I read faster than I listen. And I like to look and reflect on the written word. However, I also speak faster than I write so I understand why a spoken recap and remarks are done. Besides, there are inflections in tone that can communicate something better than the written word alone so I understand the trend to do so. But for me I still prefer the written word.
Good- the win of course. Our running game picked up that’s good. Our DBs held their receivers to limited catches. And the defense did well as a whole. Adams is a stud again.
Bad- again only one quarter of offense for our team. Contested balls that we did not come up with.
Ugly- Cooks long run, strange officiating, the four down in the red zone boo boo.

I hate to say this, but Graham should’ve been let go, despite the money issues. So non productive. Probably a decent guy and good locker room veteran, but on the field I don’t see anything productive. I realize at a time he was awesome, but time has caught up to him. The spot could go to another young talented player with a high upside. Sorry Jimmy. Prove me wrong. Go Pack!!

Good.........ball snapped 5-15 seconds on the play clock.....during first 3 touchdowns

Bad........ball snapped at last second

Ugly........Rogers hard counts and our players move early

When Rogers study’s the defense, we have one guy on our side with an advantage(Rogers)....unfortunately there art 11 guys on the other side with extra time to plan their attack.

Review the play clock and see the results for yourself. It appears to me that our offense is a lot better when the ball is snapped with 5 or more seconds remaining.

I see no problem with letting time run off the clock when playing with a lead. Not only does it leave the opponent less time to work with, it gives the D more time to rest. It doesn't matter when the ball is snapped, players still have to execute and do their jobs. What's the point of snapping the ball with 15 seconds left on the play clock to go 3 and out? That's 45 seconds of time the other team gets the ball to try and score and almost a minute less of rest time for the D. Get a 1st down and we've effectively taken a minute off the clock and given the D an additional minute worth of rest time and it just keeps adding up. Believe it or not there is some strategy involved.

Graham cannot block. Mercedes Lewis, can block and played great in sealing the edge of the line for our RBs. Get Sternberger healthy and team him with Lewis and Tonyan and the Pack can trade or release Graham.

The Good - Aaron Jones - 100+ yards
Defense, especially K . Clark, the Smiths and Kevin King
JK Scott

The Bad - Allison’s fumble and Cook’s TD run

The Ugly - 4th down run play on Viking 25 before halftime.
Take the FG and make it 24 - 7. I know MLF has confidence in the defense but in this era of the NFL you never have enough points no matter how good your defense is. One bad call by the officials like last season’s week 2 game and it’s all gone.

Jim Owczarski reported that the 4th down call was on AR because Rodgers actually thought they had the first with a fortunate spot and ran a hurry up play before the spot could be challenged. His judgement of the spot was waay off though. It was confirmed in post game interview with LaFluer.
LaFluer took responsibility though saying he needed to do a better job of letting AR know they wanted points on a FG there. He was asked if he could've burned a t.o. to prevent the 4th down play and LaFluer responded by saying "yeah in hindsight, probably". We all need to remember this is a learning process not just for the offense but also our first time HC.

I was 100% OK with going for it right there. I didn't know at the time AR was hurrying up because he thought it was a 1st - I just thought GB was going for a killshot. I'm all for keeping the foot on the gas, especially against strong division rivals. A play action roll out shot to Davante in the end zone right there would have been perfect and probably would have caught everyone off guard - the Vikes sold out for the run big time.

The good: The Packers Offensive Line. Aaron Jones got +100 yards off their performance & Rodgers had enough protection. Sometimes.

The bad: The pass rushers tackling. I saw pass rushers just go right by Cousins when it looked like a sure sack. Pressure without finishing gave him too many chances.

The ugly: No open receivers after the 1st quarter. Can't wait for the tape guys to tell us about what the problem was with receivers getting open. Their passing game just disappeared and I didn't hear Rodgers just didn't see open receivers.

The Good...

2-0 against 2 teams who MANY of you posters here thought the Packers would go 0-2 or 1-1 at best to start the year!

