Report: Negotiations Ongoing Between Packers and TE Andrew Quarless

With a lot of uncertainty at the tight end position, the Packers appear to be working on a way to keep Andrew Quarless on the team.

Per Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel,

"Quarless' representative spoke with negotiator Russ Ball at the scouting combine and the two have been in regular contact, How deep their discussions have gone isn't known and it's possible Quarless will hit the open market."

Quarless took over the starting tight end role after Jermichael Finley's season was cut short due to a neck injury.

"Though Brandon Bostick emerged as a receiving threat before being lost for the season with a broken foot, Quarless was the preferred option and finished the season having played 61.8% of the regular season snaps."

The Packers are keeping their options open, though.

"The Packers are expected to take a look at a number of the tight ends who are on the free agent market knowing there's no sure thing with either Finley or Quarless. Among those who will be available are Houston's Garrett Graham, Detroit's Brandon Pettigrew, Buffalo's Scott Chandler and the New York Jets' Jeff Cumberland."

I would like to see Quarless return. He showed he can be effective, and I like Bostick as well..

I would still like to see them draft a TE.

It sounds like Amarro and Seferan-Jenkins are sliding a bit so they could possibly get either in Round 2.

If Ebron were to fall to the Packers, I think there is a good chance that they would draft him.

I would love to see Quarless return. The guy just makes play and catches the ball.

So would you believe me if I told you he had a lower catch %, yards per target, td%, and the identical drop% over the last three seasons as everyone's favorite whipping boy JerMichael Finley? (Hint:He does.)

Your crazy. Quarless isn't a playmaker. He's a decent TE and I want to give him a year to see if he can really take hold of the job. I'm not holding my breath for it but I'll give him a year to see what he can really do. To date he's done next to nothing tho...

Off-Topic: I like Bill Barnwell, but his Packers free agent forecast is a joke.

Likely cut: Mason Crosby? What?!

Signing Anthony Collins of the Bengals as a possible LT of the future....he talks about Sherrod and Bulaga but never mentions Bahktiari? He then mentions moving Collins to guard if Sherrod and Bulaga can stay healthy...while ignoring the fact that the Packers have one of the top guard duos in the league.

I would like the Starks, Dansby and Tillman additions, though.

I would be mildly surprised to see Mason get cut after the year he had last year....but.....he is going to count almost $3.5 million against the cap this year so I wouldn't go so far as to say I would be amazed if the Pack choose to draft a K and dump Mason.
