In other news .....Bryan Bulaga just stated " yeah coach I think I'll be good to go by week 2"

Thom Tedson's picture

Several Packers cast-offs have already been set adrift again: Gunter, Barclay, Ringo and , yes, the GOAT Jeff Janis.

SJ EC's picture

Pretty excited to see how the day plays out... bound to be some surprises! Now we add the K Mack news to the mix, and these next few days should make for some interesting reading!

Vrog's picture

Mack to the Bears.

I bleed green more's picture

K Mack traded to the Bears.

I bleed green more's picture

Bears win 5 more games this year book it hate this.

Oppy's picture

I booked it. It's a good thing a statement like that is easily verifiable!

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

Mack probably moves the needle for Chicago by 1 or 2 games? If they get a cascade effect (Mack's presence makes Floyd and Hicks better) maybe they net 3 and get to 8-8. The rest of any improvement has to be through Trubisky and Robinson/Gabriel/Burton.

jeremyjjbrown's picture

It's all Trubisky IMO. Even with Julius Peppers the Packers still owned the Bears.

TheBigCheeze's picture

.....as long as 2 of them are against the purple pukes, I'm good with that.

Bure9620's picture

Great, now we have to block Khalil Mack twice a year......

SJ EC's picture

Was certainly not a pleasant Saturday morning after reading the news...

Qoojo's picture

Especially when you consider all the talk about packers getting him, then finding out the bears got him. At least the historically irrelevant purple team did not get him.

Samson's picture

The Vikings finished 13-3 last season. They didn't need him especially for two 1sts.
The Bears finished 5-11 and still need more talent.

TheBigCheeze's picture

.....get off this Packer board, purple puke.

Samson's picture

Avoid the truth all you want, but, the Vikes are the NFC's elite right now. --- The Pack have a ways to go.

FYI - I grew up a stone's throw from Lambeau Field. --- I've met more Packer players than you can name.

Oppy's picture

I believe the Vikings are a very good team that has been wildly overrated based on their performance in 2017 in a NFC ravaged by injury leading to the usual power teams under performing, while they themselves had unprecedented health on their side.

I don't expect them to be push overs- they never are- but my prediction is we see the Vikings fall back down to earth in 2018. A healthy Aaron Rodgers alone cuts the Vikings back down to size, much less the health of the rest of the NFC.

Samson's picture

You're cherry picking excuses again.
With a healthy AR, no doubt the Pack has and will close the gap on the Vikes. Along with the improvement in the Pack's "D".

What scares me: Cousins is a better QB than Keenum. -- A big year from Cousins will keep Minnesota at the top.

Oppy's picture

I'm not cherry picking excuses at all.
That's my honest assessment of the Vikings and the NFC at large in 2017.

I think the Vikings are a very good team. I do not think they see the level of success they found in 2017 because I believe the NFC will rebound in general. I don't believe Cousins signing will be as impactful as the Vikings hope, because I think A) they overpaid and it will eventually impact the rest of the roster, and more importantly, B) they enter 2018 with the 28th ranked offensive line in the league.

I also think the Packers led by a healthy Aaron Rodgers will whoop their purple asses until they turn a shade so dark light can't escape it.

Nick Perry's picture

You mean that guy who is 6 games under 500 as a stater and never won a playoff game. Is THAT the guy who get's them over the top? Christ I lived there for 26 years and listened to that same ole BS. News Flash... The Vikings NEVER make it to the top and Cousins ain't taking em there either.

Vikings finish 9-7 and out of playoffs....Book it!!! I mean that's what they do EVERY year after winning the division and doing NOTHING!

Edit...Your always so ready and willing to point out the Packers flaws but you fail to mention Minnesotas biggest...They never won SH##!!!!!!!!

Rak47's picture

The year Keenum had last year was as good as any Cousins has had in Washington. Also Keenum had a winning record against 500% or Teams last year which is something Cousins has never done. The Queens also only lost 4 games to injury by their defensive starters which is unheard of as almost every other team had more than 4 players on defense that missed 4 or more games each. I just don't see the stars lining up for them in such a way this year.

Coldworld's picture

He is correct on the Vikes not needing to pay the price and implying that the cost won’t make the Bears all division.

Oppy's picture

I don't disagree.

