Poppinga Back In The Mix. Why?

It's become very apparent over the course of the last couple of weeks that the Packers are planning on mixing in Brady Poppinga at the left outside linebacker position.

Good God WHY?

Now, I know Brad Jones needs to hit the weight room in the offseason. He's a bit slight still for the NFL. But the guy has proven that he can more than hold his own on the edge in the running game and offers worlds more rushing the passer. Poppinga, meanwhile, offers the best vertical of those who like to jump on the pile after the play is over.

Look, I get they are trying to rest guys. I understand the rotation when it comes to getting Chillar on the field inside. But taking Jones off the field for anything other than a breather here and there is ridiculous. Poppinga is a big drop off and close to a liability, especially when it comes to rushing the passer.

Poppinga is an absolute liability in coverage and as a rusher. Having him on the field with Bush and/or Bell at the same time scares me....

Brad Jones is going to be a beast after having a full off-season of NFL training to get stronger!!

Could be trying to pad his stats a little for future trade bait.

The premise of this topic assumes that Popp does not have the ability to improve?

Bomdad - he could improve, but the fact is that he's already a vet. Usually the most individual improvement comes from years 1-3. Brad Jones has a higher ceiling, and if he's playing better against the pass and not poorly against the run, why take him out? It'll only stunt his growth.

Maybe they're trying to showcase him for a trade? LOL, I really crack myself up sometimes.

Agreed. The only thing that Poppinga is good for is giving Jones a break every once in a while.

B. Jones is still a rookie with just a few starts under his belt ....... Capers/MM have much, much more info to go on than a few fans watching 'instant replays' over & over & over & then declaring wisdom .........
_____________
Actually, Crosby was 2-2 in FGs last game & Bush had an INT.......... So it would only be natural to dust off Popps...... Gotta have someone to trash...... Enough already .........

Bob McGinn noted that Poppinga played a lot for Jones against the Seahawks mainly because Jones wasn't feeling well.
