Packers vs. Bears - 2017 Game Predictions from CheeseheadTV.com

 GAME PREDICTIONS - 2017 Week 4

Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears

Name Record   Pick Prediction
Andrew 3-0 Green Bay Packers 24-10
The Chicago Bears surprised everyone last week when they upset the Pittsburgh Steelers in Chicago. Should the Packers be worried? No, not really. Last weekend was an odd one (the Packers know that after their struggle against Cincinnati) and the win for the Bears was more about the Steelers playing down to Chicago than Chicago suddenly being relevant.  As long as the Packers stay focused and we see second half from last week Rodgers earlier in this game, Green Bay should win.
Andy 3-1 Green Bay Packers 16-13
I fully expect an ugly Thursday night showdown with Green Bay being so beat up. This comes down to the kickers and it’s advantage Crosby and Green Bay.
Chris P 2-1 Green Bay Packers 31-14
The Packers will have to overcome two injured tackles again, but they still have Aaron Rodgers and that will be enough to beat the lowly Bears
Chris W 2-1 Green Bay Packers 23-17
Green Bay's thin offensive line makes it difficult on Rodgers and the run game, but the defense picks them up by seizing on a couple Mike Glennon mistakes. The Packers survive and get a 10-day rest.
Cory 2-1 Green Bay Packers 31-20
The return of Mike Daniels makes this game very tough for the Bears. The moment the Packers stop the 1-2 punch of Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen, the game is over. Mike Glennon can barely win a game with help, he can’t win a game by himself.
David 2-1 Green Bay Packers 24-20
The situation at offensive tackle could be dire for Green Bay against a Chicago front seven that's the strength of that team. Beyond keeping Aaron Rodgers upright, limiting the damage of Jordan Howard/Tarik Cohen is crucial. If the Packers get over their turnover drought, a Thursday home game against Mike Glennon just feels like the right time.
Elisha 3-0 Green Bay Packers 34-17
Much like last week, injuries could keep this game closer than it should be. I'd love to see McCarthy call for some rhythm passing to get the offense rolling, but that's probably a pipe dream. Nevertheless, the Bears still suck, so the Packers should move to 3-1.
Jason 3-0 Green Bay Packers 28-21
The Bears come in off of a big win and make a game of it but the Packers hang on for another tight win at home. The Packers offense gets going early and the defense tightens up just in time to save the win.  The Packers log their first and long-overdue interception of the season and have Bears fans crying loudly for Trubisky time.
Jersey Al 3-0 Green Bay Packers 19 - 13
Good thing the Packers are at home and good thing Randall Cobb is returning, otherwise, I would have to pick the Bears. Packers are down to their 5th and sixth string offensive tackles, which is pretty unfathomable. Hoping and praying the defense and Mason Crosby come up big.
Michelle 2-1 Green Bay Packers 20-14
We don't know a lot about this Packers team yet; three weeks into the season, it could surprise us—for better or for worse. The Packers have to get the edge here, because they're at home in primetime, but Bears weapons Tarik Cohen and Jordan Howard could make life miserable for a middling defense. This is the Packers' opportunity to put together a complete, convincing win from start to finish.
Ross 3-0 Green Bay Packers 31-17
I had a high level of concern for this game going in, I don't anymore.  Chicago scores by running the ball and can't pass it.  Green Bay stuffs the run and gives up big passing plays.  It's not a great matchup for the Bears.
Zach 2-1 Green Bay Packers 27-14
Aaron Rodgers won’t have to throw 56 passes this time around, he might not even go over 40. The Packers will find a sense of balance Thursday night with their running game and pull away from the Bears in the second half.

Who cares about the action on the field.

This is the NFL 2017, who is going to have the best protest?

Gotta think Marty B has been cooking up something all week.

Were there any recent hurricanes someone can protest about?

Oh, and make sure if you're attending the game you follow Marty and ARod's instruction to lock arms in support of the players protests during the anthem.

But under no circumstances should any Packer fan put a hand across their heart because that would mean you defied the Packers directive to lock arms and it would not be "unifying."

Given the situation at OT, where they might be starting someone that has only been on the team for 3 days, I think this game could be a coin flip. The bears gave Atlanta all they could handle. So I think the bear defense might be fairly solid. Have to hope that Bak can start at LT.

The Bears have Glennon at QB. Based on that alone I could never pick them , no matter who else would be playing for them. And I'm sorry, but there also is not a single NFL caliber WR on that roster. Our PS guys are better then their starting WRs... Now their RBs are solid, but come on...