Spock's picture

Samson, Quote: "FYI - I grew up a stone's throw from Lambeau Field."
So, you've been throwing stones at the Packers ever since? :)

Oppy's picture

The Packers have dealt with big time pass rushers at DE and massive, disruptive DTs in the NFC North (and Central) over the years.

Yes, Mack is really, really good. It is just another challenge.

TheBigCheeze's picture

so what??.....one player doesn't make a team....unless that one player is Rodgers.

Samson's picture

One player can often mean the difference between being a playoff team and a non playoff team.
Try spending more effort researching the history of the NFL.

Coldworld's picture

Vikings have a history worth researching?

Since '61's picture

The Vikings haven't been in the league since the '70s. What history can they possibly have? Thanks, Since '61

Packerbacker1's picture

That will probably be Marcedes Lewis...Mack will become the OLB in the Bears 3-4 so essentially he will be a DE and Lewis claims he can handle DE's alone. The Bears have always had good LBs and we still beat them at a minimum 1 of 2.

DraftHobbyist's picture

This is always McCarthy's grumpiest time of the year; another reason to love MM.

Coldworld's picture

The Falcons are done already. One ex packer was Tavecchio the kicker.

Samson's picture

Wow! - Do not like Mack in Chicago. --- He may very well have been the piece GB needed to vault their "D into the upper echelons of the NFL. --- Now GB is left to hope CM3 & Perry can play a full season at an uninjured level.

TheBigCheeze's picture

Samson.....you got nothin' better to do than sit in mommy's basement and troll Packer boards??......get lost.......

Samson's picture

My mother's been in heaven for over 30 years.
Are there basements in heaven? --- LOL

egbertsouse's picture

Yeah, it’s called Duluth.

Oppy's picture

"You can't handle Duluth." - Jack Nicholson

BradHTX's picture

Well played, Oppy!

Duke Divine's picture

I live in Duluth... Heaven...more like heroin...

egbertsouse's picture

That’s why it’s in the basement.

Oppy's picture

Is the Electric Fetus still in operation? I don't even know if record stores are still a thing. Did I just date myself into "Grampa" territory?

egbertsouse's picture

NOBODY can handle Duluth!

sonomaca's picture

Packers would have had to give up both 2019 first rounders, at least. I think they should have done it.

Oppy's picture

You are forgetting the contract that they'd have to draft, on top of the two firsts.

sonomaca's picture

True. Definitely a consideration. However, if a Mack hit or Mack pressure ends with Rodgers on IR, everyone will want a redo on Mack trade.

Oppy's picture

What if Mack isn't on the field, and Chicago runs a CB blitz, and Rodgers breaks his collar bone again? Are the Packers at fault for not making a trade for the CB?

I mean, I'm being ridiculous, but I think you know what I'm trying to say.

Jonathan Spader's picture

Barr was the one who broke Rodger's collarbone in 2017 and I don't care if he's on the Packers or not.

Lare's picture

I'm guessing Oakland was convinced that the Bears first round picks would be a lot higher than the Packers first round picks.

sonomaca's picture

Yes, but one of those was 2020.

sonomaca's picture

Odom and Hawkins small surprises. Probably means 7 receivers and Tonyan.

4thand10's picture

I had not even heard of Tonyan until a fellow CheeseheadTV poster brought him up. Then I continued to watch him during the preseason and was extremely impressed. He’s 6’5 and it seems like he runs nice routes and catches everything. I’m rooting for him to make it and dare I say it...let Kendrick’s go. The last game on Kizers interception.....yes, Kizers pass was high and sailed on him a bit, BUT there was no jumping to go get that ball effort on Kendrick’s part. I hope Tonyan makes it...he seems like he really wants it.

Coldworld's picture

Pankey, Martini and Donnerson are the only ones I definitely want us to invite back onto the PS so far

Rak47's picture

I see they cut Ripkowski, does that mean Kerridge made the team as a FB?

sonomaca's picture

Trying to trade Trevor Davis.

tm_inter's picture

The Packers are releasing CB Demetri Goodson, a source said. Reported by Rob Demovsky.

sonomaca's picture

Trying to trade Davis, dumping Goodson. Is Janis on his way back?

Oppy's picture

Who is reporting Packers trying to Trade Davis? I tried a google search and nothing popped.

EDIT, once I put in the word rumor, I found it. Tom Silverstein.

