Report: Sam Shields Sustains Possible MCL Injury
According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com:
Per a league source, it’s currently believed Shields has a strained MCL. The official diagnosis will come from an MRI evaluation.
That’s good news for Shields, assuming the injury doesn’t require surgery. For low-to-mid-grade MCL injuries, the rope-like ligament heals itself with rest.
Assuming this isn't a major injury, it's unlikely to have an impact on Shields' upcoming unrestricted free agency.
As noted by Florio, the Packers have until early March to negotiate with Shields. And it's possible they could use the franchise tag on him as well.
UPDATE:
Per league source, MRI shows only a bone bruise for Packers CB Sam Shields, who's due to become a free agent in March.

He tweeted himself it was nothing serious. Hope that's the case.

Really upsetting to watch him leave the field yesterday. Good kid and a good player. Hope you're back with us next year 37.

Sure hope we can keep this kid, what we have as backup is not so good.

I'd hate to use the franchise tag. It's a ton of money and it always leads to a bad swing in the player's attitude.

Bye Sam. It was nice having you as a Packer. I just hope Drew sells you to an AFC team.
