GAME PREDICTIONS - 2017 Week 7 Green Bay Packers vs. New Orleans Saints |

---|---|---|---|
Name | Record | Pick | Prediction |
Andrew | 5-1 | N.O. Saints | 27-20 |
A week ago, I would have felt this was a simple one, but with Brett Hundley, not Aaron Rodgers, this becomes trickier. At least we know that the Saints defense is still shaky, though they currently rank 15 in Football Outsiders DVOA metric, which is better than it was much of the last two years. Thing is, Hundley is unproven. So that allows the Saints to focus on an already shaky run game. I'll take Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams and Randall Cobb over the Saints corners but it comes down to how much I trust the backup now under center, which isn't a lot. The Saints are fourth in the NFL in points scored, while an Arron Rodgers led Packers are tenth scoring 24.5 points a game. The Saints allow an average of 23.2. I don't like how these numbers look this week, at all.
|
Andy | 3-3 | N.O. Saints | 38-24 |
I think Brett Hundley and Green Bay will show up just fine on offense, but Dom Capers has a bad history against upper echelon quarterbacks. I don't see that changing Sunday. Brees and Michael Thomas should have big days.
|
Chris P | 4-2 | N.O. Saints | 30-21 |
Hundley will be better this week, he might even give fans a glimmer of hope, but the Packers still lose. The team is too banged up and Drew Brees is too hot right now.
|
Chris W | 4-2 | Green Bay Packers | 24-23 |
This game is going to come down to whether the Packers’ defense can keep New Orleans out of the end zone enough times to win. If they can bow their necks and force field goal attempts rather than allow touchdowns, they'll keep things within reach for Brett Hundley and the offense. Call me crazy, but I think they can do it.
|
Cory | 4-2 | N.O. Saints | 27-23 |
The unknown makes this prediction very difficult. Drew Brees will filet a defense that has been vulnerable. Brett Hundley will play well, but will not match Brees -- even though Kevin King and Davon House are back from injury.
|
David | 4-2 | N.O. Saints | 38-27 |
Much of the attention toward Sunday’s game against the Saints has focused on Brett Hundley in relief of injured Aaron Rodgers, but Dom Capers and the Green Bay defense holds the key. The Packers’ banged up secondary will have its hands full and that’s to say nothing of the Saints’ balanced rushing attack. With too many Green Bay wounded and too many New Orleans weapons, Sunday’s contest will be one where even an effective Hundley will have a hard time keeping up.
|
Elisha | 4-2 | N.O. Saints | 38-24 |
I am less worried about Hundley and the offense than I am about the defense. I don't think Capers' crew will be able to consistently slow down Drew Brees and the high-powered New Orleans offense.
|
Jason | 5-1 | N.O. Saints | 27-17 |
The Packers have to show up on both sides of the ball and I’m not overly confident that both will. I need to see Brett Hundley run the offense and score points and the defense play like they won’t. Too much Brees is just, too much
|
Jersey Al | 5-1 | Green Bay Packers | 24-20 |
I was all about Drew Brees being too much for the banged up Packers secondary until I looked closer at their win over the Lions. Three touchdowns were defensive touchdowns and Brees "only" had 2 TD passes and 186 yds passing. The running game (237 yds between Ingram and Kamarra drove the offense. With run defense a strength, this Packers team has a chance. I'm taking a flyer on the entire team rallying together to show the world they are not just Aaron Rodgers, they are the Green Bay Packers.
|
Michelle | 4-2 | N.O. Saints | 31-20 |
The Saints aren’t as good a team as their 52 points against the Lions might indicate, and if the Packers can prevent a single giveaway, there’s a chance they could win this game. But it’s more likely that, even if the offense looks improved under a game plan designed for Brett Hundley, the Packers defense fails to contain the Saints offense.
|
Ross | 5-1 | N.O. Saints | 28-17 |
I won't predict the Packers beating a competent team without Rodgers until I see it happen. Brees is too much for Capers.
|
Zach | 4-2 | Green Bay Packers | 28-27 |
I’ve talked myself into an unhealthy amount of confidence in Brett Hundley this last week — not so much the wounded team around him. I think they’ll surprise a lot of people considering they’re in much better of a situation than they were four years ago. Drew Brees will be a tough one to match offensively.