Packerbacker1's picture

Nope - Janis is going to join up with Hundley in Seattle to replace Wilson and Baldwin as the top Qb Wr scoring tandem...they make a fine couple lol

sonomaca's picture

Pankey surprise. Day makes it?

sonomaca's picture

Martini PS for sure.

sonomaca's picture

Is Barclay returning?

sonomaca's picture

Pankey, Donnerson, Martini to PS?

sonomaca's picture

So, in week one we’ve got Mack vs a hobbled Bulaga, or perhaps no Bulaga. Yikes!

sonomaca's picture

Mays to PS also?

Jersey Al's picture

I'd expect an injury settlement.

sonomaca's picture

Waters makes it? With Pipkins, Brown and Goodson all gone. Or, will we see return of Gunter?

Jersey Al's picture

Still no word on Rollins, Waters and Greene. I had Waters making it (crazy, I know...).

sonomaca's picture

If he’s Sam Shields II, by all means.

Coldworld's picture

Rollins apparently has a hamstring injury. Waive Injured or IR. In my view the former. If they put him on IR he has to be on the initial 53 I think.

sonomaca's picture

He’s often hurt. Hamstring. Could be awhile. Waive him and bring back later if necessary.

sonomaca's picture

Rip gone. First impact of Mack trade? Kerridge offers better pass pro?

sonomaca's picture

We all remember Kuhn block which saved the day in Chicago vs. Peppers.

Coldworld's picture

That was Kuhn. Rip declined rather than developing. We also now have Lewis to block.

A number of us (not me) have been speculating that Kerridge would win out if we keep any full backs. Simply put, Rip hasn’t cut it since the playoff fumble. Not likely anything to do with Mack.

sonomaca's picture

Good point.

Oppy's picture

I do not think the Green Bay Packers are reacting to the Bear's acquisition of Khalil Mack in a fashion anywhere near the way Packers fans are.

I don't think they change anything on cutdown day. It's not like they weren't concerned with protecting Aaron Rodgers until the Mack news broke.

sonomaca's picture

Yes, but if they don’t react and Rodgers gets another broken collarbone or concussion, that’s going to bite management.

Oppy's picture

When you start making decisions because of what people might think instead of what's necessary, you might as well close up shop, because you'll run the team into the ground. Make other teams adjust to what YOU do.

sonomaca's picture

Well, if they end up keeping Kerridge, I think Mack might be reason why.

sonomaca's picture

Still 20 to go.

nostradanus's picture

Maybe the Pack goes without a FB this year and keep Tonyan.

Mack will pull a groin or hamstring right off the bat and miss half the season. Happens every time with hold outs
That being said, Gute should have pulled the trigger on the trade for Mack cuz now we are going to have to go against him twice a year for the foreseeable future.

Also surprised the Pack kept the drafted long snapper, triner was better, hope it doesn't cost them a game, but hey, its a long snapper, maybe they'll sign Goode again.

Haha, cut down day, sit it always head scratching fun?

Coldworld's picture

Agree on Triner. That is a head scratcher based upon preseason

sonomaca's picture

Ahmad Thomas. There’s a mild surprise.

LayingTheLawe's picture

If they cut both Martini and Thomas then either someone else is on the way or they expect to play a lot of safeties down in the linebacker spot.

DraftHobbyist's picture

Thoughts so far (Ahmad Thomas last cut): Gutekunst really isn't putting a lot of stock into ST's with cuts like Goodson and Ripkowski. I really thought Lancaster would make it so I was surprised there. Hawkins didn't surprise me because he's athletic but hasn't been good.

Mays didn't surprise me because he hasn't been available and can probably get on the PS anyways. With only 2 HB's it will certainly be interesting to see if Joe Kerridge makes it at FB or if they really are going to depend on a TE playing h-back that much. I don't think our top TE's make very good h-back's, but Kendricks would probably be the best of them. If Tonyan makes the team, though, he'd be interesting at h-back. My 53 already has 4 wrong so not my best year, but I did think we'd be more balanced this year and depend on TE's more and the likelihood of that is going up by the cut. My wrong predictions so far are Martini, Goodson, Ripkowski, and Lancaster.

LayingTheLawe's picture

They only keep two running backs while Jones is out or does Leshaun Daniels make it?

sonomaca's picture

He’s probably there until Jones returns.

sonomaca's picture

Scanning league cuts for OT’s. Not many even released so far.