We just discussed on CheeseheadRadio and this was pointed out: "The Packers have won 10 of the last 12 against the Bears. However, both Bears wins have come in Lambeau Field during prime time games."

Nervous?

You should be A LOT more nervous about this game because the Bears play reasonable defense, and can really run the ball. Not to mention the fact it's a rivalry game, the Bears have played us close the last few years in Lambeau, and we have major injuries that are going to impact the protection packages. I actually predict we will lose this game.

Packers win by 1 and Bears don't lose by 13, if the the difference is between 1 and 13, both bets win.
You can move the line 6 pts, even the over/under totals, your return is lower because of the swing in points.
Packers-7 becomes -1
Bears +7 becomes +13
Over/under is 45 becomes either over 39/under 51

1+1 is 2
Self explanatory.

Hardly self explanatory in a general sense. Not all of us spend time in, around or dealing with establishments that allow gambling. You're clearly the outlier here, I'd cease trying to make the majority feel dumb

How many shows, podcasts, etc, talk about NFL and don't mention the point spread. One does not need to be a gambler to know what a point spread is and what adding/subtracting 6 comes to. I'm not trying to make the majority feel dumb, they have succeeded on their own via acting so.
Ex:
" I'm sure the Packers will score more than -1."

If that isn't playing a fool to simply act one via words, what do you call that. Is there a chance the Packers could score less than or equal -1. Sheesh

Don't know, maybe you're just having a bad day, but you're being rather condescending and making a very incorrect assumption that the vast majority of us here have any knowledge of betting beyond just a simple point spread or over/under. Morons? I think not. If I started spouting about the inner workings of the TCP/IP networking protocol without any background explanation and you had no clue what I was saying, would that make you a moron? You need to stop and think about the attitude you are displaying. I don't like it.

jasonperone, With all Due Respect, & I'll speak for myself here. I've tried to enlighten anyone who would listen, to the influence that Gambling has on the NFL. The problem is: You Refuse to listen, because as Taryn has told you, Point Spreads, & the word "Gambling" IS NOT MENTIONED on the programs you watch!!. There is a reason for that. Anyone associated with College or Pro Football is PROHIBITED from talking about it. This includes all Coaches, Players, & your Local Sports Casters. They LOSE their jobs if they do. Most of you don't know that, but it is True. They have to be Very Careful before they Criticize an Official or a Game. That's how much Power is behind the NFL. The BEST KNOWN Secret in the NFL is Gambling, but they don't want the average fan like you to know about it. Why???

Finwiz, I didn't say that, but Las Vegas comes out every week with a line that fools the majority of betters. I'm not saying it is staged, but Las Vegas is the driving force behind the NFL. That Is The Secret, that most of you don't know or care about. Believe it if you want to, or don't. It makes No Difference to me. There are Millions of Dollars bet every week on the games. I heard anywhere from $6 to $10 Billion on the SB alone. No it's not like the WWE at all. It's Much More Sophisticated than that.

I don't Believe Oswald Fired even 1 shot. I'd love to debate that sometime with you.

Won't get ANY debate out of me on Oswald - I agree with your initial comment 100%.

When you say Las Vegas drives the NFL, that implies they essentially tell the teams to get on/off the gas at their (Vegas) discretion. I can't buy that. Are they in it together to share information on teams and make money for both parties? Possibly - but to what degree.

I'll just say this, and maybe now I do fall into the category you described below, LVT: Gambling likely has a hand in sports, but I don't think it's a major as many want us to believe. It's just hard to believe that there hasn't ever been a major major whistle blower who drew back the curtain on this either during or after their playing career. Sports and betting have been around a LONG time. This level of control over that many people over such a long period of time is darn near close to religion. It's at the very least debatable.

How many betters were the other way. How about GB -7 1/2 over Cinn. How many betters were on Cinn, besides Me & Taryn. I don't know how it works? It Works!!

Finwitz, It doesn't work that way. Las Vegas makes Money for Las Vegas. Nobody Else. The teams have NOTHING to do with it. I wish I knew how they do it, but I don't. The Fact is Las Vegas is in the business of Making Money. The NFL is a CASH COW for them. They are Very Good at what they do. They DON'T LOSE, somehow THEY WIN. Like I said, a number of times. They Pay someone or a group an awful lot of money to come out with a line every week, that has a lot of mistakes. How long would you have your job if you made so many mistakes. You Explain It. I can't.