Packers Red-Zone offense and defense... Packers 3 of 3...Vikings 0-2... Cry all day about the offensive PI call Queen fans. PI is PI and it's about time you guys were actually called for it.

Packers first 3 drives against a very good defense.

Aaron Jones!!!!

The Bad... Raven Greene injury. You NEVER want to see a starter carted off.

The Packers continuing to run outside to the right side on 3rd or 4th and short. THANK GOD Rodgers threw the ball to pick up a first down before the 2-minute warning.

Not putting Aaron Jones and Jamal Williams together after the first drive or two...WTF MLF?

The Ugly...PURPLE! I Hate Purple!

Good

Aaron Jones in the run game, pass catching and pass blocking. Rodgers under-threw him on a wheel route that could have easily gone for 6. Jones is a game changer. His block on Harrison Smith protecting Rodgers was a thing of beauty. Too bad Rodgers didn’t trust it and the play went for not.

Defensive pressure on the QB and secondary. Cousins was paid $84 million guaranteed. He couldn’t complete 50% of his throws against this defense.

Turnovers. GB is finally creating them.

Bad

Interior OL. They have faced two of the most elite front seven in the league and have lost each matchup decidedly. They will have to get better over the next 15 weeks.

Aaron Rodgers refusal to trust the game plan after going up 21-0. He reverted to bad habits and often refused to give the play call a chance, held the ball too long and gave the offense no chance. When he was on time and trusting the play call the offense was on fire. I’m more and more convinced he has been the problem with this team’s offensive rhythm.

Ugly

Going for it on 4th and 1 in FG range. Had a chance to get points against an elite defense and instead turned it over on downs.

3rd and shorts. The inability to convert these was difficult to watch.

Geronimo fumble in/near the RZ. The game changed on that play.

2-0 despite it all, defense looks solid, offense showed slight progress and aside from Greene, remained relatively healthy. Still a very difficult several games ahead and they must get the offense cleaned up. This stretch will be the difference between playing for a Wild Card or home field advantage.

Cheers! Go Pack Go!

Good points, Gary. The comments on A-Rod are hard to pin down UNLESS you have access to the All-22. It definitely appears he is holding on too long. BUT without a view as to what it looks like downfield, it's hard to make that assertion. I definitely find myself with hands in the air: 'Get rid of the ball!' BUT, I just can't verifiably say it is egregious unless I see what he's seeing.

The one thing we can probably say:

Design plays and actions that encourage getting rid of the ball quicker. It's the Modern NFL. If you watch the Chiefs offense, you'd agree.

Bizarro,

Sadly, the all-22 doesn't prove anything at all.

There's almost 5 years of all-22 showing Rodgers ignoring open WRs underneath and holding the ball looking for the big play or his preferred target.

Most GB fans simply ignore it. Rodgers is on that pedestal- he's not coming off. It's a cardinal sin to suggest that Rodgers does have faults and could actually be even more successful if he would be held accountable.

What's the point of throwing a 4-5 yard under route on 3rd and long? If we had guys that could break tackles or make defenders miss - sure. Instead we have MVS take a quick screen and run backwards and across the field for a big loss or take that under route and fail to make an easy cut back for a 1st. I'd much rather see GB actually try for a 1st since the potential result outweighs an easy couple of yards that end in a punt anyway.

I agree it hard to see if guys were open or not on tv and the all 22 film will tell you more but even if there’s good coverage I would still like see him throw a ball in a safe spot and give his guys chance to make a tough catch. I know Rogers doesn’t like to throw picks but I’d just like to see him be a little bit more aggressive. Watching mahomes yesterday you saw when he had guy with single coverage down the field , he throws it and gives his guy a chance to make a good catch. The one throw to Robinson was good coverage but allowed his guy to make play and the pass to kelce he did have step but not terrible coverage just great throw. I feel the Rodgers is to worried about throwing picks and that makes him unwilling to throw passes like I just highlighted. He has the arm and accuracy to make those throws. He just needs to trust his guys and his abilities more cause on those downfield throws the receivers have the advantage. Corners are chasing and they can’t see the ball coming so imo those are pretty safe throws. They are usually either caught or incomplete so I like see more shots downfield this year. Rodgers trust the plays more, your abilities and your wrs abilities and let them make some plays for you.