Jersey Al's picture

I'd give Antonio Garcia a look. Coming back from an blood clot issue. Prod not fully in foitball shape yet, he was my #4 OT in the 2017 draft. Fits what the Packers like in an OT.

sonomaca's picture

It’s now Kevin King vs. Watt, one-on -one.

Lare's picture

Just cut Vince Biegel.

Coldworld's picture

Gutekunst just went up in my estimation for that one. May be a PS target, but is not currently roster material.

We are cleaning out the back rooms!

Got to be some new faces coming now surely!

Oppy's picture

I hate to Thumbs up a cut.. But I just thumbs up'd that cut.

I thought we should not carry a bunch of dead weight at OLB when we have depth at other positions that could be kept.

Otto's picture

Some weight at OLB would be nice, though. (I won't rehash all the well documented issues with the starting OLB) I'm not sure what the strategy is, but they are onion peel thin at the whole LB position.

They must have A LOT of confidence in Pettine's coaching.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

So, Jersey Al got that right.

Coldworld's picture

He did.

Jersey Al's picture

I thought it was an easy decision, but I was definitely in the minority...

sonomaca's picture

If you have an OT who has even the slightest bit of talent or potential, he’s a keeper.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

Like Pankey.

sonomaca's picture

Yeah, bit of a surprise. Good chance he’s claimed. That was risky move.

Coldworld's picture

Pankey and Thomas are the two that puzzle me most

Lare's picture

Yeah, the Pankey cut surprised me.

Lare's picture

Marwin Evans cut.

sonomaca's picture

Not surprising.

Coldworld's picture

Greene looking like he might make it,

Coldworld's picture

Well, this is a lot less predictable than prior year cut downs it seems to me.

Jersey Al's picture

Very much so. First year with Gute, so we're all learning something. One thing for sure. he's a lot quicker to cut bait when needed.

sonomaca's picture

Not at all married to TT players.

SJ EC's picture

Definitely refreshing on one hand, but a bit nerve wracking on the other!

4thand1's picture

Players are cut or kept for what they show or don't show in practice. Every pre season game is just practice. More shoes will drop for players of every team, and all teams will find a player or two that fit their needs.

White _tornado's picture

Where are all the "in Ted we trust" people today? Does anyone think that passing on T J Watt in favor of KK and Biegel was a good move now?
Biegel showed NOTHING letss hope King can stay healthy and give us something.

sonomaca's picture

Hey, give King a chance. He’s done some nice things lately.

DraftHobbyist's picture

TJ Watt had 7 sacks last year. Clay Matthews had 8.5 sacks last year and everybody is complaining. So if people aren't happy with 8.5 sacks out of Matthews, why would they be happy with 7 sacks out of Watt? Do you think Watt is going to become some stud or would you have been happy with some rotational pass-rusher?

It's also kind of weird that you are judging the trade by the lower pick, and Kevin King clearly has a lot to like, but injuries happen. It really seems like you are stretching to criticize TT here.

Coldworld's picture

Don’t you know that the grass is always greener elsewhere?

Oppy's picture

I love Ted Thompson. That MF'er is alright.

Plus, he played in the NFL for ten years, mostly STs of course, and played in 146 of 147 games.

Guys like Ted Thompson probably make guys like you and me look "soft", Tornado.

sonomaca's picture

Still 15 to go.

Dash Riprock's picture

Crossing fingers for Boyle and Tonyan.

Dash Riprock's picture

....and Kumerow. All worthy of a spot.

White _tornado's picture

You must have saw something that most of us didnt vs the Chiefs. I'm hoping Boyle is the next cut! No need to roster a guy that will easily make it to the p.s.

Dash Riprock's picture

Ah, I watched him ALL preseason make great pass after great pass and most of them were dropped by Sha'Mon Moore. So it wasn't just the KC second half. I hope to hell they don't make decisions on players based on a few series. In fact I know they don't why? Because Sha'Mon is still on the team as of this post. We'll see I guess.

Oppy's picture

There's a lot of poorly thrown balls that still end up receptions.

DraftHobbyist's picture

Sheehy is looking like one of the most overlooked players on the roster. At this point, we either keep Sheehy, Mbu, or only 5 DL's. I thought Sheehy played pretty well, but he's just not athletic and didn't get many opportunities against 1's and 2's so I kept him off my 53. Will be interesting to see what the Packers do with the DL.

Gman1976's picture

Our GM seems to be cutting players with marginal talent (those players who just can’t get over the hump and separate themselves from being much better than others). I’m impressed.

