Raji, Shields and Green Injured During Practice

B.J. Raji, Sam Shields and rookie Alex Green were all injured during Thursday nights practice.

Defensive lineman B. J. Raji, cornerback Sam Shields and rookie running back Alex Green were all injured during Thursday nights practice at Ray Nitschke Field.

Raji limped off the field after going down to the ground on a running play. He was attended to by trainers on the sideline and could be seen trying to walk off whatever was ailing him. He did not return to practice. Head coach Mike McCarthy dubbed the injury an ankle sprain after practice.

Shields injured himself when he fell to the ground after what was described as a spectacular interception. After being helped up by trainers Shields could be seen with an ice pack on his lower back. McCarthy listed the injury as a "hip pointer" when he met with reporters.

In addition to Raji and Shields, rookie running back Alex Green dropped out of practice with a quadriceps injury.

Obviously, it would be a surprise if any of the three played on Saturday night against the Cleveland Browns in the teams first preseason action of 2011. With both Tramon Williams and Charles Woodson running scout team tonight, its expected they will not be playing, meaning the Packers would most likely start Jarrett Bush and Pat Lee at cornerback.

While Bush has had an excellent camp, including what by all accounts was an incredible practice tonight, and is pretty much guaranteed a roster spot, Lee could really help his cause with a strong showing in Cleveland. The third year pro has been unable to stay healthy since being drafted in the second round back in 2008. He did have a strong showing in Super Bowl XLV after being thrust into action in the second half due to an injury to Charles Woodson. But the drafting of Davon House, who had been having a strong camp himself before being injured a few days ago, has put Lee's roster spot in jeopardy.

At least it sounds like the injuries aren't serious. Nothing to write home about...

Loved the JS article on Tori Gurley. But someone please tell Tori Gurley to temper himself & not injure players. When Wood throws his helmet and Tramon decks ANYONE, something is amiss in camp. As a SC resident, I hope Tori rips through the NFL as a Free Agent, and I think he chose well to be in Green Bay, as they will give him the best chance he can get. He definitely has talent.
