Sitton Displays Lighter Side Of Personality

Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Josh Sitton has a persona that's menacing on the field and droll off of it.

On the field, he's a mauling offensive lineman, arguably the best on the team at paving a path in the running game. A road grader.

Off the field, Josh Sitton appears to have an air of 'big, lovable goofball,' the type of guy who likes to keep things light and relaxed in the locker room. And that's not to say he's unfocused. His play is a testament to that.

But when he stood in front of the media at a Wednesday press conference – very likely the largest group of reporters that's ever been assembled in front of him at any point in his career – his appearance couldn't help but bring a smile to an onlooker's face.

The throwback Acme Packers knit cap, the long unkempt locks of curly hair, and the t-shirt that that declared in green and gold lettering "Feelin' So Fly Like A Cheesehead." It was a sight to behold.

The uninitiated probably had a difficult time deciphering the phrase on the t-shirt: What the heck does Feelin' So Fly Like A Cheesehead mean?

"It's just a video that we found online that the trainers actually showed me," said Sitton. "I thought the video was cool. So I posted it on my Facebook, and they sent me a T-shirt. So I'll do pretty much anything for a free T-shirt."

The video is a parody of the popular song "Like A G6" by the artist Far East Movement, a reference to to the Gulfstream G650 jet, a fast and expensive aircraft.

Madison-based Higher Education Records created the parody that has gotten over half a million views on YouTube.

"I thought it was awesome," said Sitton. "I thought it was hilarious. I liked it a lot. We're giving them a lot of good publicity, so they don't mind."

The serious side of Josh Sitton is preparing for a meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV on Feb. 6 in Dallas.

But the lighter side of the offensive guard recalls a memory shortly before the regular season started when Sitton, the rest of the offensive line and quarterback Aaron Rodgers sported bolo ties and stetson hats at the organization's annual Welcome Back Packers Luncheon in September, a nod to the Super Bowl being played in Texas.

The fashion statement being made was one of humor, but it also said in a not-so-subtle way that it was the team's goal to reach the NFL's title game this season.

"I think it's pretty funny," said Sitton. "A bunch of cowboys back in [September], and now we're heading down to Dallas. I think it's pretty cool."

The publicity stunt attracted attention, and not all of it was positive. Some viewed it as harmless joke that was worth a chuckle. Others felt it bordered on being too cocky for their own good.

Sitton said the whole event got "blown up."

"It's funny that we're here now, we can say it now and not get in trouble," said Sitton. "But it really didn't have anything to do with that. It was just kind of a funny thing that we wanted to do. And it makes all the fans out there that paid the money to come sit at the table, you know, made all them laugh.

"It was just a funny thing that we're a bunch of kind of characters in that room. So we just wanted to do something funny."

The Packers have reached their goal of qualifying for the Super Bowl, and Sitton has been a big part of it. Just this week it was announced that he received votes for the Associated Press All-Pro team, although not enough to be named first or second team.

Still, it's an acknowledgement that Sitton is an offensive lineman on the rise in the NFL.

With the hype and hoopla of Super Bowl week yet to happen, including the always-entertaining Media Day, there might be another opportunity for the blithe side of Josh Sitton to be on display one more time.

But if past history is any indicator, the mean-streak of the 6-3, 318 pounder will reappear on Super Bowl Sunday.

Hopefully the Packers can find another mauler guard like Sitton to replace Colledge on the left side this offseason. It would really help the running game.

Love Sitton. As far as the 'music' goes, I'm glad I'm not young.