Gman1976's picture

Our GM seems to be cutting players with marginal talent (those players who just can’t get over the hump and separate themselves from being much better than others). I’m impressed.

Bure9620's picture

Thinking Raven Greene makes it.

Bure9620's picture

Kyle Murphy to IR, I guess we wont get to see him block Khalil Mack.........

Coldworld's picture

Probably a candidate to bring back (in season or next year). Did not seem the same player this year.

sonomaca's picture

If player practices during pre-season, IR lasts till next season.

Coldworld's picture

Designated for return? Not sure if he can be though if not on the initial 53.

After checking, you are correct. Can’t return this year as not on roster during season. Would have had to keep him on the 53 through Sunday waiver period I believe before placing him on IR if we wanted the option to activate him.

Spock's picture

sonomaca, Thanks for the clarification. I had forgotten about the pre-season practice IR rules. I knew he couldn't be on the PUP but didn't remember that he had to be on the 53 to bring back. I did remember that there is no "designated to return" stuff for IR and that a team can bring back two. These crazy rules seem to keep changing, lol.

Lare's picture

Still eight WRs and five TEs on the roster by my count.

sonomaca's picture

I’m predicting Davis and Moore are the cuts.

sonomaca's picture

Oh, and Bryd and Kendricks.

SJ EC's picture

Pretty bold predictions, but I could definitely see that happening... saw an earlier post reference a trade rumor for Davis- I think that might be a bit less shocking than a full-blown cut.

Lare's picture

They're reportedly trying to trade Davis, also doubt they keep five TE's plus Kerridge (FB).

sonomaca's picture

No luck so far.

Dash Riprock's picture

Somethings gotta give on some of those receivers. Who are they? That is the question.

Bure9620's picture

Marwin Evans cut, thought he looked better than whitehead

Coldworld's picture

Not sure I agree, but not much in it except Whitehead plays multiple positions.

sonomaca's picture

You mean Alex Light and Bell are going to be our backup tackles?

Lare's picture

And Spriggs.

Dash Riprock's picture

I have to say nothing earth shattering as far as players go. Rip and Biegel, mild surprise but no major name yet. Now having said that if I see Boyle's name I might throw a chair thru my window.

Otto's picture

Marcedes Lewis + OT is the solution to the Mack trade.

sonomaca's picture

One problem is that, apart from Spriggs, there really aren’t any qualified backup tackles. And, qualified is a stretch even for him. Is it Spriggs then McCray (on the right side) and Taylor (in the left)?

Hawg Hanner's picture

Great point. But does Mack move around and jump gaps? Still we are in better shape than last season and the defense will be pretty good

Jordan Speer's picture

Does that mean we kept 8 WRs?
Tae, Cobb, G-Mo, TDavis, JMoore, Eq, MVS, and Kumerow

sonomaca's picture

Davis, Byrd, Kendricks, Boyle still in play.

Dash Riprock's picture

Byrd and Kendricks are easily expendable but I'd keep Byrd over Kendricks if I had to make that choice. Davis is 50/50. As for Boyle, qb's are the most sought after of all positions. I don't care whether he was drafted or not. The kid can throw that rock better than most starters. I don't see how GB cuts him and expects him to last on the PS. Not going to happen.

White _tornado's picture

Just which starter can Boyle throw better than?

I didn't know that Todd Marinovich, Ryan Leaf or Joey Harrington were starting anymore.

Dash Riprock's picture

Yeah, I know. It sucks when you're wrong White Tornado. It's happened to me on a few occasions but not too often. Just be happy the Packers know more about qb'ing than you do. I was the only person here to say this and I'll say it again. Ladies and gentlemen. Our next franchise qb after Rodgers retires or gets traded in three years is officially on the roster. His name is Tim Boyle. There is a reason Hundley was traded. They love Tim Boyle's long term potential. Off the charts!! Great day in Packerland!!

White _tornado's picture

Awfully BOLD statement!! He has some skills Ill give you that. I never said he was bad. I learned a long time ago not to get too excited about UDFA.

As much as I disliked TT, i must admit he didnt make too many mistakes when it came to releasing players. The T Hill thing will pass as many others have.

Maybe you are right about Boyle. I wouldn't bet my next paycheck on it! I've seen too many cant miss prospects come and go for that.

