The Vikings finished 13-3 last season. They didn't need him especially for two 1sts.
The Bears finished 5-11 and still need more talent.

The Packers have dealt with big time pass rushers at DE and massive, disruptive DTs in the NFC North (and Central) over the years.

Yes, Mack is really, really good. It is just another challenge.

That will probably be Marcedes Lewis...Mack will become the OLB in the Bears 3-4 so essentially he will be a DE and Lewis claims he can handle DE's alone. The Bears have always had good LBs and we still beat them at a minimum 1 of 2.

I had not even heard of Tonyan until a fellow CheeseheadTV poster brought him up. Then I continued to watch him during the preseason and was extremely impressed. He’s 6’5 and it seems like he runs nice routes and catches everything. I’m rooting for him to make it and dare I say it...let Kendrick’s go. The last game on Kizers interception.....yes, Kizers pass was high and sailed on him a bit, BUT there was no jumping to go get that ball effort on Kendrick’s part. I hope Tonyan makes it...he seems like he really wants it.

That was Kuhn. Rip declined rather than developing. We also now have Lewis to block.

A number of us (not me) have been speculating that Kerridge would win out if we keep any full backs. Simply put, Rip hasn’t cut it since the playoff fumble. Not likely anything to do with Mack.

I do not think the Green Bay Packers are reacting to the Bear's acquisition of Khalil Mack in a fashion anywhere near the way Packers fans are.

I don't think they change anything on cutdown day. It's not like they weren't concerned with protecting Aaron Rodgers until the Mack news broke.

Maybe the Pack goes without a FB this year and keep Tonyan.

Mack will pull a groin or hamstring right off the bat and miss half the season. Happens every time with hold outs
That being said, Gute should have pulled the trigger on the trade for Mack cuz now we are going to have to go against him twice a year for the foreseeable future.

Also surprised the Pack kept the drafted long snapper, triner was better, hope it doesn't cost them a game, but hey, its a long snapper, maybe they'll sign Goode again.

Haha, cut down day, sit it always head scratching fun?

Thoughts so far (Ahmad Thomas last cut): Gutekunst really isn't putting a lot of stock into ST's with cuts like Goodson and Ripkowski. I really thought Lancaster would make it so I was surprised there. Hawkins didn't surprise me because he's athletic but hasn't been good.

Mays didn't surprise me because he hasn't been available and can probably get on the PS anyways. With only 2 HB's it will certainly be interesting to see if Joe Kerridge makes it at FB or if they really are going to depend on a TE playing h-back that much. I don't think our top TE's make very good h-back's, but Kendricks would probably be the best of them. If Tonyan makes the team, though, he'd be interesting at h-back. My 53 already has 4 wrong so not my best year, but I did think we'd be more balanced this year and depend on TE's more and the likelihood of that is going up by the cut. My wrong predictions so far are Martini, Goodson, Ripkowski, and Lancaster.

Some weight at OLB would be nice, though. (I won't rehash all the well documented issues with the starting OLB) I'm not sure what the strategy is, but they are onion peel thin at the whole LB position.

TJ Watt had 7 sacks last year. Clay Matthews had 8.5 sacks last year and everybody is complaining. So if people aren't happy with 8.5 sacks out of Matthews, why would they be happy with 7 sacks out of Watt? Do you think Watt is going to become some stud or would you have been happy with some rotational pass-rusher?

It's also kind of weird that you are judging the trade by the lower pick, and Kevin King clearly has a lot to like, but injuries happen. It really seems like you are stretching to criticize TT here.

Sheehy is looking like one of the most overlooked players on the roster. At this point, we either keep Sheehy, Mbu, or only 5 DL's. I thought Sheehy played pretty well, but he's just not athletic and didn't get many opportunities against 1's and 2's so I kept him off my 53. Will be interesting to see what the Packers do with the DL.

Our GM seems to be cutting players with marginal talent (those players who just can’t get over the hump and separate themselves from being much better than others). I’m impressed.

Designated for return? Not sure if he can be though if not on the initial 53.

After checking, you are correct. Can’t return this year as not on roster during season. Would have had to keep him on the 53 through Sunday waiver period I believe before placing him on IR if we wanted the option to activate him.

sonomaca, Thanks for the clarification. I had forgotten about the pre-season practice IR rules. I knew he couldn't be on the PUP but didn't remember that he had to be on the 53 to bring back. I did remember that there is no "designated to return" stuff for IR and that a team can bring back two. These crazy rules seem to keep changing, lol.

Byrd and Kendricks are easily expendable but I'd keep Byrd over Kendricks if I had to make that choice. Davis is 50/50. As for Boyle, qb's are the most sought after of all positions. I don't care whether he was drafted or not. The kid can throw that rock better than most starters. I don't see how GB cuts him and expects him to last on the PS. Not going to happen.