How about those perfectly placed balls that were dropped by Adams and MVS or the push off by Graham that negated another? Kendricks made a hell of a play to break up a pass that likely goes for a huge gain to AJ - you could argue that one was slightly under thrown. It's not all on AR. He gave his WRs plenty of opportunities to make plays by throwing them open with the ball hitting both hands and they simply failed to make the catch.

Everyone saw the proof on screen, if you didn't watch the game I guess you just missed it. It wasn't hard to see Rodgers hitting his receivers underneath and backs in the flat, nor was it hard to see when he stopped doing so, began holding the ball and looking for big plays downfield.

I asked for proof that the game plan wasn't followed. Do you have the game plan? Do you have all the calls that were made in the huddle? It's idiotic to think that the defense won't adjust and the offense can still run the same plan and it will still work. Offense has to adjust also.

Going for it on 4th and 1 was a mistake. Rodgers thought he had a first down from where the ball was spotted. Instead, we turn the ball over on downs without getting any points out of it. That mistake could have been costly.

Why does Aaron Rodgers hold onto the ball until 1 or 2 seconds are left on the playclock before he calls for the snap? Is it to draw his own people offside or to let the other team know when the snap is going to occur so they are prepared for the play? Why not waste a timeout so we don't have any left at the end of the game? A delay of game penalty is no big deal, right?

Because he's trying to shorten the game. He wants to limit the number of possessions/plays (by both teams). He doesn't want the game to be a high scoring shootout. He's playing conservatively. Milking the clock.

It also gives the Packers' defense more time to rest on the sidelines because he knows the Packers' offense has a proven track record of 3 and outs in the second half.

That is not why he’s doing that he’s done this shit for years and it has nothing to do with trying to limit the possessions. He thinks he’s the smartest person in the world and that he’ll diagnose the defense audible to a new play that will work but in my opinion never seems to work. It just allows the defense to get set up and Get a good jump on the snap.

Love the mention of selling the tickets to the Purple. Yuck!!! Thanks for mention of THAT utter nonsense, Aaron. Is this turning into a situation akin to Cubs fans in Miller Park? Let's hope not!

As to the view from my computer screen in coastal Oregon:

The Good:

Offenisve start to the game. Night. And. Day. A beautiful first quarter - one might say flawless from an early script perspective.

The Bad:

I'm going to be nitpicky here because I expect greatness: The Defense Giving up Big Plays. The defense had a good day...BUT, let's call a spade a spade. A good day could have been outstanding if makable plays were actually made. I'm looking at the following: (1) over-pursuit on Cook's 75 yd run and a blatant missed tackle off a poor angle by Savage. (2) Jaire with an utter T-Rex arm performance on Digg's TD. That was a very very makable play he didn't make. Full stop. (I Love you Jaire. You had a good game. It could have been great). (3) Jaire had another play to make on Thielen's tough 3rd down catch. He had tight coverage. BUT that was a huge 3rd down and it could have given the weakly performing offense better field position - something they clearly needed at that juncture. All in all a very good and advantageous performance by the Defense. They definitely saved an underperforming and regressing offense. BUT, they have the ability to utterly dominate. They did not utterly dominate today. They played well enough to win and I am content, most definitely. BUT, they also have room to clean up the sloppy moments.

The Ugly: Offensive execution in qtrs. 2-4. Just utterly sloppy. Way too many points left on the board and drives stymied by penalties and drops and turnovers. Where do you really start? The false start from Davante? The poor early snap from Linsely (or the hold) that led to a turnover? Geronimo's ill-timed fumble on a drive that could have put more points on the board already up 21-0? The drops from Davante and MVS? We once again entered quarter 4 with merely 1 TO after a failed challenge and a slow-to-the-line forced TO by Rodgers in Q3. Too much inconsistency. Way too sloppy. Very very poor execution in key moments, in key plays, after quarter 1. UGLY.

