about stopping on a route. He earned the roster spot for now, but he is on thin ice. If he has any of those w/ Rodgers he will never look at him. Either way, I won't be surprised if someone, possibly Abbrederis, replaces him at some point later in the year.

croatpackfan's picture

If he was not good for Raiders and for Giants, why everybody thinks he would be good for Packers... Are you really consider Raiders and Giants better teams than Packers? And do not give the argument of knowing the system. He was out of the system for 2 years now!

PaulRosik's picture

Never a fan. He is a career number 4 receiver who has shown since he has left the Pack that he can not handle the load as a go to guy.

Irish_Cheesehead's picture

He would be a good pick up. A lot of unproven WRs on the roster.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

Kennard Backman has been informed that he has made the 53 per Demovsky. No surprise.

Allan Murphy's picture

He has strong hands wow .

Cheesestradamus's picture

Latest Cuts
OL Matt Rotheram
S/CB Ryan White
S Jean Fanor
TE Justin Perillo
RB Rajion Neal
OL Andy Phillips

Ibleedgreenmore's picture

Neal flat out shocks me, will he make it to the practice squad.

Dan Stodola's picture

Probably 50/50 or better chance IMO he does make it to the Packers PS.

Allan Murphy's picture

Cheese i can't belive they cut Rajion Neal i'm shocked by that one you too ?

Tommyboy's picture

Crockett baby!!!!!!

sonomaca's picture

If you can't pass block, you can't play RB for Packers. I guess Crockett was the best of the bunch in that regard.

Dan Stodola's picture

Said all along 2 RB and 2 FB. I even started to think Neal miht make it, but all 3 RB are PS candidates. Love to get Neal on PS. Packers might keep 2 RB on the PS.

Ibleedgreenmore's picture

They had to cut somewhere, it must be the worst of times for the coach and TT but its why they get paid the big bucks.

johngalt's picture

Anyone else think Neal>Starks?

DrealynWilliams's picture

Hell no. Before the cut and after .

porupack's picture

Yes, I think Neal was better, and his style contrasts with Lacy, so I thought he would actually get more yards per run than Starks when alternating in for Lacy. I'm really surprised and a bit disappointed.

Idiot Fan's picture

Not me. I like Neal, but I'm on Team Starks.

DrealynWilliams's picture

Neal might have better hands.

But that's it.

DrealynWilliams's picture

No more surprise cuts.

DrealynWilliams's picture

Wait...I take that back if James Jones is available.

Does TT cut potential for a James Jones that might not be anything like the Packers James Jones?

sonomaca's picture

Got to ask why the Giants cut Jones. Maybe he can't play anymore.

WKUPackFan's picture

JJ is long of tooth, however, NY has Beckham, Randle, Cruz, and Corey Washington. THey probably wanted to go younger with the 5th WR spot.

Flow49's picture

Bring Jones in for a workout at least if he still has even if he is 3/4 of his old self. I think he'd be worth it. We have plenty of potential in Janis and white that will make the team, cutting Aberderis would be worth the report that JJ and rodgers already have on a wr corps lacking in that area with Jordy gone. On top of that the one position TT has zero problems filling is that wr spot. This team has talent without Aberderis lets bring in leadership and winning intangibles. I think JJ has a pretty decent amount left in the tank. Just my humble opinion.

BELIEVER's picture

I would think not, what I remember is Jones dropping the ball in playoff game against 49,ers at Lambeau. That was the last time he played for G.B. Good regular season but chocks in playoffs. He has lost a step, never was burner.

Nick Perry's picture

Jones is good near the goal line. It wasn't long ago he caught 14 TD in the regular season for the Packers. What's important by the goal line when Rodgers starts to buy time is knowing WHAT Rodgers is thinking. Jones knows what Rodgers is thinking.

Ibleedgreenmore's picture

Heck they could shock us with another cut but the rest should be pretty easy. They are loaded this year, I mean White could just could get cut stranger things have already happened.

WKUPackFan's picture

If Neal was cut to keep a spot for Lane Taylor I will be disappointed. Nothing against Taylor, just think there is more upside with Neal.

Kyale Rollins's picture

It would actually make sense because of all the injuries on our kine this year and he played really well throughout the preseason. Number one priority is protecting A Rodgers.

Jersey Al's picture

Why are you putting those two together? Taylor was always going to be kept as the #1 backup at guard.