Coldworld's picture

Sheehy has been waived.

sonomaca's picture

Could we see a Cobb deal?

sonomaca's picture

We’ve got too many receivers, and Jacksonville, among others, don’t have enough.

Coldworld's picture

Can trade post cut down, as long as we have reached 53. Problem is we could get stuck with an unbalanced roster and scraps if trades don’t go through

Duke Divine's picture

About 10 to go

Dash Riprock's picture

Come on Boyle, make it damnit!! make it!!

Dash Riprock's picture

Hey Oppy, maybe you should check yourself into the hospital if Silverstein is right. lol

Oppy's picture

I won't be happy if Davis is cut, that is true.

Just promise me that instead of sending me a card and chocolates while I'm in the hospital, that you find someone who is actually qualified to assess QB talent at the Div 1 level (much less NFL level) and you'll sit down with them and listen to them assess all of Boyle's throws this preseason.

Dash Riprock's picture

Yet another dejected fan who thought he knew more about qb'ing than Green Bay. That makes two. I am sure there's more.

Oppy's picture

Lol. I'm not joking. Please find someone to break down the throws. He is a project at best. The Packers are betting they can get him to turn the corner, because the street he's currently on is at the corner of NFL Strong Boulevard and Pick Six Accuracy Avenue. They need to get him off Pick Six avenue.

Dash Riprock's picture

Oppy, you keep telling yourself that if that will make you feel better about being wrong about Boyle. Whatever comforts you. Meanwhile in the real world, Tim Boyle just made the team and is on his way to being our franchise qb when Rodgers is either traded or he retires in three to four yeaers. This kid is the most talented qb we have had here since Aaron Rodgers. I've seen lots of qb's in my time and this guy just sticks out to me in terms of talent and confidence. I can't believe we were able to get this guy. Might be one of the Packers all time greatest picks in their history when it's all said and done.

Oppy's picture

I'm not sure if you're serious or trolling at this point.
I will leave it at "I hope you're right", I guess.

LayingTheLawe's picture

Well to be fair these are the guys who spent three years on Hundley, drafted Brohm and Flynn and have not exactly been batting it out of the park lately. The days of the Packers backup being a future starter in the league are long gone. Matt Hasselbeck is 42 years old so there's quite a gap to the days when every backup Green Bay QB was league ready.

But with that said I am sure hoping they know that Kizer and Boyle are more than what we have seen so far. And I also hope we never need to find out.

Coldworld's picture

Flynn was a success story for a 7th rounder (if memory serves). Did very well for us. Later career seems to have been derailed by arm issues it is true.

As to Boyle: pocket passers are hard to find, particularly with a strong arm and prototypical size. Seems to have some pocket awareness. Looking at him, he seems to progress through reads generally. That said, he has basic footwork errors, or did when he tried to force things in the second half against the Chiefs. With that showed a tendency to stare down.

These are issues seen as typically correctable as opposed to issues processing defenses and reads, arm strength etc. Ordinarily, prospects like this are drafted. His history is unusual.

He may be one who truly slipped through the cracks and yet offers seemingly significant scope to improve on a strong if raw natural package. That is rare. While potential is never guaranteed to materialize, this set of circumstances creates a level of upside too great to risk losing through waivers.

There are many QBs drafted in the early rounds this year that may not have Boyle’s upside at the optimistic end, though they maybe more ready now. I believe Boyle would have been taken for that reason. He is an unusual proposition.

DraftHobbyist's picture

By my count 4 more cuts. There were only 88 on the roster - Murphy to IR - Jones SUS - 29 cuts (Amichia last cut) = 4 more cuts.

Bure9620's picture

Sooooo, whats the final 53?

DraftHobbyist's picture

Also, Packers reportedly shopping for an OLB.

Yes Yes Yes, TIM BOYLE has made the 53 man roster according to Tom Silverstein!!

JonnieB12's picture

Why are you so happy that Boyle made the team ?

Actually I apologize for that. My computer was stuck and wasn't sure my message went thru. I see it three times. Did not mean to do that. Yes, I was happy but not THAT happy. Sorry for that everyone.

It's like Groundhogs Day around here.

I can hardly believe no one is crying about Gute cutting Vince Biegel. I was pounding the table early before camp even started for Gilbert, and Allison and was told by many Biegel was better than Gilbert and Allison sucked and might not make the team. Aint that right Taryn, lol. Looks like both had some of the better camps for their position groups this summer. I will stand by my comments made in April and May that Gilbert will make a big impact and Allison will catch 60 passes at least.