Good:

Defense in cousins grill all day long.....” you like that?” :-)
Interceptions and turnovers against a stout Vikings team.

Rodgers played well, ball placement was excellent, it’s not his fault the snap was bad or the dropped passes. I watched the play clock the whole game....and counted maybe 4 plays out of an entire game where the clock ran down to 1 or zero.

Special teams caused that messed up extra point that the Vikings missed. Davis had ball security in mind on every punt and kick. The one where he waived it off and blocked the guy...I’m not putting that on him, it was an exceptional punt well inside the 5 and he was staring at purple..the ball just didn’t bounce into the endzone.

I like our defense and special teams, the D is for real.

Bad:

Aforementioned non field goal attempt ....what the crap?

2:43 on the clock and still trying to pound a finesse back ( Aaron Jones) instead of putting Williams in or maybe running a fullback against an already tired Vikings D? Jones already had 100 yards at that point and he’s not a power back....I mean why do it? Seriously.

Some play calling and clock management still needs to be seriously worked out on offense. Vikings had way to many chances due to crappy calls and lack of situational awareness on the Packers part.
Containing the run, especially when Madison was in relieving Cook.

Ugly:

Allison fumble. The really bad bad bad snap. Jamaal Williams is a way better blocker and he catches extremely well, just look at his numbers from last year why not use him more...especially towards the end of the game or on a crucial pass play. I like Jones, but Williams is a good good pass blocker and it seams like he catches every screen or pass play in his direction...under utilized.

Diggs being a doushebag

People already mentioned it, but the 3rd n 1, 3rd and 2 lack of conversions. This is where a pure power back ....like a Lagarrete Blount type would be really fricken handy, no need for misdirection or any BS, just pound it.....especially when you claim to be a running team.

Tackling...lots of missed tackles on several run plays.

I like to peruse all the comments in general, but when I see certain posters have posted recently, I always appreciated being able to simply click on the listing and get immediately to their comments.

People like Since61, Dobber, and so many others that I feel are must reads.. Please re-institute / debug that feature.

Ideally, I'd love to be able to click on a user profile and have a list of links to all their posts. A boy can dream.

Yes, yes and yes. Thanks Oppy. I was wondering if there was something wrong with my pad or something I was doing . The fixes would be great

Got a say I HATE the new format. Hopefully, go back to something closer to the old. I was happy to be able to watch the game (it wasn't shown locally) on the NFL replay the same day as the game (today, Sunday). Just finished it and I will take a W any way we can get it. Disappointed that the Packers didn't score again after the 21-0 beginning but saw some hopeful signs for the offense with the nice 8-9 yard Jones runs. 2-0 in the DIVISION is a fantastic start to the season. Bearmeat's pessimism about our chances for the first two games before the season started have proved to be fruitless, lol. One play I noticed that no one has mentioned is the heads up play where someone on our defense pushed one of the Smiths into a running Calvin Cook at the sideline to knock Cook out a couple of yards from the first down marker to force Minny to punt. Smart play.

Good
2-0 record
Jones running for 116
Defensive pressure on Cousins
Aaron Rodgers...as Dr. Jeckle...played superb for first quarter and part of second to get the Packers ahead 21-0

Bad
Aaron Rodgers...as Mr. Hyde...second quarter though fourth quarter...played horrible, like he forgot how to throw and could not even throw a forward pass for a completion with nonproductive drives leading to 8-9 punts and giving it over to the defense again and again to try to win the game with no more help from the offense. What a night and day difference in QB play by Rodgers 1st half compared to the second!! Unbelievable and pathetic performance!

Ugly

No mention of the WRs dropping balls placed right into their hands? He put the ball on the money time and time again but the catches weren't made. That's not his fault. If those catches were made you're looking at an easy 300 yard game.

THE GOOD: Receiving corps of Davante Adams and MVS were outstanding while Allison made a nice grab in end zone for a TD although he gave up a bad fumble and also had a bad drop.
Packers' defense also played well as a whole but Jaire Alexander should have been able to stick his arm out to prevent the the long bomb completion to Diggs.

