Speaking Of Depleted Positions...

...what exactly is the plan at tight end?
Tyler Bohms has a good post up over at the Lounge in regards to the play of Lee, Humphrey and Finley last year in comparison to the play at the position in 2007. I tend to agree with most of what Tyler has to say. I would only add that it's a real shame Thompson couldn't find a way to keep Joey Haynos in the fold, as I think he would be the perfect complement to Lee and Finley this year. As it stands now, my guess would be they end up resigning Humphrey sometime this offseason. I also wouldn't rule out a rekindling of trade talks with the Chiefs in regards to Tony Gonzalez, especially as they now have a sane, non-egomaniac calling the shots in Kansas City.

Maybe we will get lucky and get Beckum.

Finley's role is likely to be a field spreader like Keith Jackson was. Only Jackson could block a bit too. Lee is a good receiver and a fair blocker. It would be nice if they could get someone that couold do both well. That way the defense would have to guess a little more often.

Wow...if the Pack took Paul Coffman`s kid that would be fantastic. Could you imagine Finley and Coffman? We would be set at the TE position for years to come.

jersey,
Wasn't there an article awhile back about Coffman not being a very good blocker? I would prefer that they pick up a tight end with good hands, but great blocking skills. That way we are set with a young TE who can catch (Finley), and one that can block (new guy).