WKUPackFan's picture

Because whether Neal is/was kept may depend on the entire 53 roster configuration, not just the RB/FB situation. For example, in different years the Packers have kept between 7-9 OL at cut down. That number will obviously impact others.

I said I had nothing against Taylor, there was no need to attack me. Some of your choices were questionable, but I did not comment on those, and would never in a way that questioned your intelligence. Please save your snarkiness for some of these guys that deserve it, and thanks for enforcing the New Jersey stereotype.

Dan Stodola's picture

I didn't get the impression he attacked you.

WKUPackFan's picture

Why are you putting those two together? = You don't know what you're talking about.

I'm pretty sure he understood what I meant before I explained it. It's his blog. He can be as rude as he wants to be.

Dan Stodola's picture

I understood what you and he meant. Either way I didn't get the impression he attacked you.

But whatever. Have a nice day.

bill from jersey pkfn12n4's picture

we know where you live,
go paaack go

BELIEVER's picture

lighten up

Allan Murphy's picture

Al ? With Cobb and Pinkard have same injury should Packers pick up James Jones hoo was just cut from the Gaints ?

marpag1's picture

Neal had zero upside as a guard.

Oppy's picture

^^^Comment of the week^^^

4thand1's picture

Gotta have big men.

Djschuett's picture

JJ wasn't as good with raiders or Giants but what Packer WR has left for more money elsewhere or been cut and done as well as with Rodgers/Favre? Javon Walker? Jennings? J Jones? Robert Ferguson? Boykin?

Spock's picture

ILB Joe Thomas cut according to GB Gazette

Horse's picture

Giants have $665k in cap space. That could have figured into cutting JJ.

gbpackerowner's picture

Didn't James Jones burn some bridges on his way out? Who needs that. Stick with the younger guys!

zeke's picture

If by James Jones you mean Greg Jennings, then yes.

DrealynWilliams's picture

Zeke, I just died from laughter.

vj_ostrowski's picture

James Jones was like the only one that DIDN'T

wimiller's picture

Jones is a class act. he burned no bridges.

4thand1's picture

James Jones couldn't have handled his departure any better. Total class act.

barutanseijin's picture

Bradford gone.

DrealynWilliams's picture

Where's tWins at?

egbertsouse's picture

Neal was a shocker. Thought he was a lock.

On the positive side, it's being reported that Kelly cut Tim Tebow. Couldn't stand another year of Tebow hype.

vj_ostrowski's picture

Pun intended.

DrealynWilliams's picture

Thorton got the boot. No shocker there. That was mighty quick though. He must have not showed the coaches ANYTHING.

Oppy's picture

Like everyone else, Raijon Neal cut caught me off guard.
Wow. He's going to get picked up somewhere, I'd think.

Oppy's picture

Edited 'cuz I had a stupid duplicate post thingy happen. Sorry.

Oppy's picture

I made a out-of-left-field prediction just before preseason that Backman makes the team, gets limited reps early, but ends up running away with the starting TE job towards the end of the season.

I'm happy to hear he made the cut, but now I'm thinking he may get bumped to PS as soon as Quarless comes back from suspension. Lol.

Dan Stodola's picture

I don't believe Quarless has a suspension as of now. The NFL apparently is waiting for his case to be settled which could be next offseason, who knows. My guess is he may not even get a suspension. Its a misdemeanor after all.

Good call on Backman tho I don't see him starting this year. Maybe next or after that.

PETER MAIZ's picture

They'll keep checking Backman during the season. I think they kept him because of the red zone issues.

Gman1976's picture

It's a bitter sweet day to see some guys have their dreams come true while others see their dreams die. At least they are young enough to dream again.

PETER MAIZ's picture

I never liked the Thornton and Bradford drafts even way back in 2014. Somehow these two were recruited, TT needed a better scout that year. With respect for all the Wisconsinites out there, so should Abbey. He's not strong enough for the NFL. If Ted keeps him, it will be to appease the fan base, a PR move.

4thand1's picture

TT will NEVER try to appease the fan base. If he did, Capers would be gone, Favre would still be playing, and we'd be in cap hell with a bunch of high priced FA's.

PETER MAIZ's picture

He played against the Saints. That's pretty good considering he practiced for about 3 minutes. Show me a player that puts in 5 minutes practice time (during the preseason ) and I'll show you a player that won't play the last preseason game.

Oppy's picture

You really think the Packers put Abbrederis on the field to make Packers fans happy?