Brees will shred Dom’s defense, Saints 35-17.

I like to agree with Jersey Al on this one. But I am too uncertain about the health issues surrounding this Packers team this week. But New Orleans is flat out bad away from home. It's a pick em game. Packers by a field goal.

First of all I hope that if the Packers win the toss that MM does not defer. He should put our offense on the field first and give them a chance to ge the first score even it is a FG. If he gives the ball to N.O. first they could score on their opening drive and put Hundley in a 0-3 or 0-7 hole before he even takes the field. Even if we can get a few first downs before punting we could put the Saints in poor field position and give our defense and offense an early chance. I like the Packers run and quick pass game against the Saints defense on the road. I'm also hoping that our defense plays like it has something to prove which it does. I like the Pack 23 - 17. Thanks, Since '61

Defering sucks, and unless your the Broncos is silly. Why would you want to increase the probability of the other team scoring first and being behind in the race of points with a tired defense. The only good reasons I can think of is you want to be the first to use our Offensive half time adjustments or you want to give your defense an extra long half time rest. I still think those are no way better than having a better chance to play with a lead.

Hundley will get better and the roster will (in theory) get healthier.
That won't happen until after the bye. This is a terrible match up at a terrible time. N.O. rolls.
38-21. :(

I’m more concerned about the D than I am Hundley. That said, the Saints are a lousy road team. Let’s go w the Pack, 28-24.

The Line is Holding steady at NO -4 -4 1/2. This would normally be an Automatic Loss. I didn't play the game, only because I see there is 100% chance of Rain Forecast. I wanted GB & the Over, but the Rain scared me away. I think the rain could equalize the game, so I'll pick GB to Cover the 4 1/2, & maybe even pull it out. I agree with Since'61. Don't Defer!! Take the ball & if nothing else, keep Breeze on the sidelines. Without having more info on who's playing & who's not, I think GB has a shot here. I like going against the money, but with +4 1/2 I'm Not Convinced it's on NO. I'll give Hundley his Chance here.

That line is to get more people to bet on the Packers because Vegas wants even money on both teams. Vegas doesn't care who wins they're not in the business of guessing.

There are a few surprises in the staff picks. Mostly that a majority of them feature at least three touchdowns for the packers. I think the first half will be close enough to give us hope while in the second half, when the defense is utterly gassed, will break our hearts. 42-17 Saints.

My prediction...

My expectations...
Rain game and Packer team shows up with a bad attitude. They will run to daylight and victory.
Aaron Jones and Monty have big days.
Bennett stops dropping the damn ball and becomes a security blanket for Hundley.
Hundley runs and short passes the Pack to victory keeping the ball out of Breese's hands enough for the depleted Packer D to stay competitive.
How about this long shot... NO MORE INJURIES OCCUR THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE GAME FOR THE PACKERS!!!

oh yeah...
with the rain and a run heavy offense, it would be really nice to have a Davante Mays sighting...

this would be a great GREAT point except for one thing
Jones did not EARN his way on the field, injuries gave it to him
the opportunities and snaps had nothing to do with on field production it was entirely and complete draft ranking
no injuries no Jones it does not get much easier to figure than that
was Junes hurt?
so no Mays
or as those with the teddie brown nose going on, it is POTENTIAL not draft spot, it is ????? not production in practice
funny how year after year and position after position that keeps happening......

I will say only one thing:
Thank you, Al!
Why? Because you are not throwing spear in the bush. You still believe in this team (as I do). We might be wrong, but we both (and some others, too) see the potential this team has.

Actually, Corey Behnke is the ultimate optimist. I'm more of a realist but I do go off the rails from time to time. This is one of them...
