The Sunday Morning Packers Gameday Preview

Good Morning Packer Nation!!!! It's opening day for your 13 time world champion Green Bay Packers!

Good Morning, Packer Nation! The 2020 NFL season is finally here and although it will be one of the strangest seasons in the history of the league, our Green Bay Packers are still kicking the season off at U.S Bank Stadium at high noon central time, against the much hated, rarely celebrated, purple team from Minnesota. However, I must say, the Vikings are one of the NFL’s model franchises for what social distancing is supposed to look like in 2020, as they have been maintaining a healthy distance from the Lombardi Trophy since its inception.

In this week’s edition of “The Sunday Morning Packers Gameday Preview” I will share my thoughts on how I see the game against the hated Vikings playing out, three burning questions that will determine the outcome of the game, daily and weekly fantasy options for week 1, and my prop pets and predictions for week 1.  All that is left to do is just sit back, relax, and enjoy your morning cup of joe, Bloody Mary, or drink of choice as we get ready to kick off the NFL season.

What to Expect in Week 1:

With a very different offseason and training camp, players were not able to incorporate many of the normal drills, practices, and routines into their schedules which leads me to believe there will be plenty of sloppy football on display early on.  Although it is annoying and will no doubt drive some of us crazy, it should lead to an entertaining back and forth kind of game.

I am expecting Aaron Rodgers to test the Vikings corners early on because I think early success through the air will be crucial to Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams doing their thing on the ground.  I also expect to see both offensive lines get tested because of a lack of contact drills during the offseason which means Rodgers mobility will be key to the Packers offense being able to function the way it needs to. (Mobility, protection, and quick throws lead to success in the passing game which will ultimately lead to the Packers dominating the ground game and controlling the tempo of the game in the second half).

On defense, the Packers are going to have their hands full with Dalvin Cook, Kyle Rudolph, Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson.  Cook has to be licking his chops against the Packers defense after a season that saw them fail to stop the run and protect the middle of the field (which has always been their Achilles heel in my opinion). Rudolph, Thielen, and Jefferson are all players who can be equally as big of a threat as Cook because they all can wreak havoc inside and expose the Packers Achilles heel.

Three Burning Questions That Will Determine the Outcome of This Week's Game:

  1. Can the Packers protect Rodgers and open up running lanes for Jones, Williams, and Dillon?
  2. Can the front seven force Cousins into multiple turnovers?
  3. Can Kirksey change the narrative of the Packers run defense?

Fantasy Options to Play/Sit from Packers vs. Vikings (Obviously play Dalvin Cook, Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Jones in standard leagues)

  • Sit Kirk Cousins- I see a lot of rushed throws and the potential for multiple interceptions. In order to win, the Vikings will have to ride Dalvin Cook for 30+ carries.
  •  Invest in Aaron Jones and Dalvin Cook in daily fantasy leagues (like Fan Duel, Draft Kings, etc.)
  • Justin Jefferson, MVS, and Allen Lazard could have big performances and cash in on a few deep balls. (Could be bargains in deep fantasy leagues or daily fantasy).

This week’s picks (My prediction for Packers Vs. Vikings, Parlays, and Prop bets)

  • I think the Packers find a way to protect Rodgers and the offense rolls; give me the Packers 28-20 over the Vikings.
  • My anytime touchdown parlay: Aaron Jones, Dalvin Cook, and Kyle Rudolph (I think Aaron Jones and Dalvin Cook are locks).
  • Other player props: I like Allen Lazard to find the endzone which is why I am taking him at +330 to score a touchdown.  Additionally, his receiving yards over/under is 38.5 which I am hammering as well. (If you like Lazard in this game, I would suggest a same game parlay of over 38.5 receiving yards and an anytime touchdown scorer).
  • Picking against the spread: Give me the Packers at +2.5 (although realistically, I’d feel much safer buying the point in a teaser at +3.5 to cover my ass.)
  • Survivor Pool Pick of the Day: The Eagles; The only thing that scares me about the Washington Football Team is their front seven and as long as Philly can moderately protect Wentz, they should be able to pull away late.
  • $5 Five Team Parlay: Eagles, Colts, Bills, Ravens, and Seahawks.
  • Upset Pick: I like Denver over Tennessee at Mile High.  Drew Lock is an up and coming player who I expect to really come into his own this year.

I hope you all enjoyed this first edition of the Sunday Morning Packers Gameday Preview; happy opening weekend everyone!

I'm expecting to see offenses throw a lot to try and take advantage of defensive confusion and defenses to blitz to take advantage of offensive confusion.

Hopefully that means it's a good day for "the illusion of complexity".

Download Yahoo Sports app for Android on Playstore, not sure if they will have all live games but it looks like they will have this 1st Packer game streaming live for free.

Google search WTMJ and simply click "listen live." Then listen to the radio call with Wayne Larrivee and Larry McCarren. They do a great job!

I was watching Khrys Barnes college tape and I found him to be be a very sure tackler. He is definitely limited athleticly at the NFL level. In the first game of the season last year UCLA played Cincinnati and he covered Deguara a few times and Degaura won that match-up.
He does a good job of fitting gaps in the run blitz, diagnosing plays and is a sure tackler.....That is really what the Packers look for at ILB, not surprised he was placed on the 53.....

I think--if he's active--it's for special teams. Suspect he's insurance in case Burks doesn't hold up and they start to dent the ILB depth chart.

I hope the League or Murphy invested in a decibel meter. We all know the Vikings are gonna cheat. It’s just a matter of how and when.

I assume the Vikings will have a 3rd grader running the horn like always.
