Thompson Should Look At Peterson

Thompson Should Look At Peterson

Word out of Jacksonville today is that a bevy of Jaguar players, four of them starters, will be allowed to enter free agency next month. The most interesting name on the list is that of middle linebacker Mike Peterson. Ted Thompson would do well to take a look at how Peterson might fit with his stable of linebackers. Yes, Peterson was benched earlier in the year when he had a confrontation with Jaguar Head Coach Jack Del Rio, but I'm willing to bet that had more to do with Del Rio's demeanor than Peterson's. And I also think Peterson would bring a measure of toughness and a bit of 'nasty' to a position group that is desperately lacking both, not to mention a veteran presence that would fit well with the rest of the team. All of that, and I bet the Packers could get him at a Packer-friendly rate. The cynic with a good memory might see shades of the Hardy Nickerson signing, but I can assure you, Peterson can still play.

This is the sort of player that Thompson should be looking at. Yes Albert Haynesworth is a great pipe dream. But in reality, there will be many opportunities to improve the team that won't break the Packers' cap or locker room. I fully expect the first week of free agency to be as dull this year as the last two have been.

would you then bench our best (and "nastiest") linebacker, nick barnett? or would you move one of them?

I would move Barnett outside in the 4-3. In a 3-4 he would share the middle with Peterson.

If he played like he did prior to getting hurt, I'd bench him.

Brutal to watch.

Franklin, completely agree. There was something 'wrong' with Barnett this year. No idea what it could have been, but he was definitely not the player we all saw in 2007. One thing is for sure - the competition at linebacker will be a highlight of training camp next summer.

I`m all for Mike Peterson as well. The whole Del Rio fiasco does not bother me. I blame that on Del-Rio being a former Vi-Queen. Think about it how many years did the Pack have to deal with that jerk on the opposite side of the ball running his mouth the entire game? I never liked that guy. Peterson is a beast bring him in!

Speaking of LBs, have we mentioned Tracy White earning playoff checks with the Eagles?

I guess Philly knows a good Special Teams guy when they see one.

As far as Haynesworth, pursue until the Titans announce a deal. If something happens be in line. I'm glad Ron Wolf had his "pipedreams".

A good linebacker should definetely be on the agenda. If you look next to the word chaos you'll see Del Rio's picuture.

From what I heard, Barnett was hurt going into the Regular Season and never got healthy before he was finally put on IR. It would explain a few things. Thought they were going to move Nick once before(?)

Question: Would Tracy White follow if we get lucky enough to grab McDermott for DC?

What's the price tag for Peterson, anyway?
