Raiders To Hire McKenzie As General Manager

Raiders To Hire McKenzie As General Manager

From Adam Schefter:

Raiders now plan to hire Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie as their next general manager.

McKenzie, who played linebacker for the Raiders from 1985-88, was recommended to the Raiders by ex-Packers general manager Ron Wolf, who got his start in personnel with the late Al Davis. There are many around the league who seem to think McKenzie will try to bring Wolf's son Eliot, the Packers assistant director of player personnel, with him to Oakland.

This news comes on the heels of reports yesterday that John Dorsey, the Packers' director of college scouting, turned down an offer from the Indianapolis Colts to interview for their vacant general manager position.

I hate to lose people but good luck to him.

It'll be exciting to see who takes over his job. And I wonder if Eliot will go with Reggie. Rumors make it sound like he will but his tweet the other day made me could be interpreted as a sign that he wants to stay put.

Or maybe he was just talking about the Dorsey situation.

What exactly does a director of football operations do, and how does the position tie into the GM role?

Any thoughts on what the Packers succession plan is if Ted Thompson should retire aftee his current contract expires?

Should we be worried about the possibility of both McKenzie and Wolf leaving? Is John Dorsey as gifted an evaluator of talent as McKenzie?

Reggie M. seems to be a great guy. Best of luck to him. Go Pack.

Dorsey = your new Director of Football Operations, and heir apparent to TT?

I think so too

Good for Reggie. The Raiders are one of my favorite AFC teams, and I'm interested to see how they fare with a GM who is not named Al. If the Raiders turn it around, it might make Jerry in Dallas think about getting out of the way and hiring a GM, too.

That's a ways off, though. Good luck, Reggie. Thanks for everything.

I just read on PFT that the Chiefs will retain Crennel. Fischer is leaning towards the Rams. If this happens, there is a good chance that Philbin lands in Miami. The Dolphins have a solid defense, offensive line and some playmakers on offense. The only thing they are lacking is a quarterback.