No. Just no.

Dan Stodola's picture

Abbrederis released. Probably headed to the PS.

Bedrock's picture

Pretty safe release as there is little tape on him. Unless some team liked him two drafts ago and thinks he improved with his injuries...

This is ideal for Abby since he knows the offense and can provide the team some instant help.

DrealynWilliams's picture

Correct me if I'm wrong, but players on Practice Teams can decline joining other teams roster, right??

NewNikeShoes's picture

Nope, you're correct.
They can also choose to go to another team as well.
They're basically like FAs with a salary to a team.

Mojo's picture

Right the PS guys can do whatever they want. However, if someone is claimed on waivers before the afternoon deadline tomorrow they don't have a choice unless they retire or something. The team acquiring has to put them on their 53, so it doesn't happen a ton.

So if you have a guy you want on your PS and you feel he wants to stay the real anxiety is in clearing waivers.

DrealynWilliams's picture

OK, cool. I'm very confident our cuts will make it past waivers. Wouldn't be surprised if a team with no clear #2 or #3 took a chance with Neal though.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

Spot on explanation. Young players are waived and have to pass through waivers. If claimed that team has to put them on the 53, but the team can subsequently waive the player. If young players are not claimed, they then become FAs and can sign with any team, either to the 53 or to their PS.

Vested veterans are released, and don't pass through (aren't subject to) waivers: instead they immediately become FAs. A vested veteran means a player with more than 4 accrued seasons.

Icebowler's picture

How many more to go?

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

3 I think. Candidates:

Glover Wright
? Surprise

There was a report that GB is keeping 9 OL. If so, and if they are keeping Harris as reported, then Rasco, Crockett and a CB?

Dan Stodola's picture

By my count 5 after Abbrederis. Assuming they were at 75 to start, counted to 58.

Mojo's picture

TT tried to get cute picking Thornton so early. I wasn't so much against the pick, but thought at the time Ted should have picked much later. At least he's willing to cut his losses. Totally missed on that one. And good that they let Bradford go too.

Abby simply didn't have enough stats to determine anything about his worthiness to make the roster. It'll being interesting to see if any other team takes a flyer on him. The injuries are going to keep him off most teams radar.

Sounds like they took Harris over Neal. I have no problem with it if they feel Harris has more pop. It's been said the preseason games are only part of the picture. We probably didn't see what the coaches say in practice.

It'll be interesting to see what the PS looks like. Even if your favorite makes it, it doesn't guarantee they'll be around for long. The PS at the start rarely resembles the PS and the end.

As far as James Jones, I'm not sure what to do there. If he still has something he could be a very good one year rent-a-player. But he could still end up being around mid-season if no one else shows interest. Might be best if the Pack go that route.

Goodbye Garth. Try hard guy who the coaches likes, but got to improving the roster.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

Per, Crockett, Glover Wright cut and Rasco waived injured. All done given the 2 suspensions. PS tomorrow.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

3 QBs
3 RBs
3 TEs
2 FBs
9 OL
5 WRs

5 DL
5 OLBs
7 CBs
4 Ss
3 specialists

Nick Perry's picture

3 RB's? You mean they really kept Harris over Neal??

NewNikeShoes's picture

And Crockett. SMH, makes no sense.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

I'd say Neal was the most complete back and most likely to be able to help this year. Crockett would be 2nd.

I had Harris rated as the best pure runner of the 3, and it was not really close. Will Harris improve his receiving and pass pro? No idea.

Nick Perry's picture

I think the fumble Neal had against Saints didn't help either. Fumbles will put you in McCarthy's doghouse quicker than anything.

Oppy's picture

If the packers had two or three consecutive drafts without major whiffs on Defensive Linemen, it would really make a huge difference for the team.

To be honest, I don't think our DL is all that bad, but it should be so much better. So many failed picks.

4thand1's picture

I think they got away from BOP a couple of times and reached. It bit em in the ass.

4thand1's picture

Louis Nix III was cut by Houston. I remember a lot of people wanted GB to draft him.

J0hn Denver's Gavel's picture

NewNikeShoes's picture

Eh, I still kinda do. Give him a PS spot if we can, seems talented. The last DT, Gaston, we picked up and stashed worked out fine.

Amanofthenorth's picture

How to you keep getting quality UDFA's ? Keep having them make the team. That may have been Harris' advantage over Neal.