LVT, my only reponse and issue was with Taryn making it sound like everyone should understand gambling terminology. I am not refusing to listen here. I understand that gambling is a thing and likely has a hand in the pot in pro sports. jasonperone, You're a Good Guy. I like Taryn, obviously because she bets the games every week. I must admit, she confuses me at times as well, but I just like the way she talks. I considered myself as good as anyone until I ran into Taryn. I admit sometimes when she talks, it's over my head, but I can understand much of what she says. I can understand your point of not understanding the terminology. Don't take it personal. I envy anyone with education. I'm sure Taryn & I don't agree on things, but I believe we could get to the same pick for different reasons. I guess I've admitted it before. I'm Married, but that Mask, & the way she talks Turns Me On. I don't think she means to Belittle anyone who doesn't know her Gambling Terminology. Hell, I don't get some of it.

Hey Tarynfor12, I've played with books, but never had this bet. I understand it now. It's a neat bet. What does it pay for $100. Basically you are betting GB Wins by 1 - 13, or 2 -12. If Chicago Wins you lose correct? If GB wins by more than 12 or 13 you lose, correct? They used to have (Maybe they still do) in the Casino, what they called "Killer Parlays" which operated something like this, & Paid out a Ton if you won. Those were all but impossible to win on. I've never seen your Teaser in the Casino, but then again, I've never looked. What is the Payoff? I feel kind of foolish not ever running across this one?

You can play these teasers at casinos, it's a silver card at Stations or where Covers sets the numbers. But, I believe you can do this still at the Westgate as a direct bet, no teaser parley card?????
You likely get a 4-1 return on a 3 bet teaser card.
I have played and hit a few times picking ten with a 15-1 pay back. When the numbers look good I drop a 50 on it and get 750+50.
It's not easy which is why it's more a tool to help handicap for me and my system....
Try a $5 card and pick 6 bets for fun.

Hey Tarynfor12, I feel like I can still pick winners. I would hate to lose any of them on the Top End. If I do anything at all today, I think it'll be a Reg Parlay, small $25 -4. For what it's worth? As you can see, there are 3 games where the line has moved 2 or more pt's. That's been very good to me over the years. You may want to consider them. Good Luck to you as well.

I'd be very hesitant to predict a win based on past wins. Just too many changes in personnel, injuries, matchups and luck. I agree there are some logic behind it; Roger's familiarity and past exploits, but prefer analyzing on current assets and more recent performance.

I also cringe when anyone dismisses a team; 'no WRs to speak of and its just Mike Glennon who can't beat anyone'. A lot of no-name WRs, RBs and QBs have come to life playing the packers (but please don't ask me to list them which I can't).

But all this to say, I expect the packers to win even with 9.75 players on offense.

The Packers offense will be limited due to the OL injuries but the return of Cobb is a positive sign for the offense. I see Rodgers getting the ball out quickly and also utilizing the moving pocket to buy time.

Our defense needs to stuff the Bears run game and get pressure on Glennon. The Bears will be facing Josh Jones and the Nitro package for the first time. I'm looking for Jones and Brooks to make an impact again.

I like the Pack 27-10. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

I think you're right on: Packers will have to roll #12 and move the pocket to keep him clean. It limits how much of the field he can use, but it will keep him upright. Screen passes, too, please?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Packers play a little more straight-up 3-4 than they normally would this week. Howard is a typical between-the-tackles guy, but he's got a gimpy shoulder. Cohen is the wild card...he can flat-out play, and he's great in space. After that, they're poor. The only reason they beat Pittsburgh (and I watched that whole game) was that the Steelers handed them 17 points on TOs and miscues. Roethlisberger is not good away from Heinz Field. I don't understand that.

It surprised me a bit that no-one picked the Bears to win.

With the number of Packers injuries and who they involve, along with the Bears steadily getting better, they have a chance, even at Lambeau.

I expect it to be close, whichever way it goes.

The Bears played Atlanta a lot better than the Packers did and beat a good team in the Steelers. With the OT injury situation and Daniels/Perry also likely out, it's not a reach to think the Bears have a chance to win this game. Still going with the Packers, though. Hoping Cobb has a big game catching quick passes from Rodgers and the defense throttles the Bears.

I agree with you Jersey Al - this is no give me. Yes, they did play Atlanta close in Chicago (off a fast track where the Falcons fly) and they did beat Pittsburgh in Chicago in OT, they also got blown out playing the Bucs in Tampa Bay.

The Packers need to find a way to defend the House and get a win, then heal up during their mini-bye (10 days) before traveling to Dallas for another important Conference game.