JK Scott's terrific punting!

Packers' defense shows that it can bend but not break although it got a break when Cousins made an incredibly stupid throw into the end zone which resulted in the King interception.

THE BAD: Generally poor play-calling by Lafleur/Rodgers in second half. Lack of quick-hitting passes - nothing in the slot (where is Kumerow in the absence of Cobb???????) - and lack of
rhythm to offense. Rodgers spent the entire game trying to draw the Vikes offside and all he did was draw his own teammate offside in one instance! This tactic is futile and I would suggest costs the Pack vital momentum on offense.

THE UGLY: Obviously, giving up the 70 yd + run for a TD to let the Vikes back into the game.

Failure to kick FG when it was there for the taking instead of going for it on 4th and 1.

MVS and Allison had 7 combined catches on 11 targets for a whopping 44 yards. Granted 1 of those was a TD to Allison but I would hardly call that outstanding.

GOOD: Packers win, this site has a great community of fans and posters I love to read.

BAD: New site design, now with harder to read text, poor mobile functionality, inane padding and a splash page that shows me one story instead of a few.

UGLY: a HUGE reply button on every post that is bigger than the posts themselves.

Guys seriously. I don’t know what brought on this change (the old design was literally what brought me here it was great whhyyyy) but it is really crap UX. It is abhorrent. Please oh please change back to something compact and efficient. We are here to read, to to look at some schlocky design.

Fasten - what is your viewport (screen size) and device?
Maybe we can optimize a bit more to make things compact in some use cases.
I'm paying attention to the feedback.

Thank you!

Alex, I don't know what Fastenerpuller is using but on my desktop HP with a 20" w x 11 1/2 " h screen and 1920 x 1080 resolution, using Chrome browser, Windows 8.1 at 100% setting ( I normally use 150 or 175% on CHTV for easier reading) I can just barely get Fastenerpuller's comment and your reply to fit my screen from top to bottom!!! At my normal viewing setting I can see the comment or your reply. The space between everything seems like double or triple spacing in Word paragraph settings. The strength of CHTV is the back-and-forth in the comments discussion section. Currently, if I post a reply or comment I get returned to the top of the article. Also, I have to page down from the NEWS videos and podcast shown to get to the actual articles. I also can't see the other articles listed to the side like in the "old" system. Definitely a hard "NO" to the changed format so far. Just my two cents.

The good: A win against a divisional opponent, Aaron Jones rushing yards, another good defensive game, fast start

The bad: Not going for a field goal and turning ball over on downs, lack of consistency on offense after the 1st quarter, run defense

The ugly: Holding the ball to long, sloppy play after a 21-0 start, bad pass protection, reverting to old habits, new site

Going for the non-obvious GB&U

Good - AR not throwing short passes into the dirt and for getting the ball out quickly at least a bunch of times.

Bad - Using a $10M TE that must be the worst blocker in all of football as a blocker. That money could have bought real guard in and then we might have a real OL.

Ugly - Anyone that is not happy with being 2-0 when we could easily have been 0-2. Seems like last few years, we never got these wins. Maybe MLF is just plain lucky.

Is this site working? Post didn't take. Trying again. Sorry if it doubles up.

The Good- putting up 21 points in the first half, another great day by MPs defense, seeing Brett escort Candy, and a big win!
The bad-Putting the defense on the spot to hang on for a tight win.
The ugly-being blacked out locally in favor of the Redskins and cowboys and having to watch the game on my iPhone......GOPACKGO!

Good: Yes indeed, we got a defense.

Bad: Jimmy Graham. Yikes. How is that Jared Cook fellow doing? Wasn't he on our team?

Ugly: Vikings fans and media whining about the refs "Giving the game away" to the Packers.

Geez,
If any of the rumors about Lane Taylor and a draft pick to the Dolphins for Minkah Fitzpatrick have any substance, now might be a good time to make that trade

The new format is OK. It’s just that it will take me a few visits to get used to it. But I love this site regardless of the format. You people do a great job and I even click on the ads. Google loves me and I don’t care.