Yeah, I know. It sucks when you're wrong White Tornado. It's happened to me on a few occasions but not too often. Just be happy the Packers know more about qb'ing than you do. I was the only person here to say this and I'll say it again. Ladies and gentlemen. Our next franchise qb after Rodgers retires or gets traded in three years is officially on the roster. His name is Tim Boyle. There is a reason Hundley was traded. They love Tim Boyle's long term potential. Off the charts!! Great day in Packerland!!

Awfully BOLD statement!! He has some skills Ill give you that. I never said he was bad. I learned a long time ago not to get too excited about UDFA.

As much as I disliked TT, i must admit he didnt make too many mistakes when it came to releasing players. The T Hill thing will pass as many others have.

Maybe you are right about Boyle. I wouldn't bet my next paycheck on it! I've seen too many cant miss prospects come and go for that.

I won't be happy if Davis is cut, that is true.

Just promise me that instead of sending me a card and chocolates while I'm in the hospital, that you find someone who is actually qualified to assess QB talent at the Div 1 level (much less NFL level) and you'll sit down with them and listen to them assess all of Boyle's throws this preseason.

Lol. I'm not joking. Please find someone to break down the throws. He is a project at best. They need to get him off Pick Six avenue.

Oppy, you keep telling yourself that if that will make you feel better about being wrong about Boyle. Whatever comforts you. Meanwhile in the real world, Tim Boyle just made the team and is on his way to being our franchise qb when Rodgers is either traded or he retires in three to four yeaers. This kid is the most talented qb we have had here since Aaron Rodgers. I've seen lots of qb's in my time and this guy just sticks out to me in terms of talent and confidence. I can't believe we were able to get this guy. Might be one of the Packers all time greatest picks in their history when it's all said and done.

Well to be fair these are the guys who spent three years on Hundley, drafted Brohm and Flynn and have not exactly been batting it out of the park lately. The days of the Packers backup being a future starter in the league are long gone. Matt Hasselbeck is 42 years old so there's quite a gap to the days when every backup Green Bay QB was league ready.

But with that said I am sure hoping they know that Kizer and Boyle are more than what we have seen so far. And I also hope we never need to find out.

Flynn was a success story for a 7th rounder (if memory serves). Did very well for us. Later career seems to have been derailed by arm issues it is true.

As to Boyle: pocket passers are hard to find, particularly with a strong arm and prototypical size. Seems to have some pocket awareness. Looking at him, he seems to progress through reads generally. That said, he has basic footwork errors, or did when he tried to force things in the second half against the Chiefs. With that showed a tendency to stare down.

These are issues seen as typically correctable as opposed to issues processing defenses and reads, arm strength etc. Ordinarily, prospects like this are drafted. His history is unusual.

He may be one who truly slipped through the cracks and yet offers seemingly significant scope to improve on a strong if raw natural package. That is rare. While potential is never guaranteed to materialize, this set of circumstances creates a level of upside too great to risk losing through waivers.

There are many QBs drafted in the early rounds this year that may not have Boyle’s upside at the optimistic end, though they maybe more ready now. I believe Boyle would have been taken for that reason. He is an unusual proposition.

I can hardly believe no one is crying about Gute cutting Vince Biegel. I was pounding the table early before camp even started for Gilbert, and Allison and was told by many Biegel was better than Gilbert and Allison sucked and might not make the team. Aint that right Taryn, lol. Looks like both had some of the better camps for their position groups this summer. I will stand by my comments made in April and May that Gilbert will make a big impact and Allison will catch 60 passes at least.

Indeed, I was informed quite earnestly that Biegel had more potential and was drafted for a reason and Gilbert was not for a reason. I was also informed how rare it is for UDFA to have success in the League and that the only thing holding Biegel back was a foot injury. :-}

I was optimistic for Biegel coming into camp, having heard he put on muscle and was healthy. However, It's hard to imagine anyone watching him practice/play during camp thinking he could compete vs. NFL OT's in 2018. He just gets manhandled. Not physical enough. Who knows, maybe he continues to grind and gets it together someday.. but watching Gilbert and Biegel side by side, it's not even close.

Someone postulated in a different thread that perhaps the Packers release a QB to make space for Jones after week two. They protect a QB from massive waiver exposure today and hope the other 31 teams are settled in enough to not steal a QB in two weeks.

I thought it was an interesting concept and it's the only thing that will keep me from blowing a gasket if the Packers waste 2 roster spots on back up QBs today when we have a number of different players who could actually make an impact on this team in 2018 if they make the 53.