Foot issue, Didn't bulk up enough during the summer. . Had hustle, but couldn't get off blocks. Couldn't bull rush. Still thought he might make it with Mathews comment about" lack of depth". The cuts are what they are so far. Excellent!

Oppy's picture

someone was actually telling you Biegel was better than Gilbert?

Rak47's picture

Indeed, I was informed quite earnestly that Biegel had more potential and was drafted for a reason and Gilbert was not for a reason. I was also informed how rare it is for UDFA to have success in the League and that the only thing holding Biegel back was a foot injury. :-}

Oppy's picture

I was optimistic for Biegel coming into camp, having heard he put on muscle and was healthy. However, It's hard to imagine anyone watching him practice/play during camp thinking he could compete vs. NFL OT's in 2018. He just gets manhandled. Not physical enough. Who knows, maybe he continues to grind and gets it together someday.. but watching Gilbert and Biegel side by side, it's not even close.

Looks like Aaron Rodgers is safely on the 53

Oppy's picture

You definitely win comment of the weekend with this.

Bure9620's picture

Thanks Oppy, my thinking here being if the Packers were to cut Rodgers, we would now have an extra $80 million in dead money. That would be difficult for the franchise. Gute made the right move keeping Rodgers on the 53. ;)

Oppy's picture

You topped yourself, impressive!

Dash Riprock's picture

Boyle, Tonyan and Kumerow all appear to have made the team according to Tom Silverstein. All these three guys I wanted to make it. Good day!!

korbie33's picture

Love it so far except for Donnerson and Martini who should make the practice squad.

Jersey Al's picture

and that's where they belong.

Coldworld's picture

I’d add Thomas and Pankey to the PS.

fthisJack's picture

ILB James Crawford on the 53??? where that come from?

fthisJack's picture

EIGHT WR!

egbertsouse's picture

Rollins on IR?

croatpackfan's picture

¸Yup!

LayingTheLawe's picture

8 wr 4 te 2 active rbs and no fullbacks. if the receivers are all your special teams guys and the tight ends play h back and block in the backfield when needed I guess it can work. Maybe the Packers run game has been so bad this preseason they are just going to go 5 wide and forget the run anyway :)

Bure9620's picture

Have to believe, pending injuries, one of the WRs is released to activate Aaron Jones week 3.

Lare's picture

They'll have to sign a RB off of waivers. Can't go into the season with just two RBs and no FBs.

Oppy's picture

Someone postulated in a different thread that perhaps the Packers release a QB to make space for Jones after week two. They protect a QB from massive waiver exposure today and hope the other 31 teams are settled in enough to not steal a QB in two weeks.

I thought it was an interesting concept and it's the only thing that will keep me from blowing a gasket if the Packers waste 2 roster spots on back up QBs today when we have a number of different players who could actually make an impact on this team in 2018 if they make the 53.

Dash Riprock's picture

Oppy, would you just stop already about the qb's. As much as you believe Gute listens to your advice, he's not going to do it this time. Trust me, when your 3rd qb is your future franchise qb you don't put him on the practice squad so just stop the ridiculous talk about getting rid of Boyle. i suggest you be thankful instead of being bitter. Makes no sense Oppy. We're all on the same side here. Trust Gute when it comes to Boyle. The guy knows what he's doing. Relax.

Oppy's picture

I just can't even.

Thegreatreynoldo's picture

Well, at least Oppy will have all of his gaskets in place for the next 2 weeks or so.

I had an epic rant on APC when TT drafted Richard Rodgers. It is still remembered even today, in part because one of the long-time posters there joined in. I remember having another rant about RR when CHTV was grading each player's season, not sure which year. Just put a little polish on the rant, maybe insert a few memorable lines, and rants can be fun!

Fordham Ram's picture

I was rooting for Josh Hawkins to make the team but those two plays of Pringle catching a bomb and then getting stiff armed by him for a long gain on the kick return had to be his coup de grace'.

MITM's picture

The Packers apparently never got the memo under TT and Capers and now Gute and Pettine that LB depth is vital for a successful 3-4 base. Unless theres additions coming

RunToWin's picture

Clearly there are moves remaining. I can’t see going into week 1 with 2 RBs and such a thin LB corps while retaining 8 WRs. I have confidence that there is more to come that will address this.
