The Turk visits the Green Bay Packers

It. Is Time.

Rumour has it The Turk has been spotted lurking outside Lambeau Field this morning, looking for a way to get past the gates and do his dirty business. He'll be collecting playbooks (actually it's ipads now, right?) and arranging Uber rides for players back to their hotels or apartments.

We will be listing the roster cuts here as they happen, so keep checking back with us.

First known cut, according to Rob Demovsky is CB Ryan White.

Safety Jen Fanor has been cut, accoring to Tom Silverstein. Possible Practice Squad addition.

OL Matt Rotheram has been cut accoring to Tom Silversten. He's a definite Practice Squad add if not claimed by another team.

TE Justin Perillo has been cut according to Rob Demovsky, and Packers are only keeping 3 TEs. Perillo just doesn't fit the mold/body type of the modern-day NFL TE.

Ol Andy Phillips has been cut according to Wes Hodkiewicz.

RB Rajon Neal has been cut according to Bill Huber of Packer Report. No one saw this one coming.

TE Mitchell Henry has been cut by the Packers according to Wes Hodkiewicz.

OL Garth Gerhart has been cut according to Tom SIlverstein. Packers to go with 8 or 9 OL. This is necessary as they don't have a true backup OT on the roster.

ILB Joe Thomas has been cut according to Wes Hodkiewicz.

OT Jeremy Vujnovich has been cut according to Tom Silverstein. With the lack of a true backup OT on tis team. he has to be a major candidate for PS.

WR Ed Williams has been cut, according to Wes Hodkiewicz, but could return on the PS.

ILB Carl Bradford has been cut by the Packers according to Rob Demovsky.

LB James Vaughters has been cut according to Michael Cohen.

DL Khyri Thornton has been cut according to Rob Demovsky

WR Larry Pinkard has ween waived injured according to Wes Hodkiewicz. Same injury as Cobb. Could return later in year.

DL Christian Ringo has been cut according to Michael Cohen. Sure to be added to the practice squad IMO.

WR Jared Abbrederis has been cut according to Tom Silverstein and the Packers hope to add him to the PS.

RB John Crockett has been cut according to Tom Silverstein

LB Jermauria Rasco was waived/injured according to Wes Hodkiewicz.

CB Tay Glover-Wright was cut, according to Packers.com.

And of course, Datone Jones and Letroy Guion are suspended and don't count towards the roster.

I prefer moving forward too, but it's not the worst idea in the world to bring in another solid veteran presence for that group. I don't think JA is ready to contribute much this year. He's barely had any practice time. Give him a year on the PS. I doubt anyone would pick him up, given his injury history and lack of tape.

PS is the perfect place for Abbrederis. Been sayin that for a long time.

White has potential, Jones doesn't have any. He's last years news. Jones averaged less than 10 yds/rec last year, White not a lot more, but he can get better Jones will only get worse.

Maybe Dan, but he better not stop on a route like he did Thursday on Tolzien, Rodgers would see to it he'd NEVER saw the ball again. I'm not a huge Miles White fan but he earned his spot.

Absolutely right about stopping on a route. He earned the roster spot for now, but he is on thin ice. If he has any of those w/ Rodgers he will never look at him. Either way, I won't be surprised if someone, possibly Abbrederis, replaces him at some point later in the year.

If he was not good for Raiders and for Giants, why everybody thinks he would be good for Packers... Are you really consider Raiders and Giants better teams than Packers? And do not give the argument of knowing the system. He was out of the system for 2 years now!

Bring Jones in for a workout at least if he still has even if he is 3/4 of his old self. I think he'd be worth it. We have plenty of potential in Janis and white that will make the team, cutting Aberderis would be worth the report that JJ and rodgers already have on a wr corps lacking in that area with Jordy gone. On top of that the one position TT has zero problems filling is that wr spot. This team has talent without Aberderis lets bring in leadership and winning intangibles. I think JJ has a pretty decent amount left in the tank. Just my humble opinion.

Jones is good near the goal line. It wasn't long ago he caught 14 TD in the regular season for the Packers. What's important by the goal line when Rodgers starts to buy time is knowing WHAT Rodgers is thinking. Jones knows what Rodgers is thinking.

Because whether Neal is/was kept may depend on the entire 53 roster configuration, not just the RB/FB situation. For example, in different years the Packers have kept between 7-9 OL at cut down. That number will obviously impact others.

I said I had nothing against Taylor, there was no need to attack me. Some of your choices were questionable, but I did not comment on those, and would never in a way that questioned your intelligence. Please save your snarkiness for some of these guys that deserve it, and thanks for enforcing the New Jersey stereotype.

I made a out-of-left-field prediction just before preseason that Backman makes the team, gets limited reps early, but ends up running away with the starting TE job towards the end of the season.

I'm happy to hear he made the cut, but now I'm thinking he may get bumped to PS as soon as Quarless comes back from suspension. Lol.

I don't believe Quarless has a suspension as of now. The NFL apparently is waiting for his case to be settled which could be next offseason, who knows. My guess is he may not even get a suspension. Its a misdemeanor after all.

Good call on Backman tho I don't see him starting this year. Maybe next or after that.

I never liked the Thornton and Bradford drafts even way back in 2014. Somehow these two were recruited, TT needed a better scout that year. With respect for all the Wisconsinites out there, so should Abbey. He's not strong enough for the NFL. If Ted keeps him, it will be to appease the fan base, a PR move.

Right the PS guys can do whatever they want. However, if someone is claimed on waivers before the afternoon deadline tomorrow they don't have a choice unless they retire or something. The team acquiring has to put them on their 53, so it doesn't happen a ton.

So if you have a guy you want on your PS and you feel he wants to stay the real anxiety is in clearing waivers.

September 06, 2015 at 01:47 am

Spot on explanation. Young players are waived and have to pass through waivers. If claimed that team has to put them on the 53, but the team can subsequently waive the player. If young players are not claimed, they then become FAs and can sign with any team, either to the 53 or to their PS.

Vested veterans are released, and don't pass through (aren't subject to) waivers: instead they immediately become FAs. A vested veteran means a player with more than 4 accrued seasons.

TT tried to get cute picking Thornton so early. I wasn't so much against the pick, but thought at the time Ted should have picked much later. At least he's willing to cut his losses. Totally missed on that one. And good that they let Bradford go too.

Abby simply didn't have enough stats to determine anything about his worthiness to make the roster. It'll being interesting to see if any other team takes a flyer on him. The injuries are going to keep him off most teams radar.

Sounds like they took Harris over Neal. I have no problem with it if they feel Harris has more pop. It's been said the preseason games are only part of the picture. We probably didn't see what the coaches say in practice.

It'll be interesting to see what the PS looks like. Even if your favorite makes it, it doesn't guarantee they'll be around for long. The PS at the start rarely resembles the PS and the end.

As far as James Jones, I'm not sure what to do there. If he still has something he could be a very good one year rent-a-player. But he could still end up being around mid-season if no one else shows interest. Might be best if the Pack go that route.

Goodbye Garth. Try hard guy who the coaches likes, but got to improving the roster.

If the packers had two or three consecutive drafts without major whiffs on Defensive Linemen, it would really make a huge difference for the team.

Louis Nix III was cut by Houston. I remember a lot of people wanted GB to draft him.

How to you keep getting quality UDFA's ? Keep having them make the team. That may have been Harris' advantage over Neal.
