Packers tried to sign DT Brian Price off of Browns practice squad

-- The Green Bay Packers have yet to make a move to replace injured defensive lineman Muhammad Wlikerson, who is out for the rest of the season with a significant leg injury.

However, according to Jim Owczarski of PackersNews.com, they tried.

The Packers were stifled in a failed attempt to bring one of their former players, defensive tackle Brian Price, back to their active roster to pair with the four other bodies sans Wilkerson.

Price was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Packers in 2016 but spent most of the season between appearing in his lone regular-seaosn game and making his home on the practice squad.

Since then, Price has spent time with the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders -- and undergone a knee surgery that ended his 2017 season -- before landing with the Cleveland Browns' practice squad just last week.

The minimum practice squad salary for a player is $7,600 a week, but the Browns upped Price's pay to $37,058 in an effort to keep him in Cleveland and combat the Packers' efforts to solidify their defensive line.

It's up to general manager Brian Gutekunst how he wants to handle the free roster spot wants he places Wilkerson on injured reserve.

The primary reason why they've yet to do so throughout the duration of the week is likely because they haven't found a player to replace him with. Price would've presumably been it.

For now, the Packers will rely on Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry and Montravius Adams for their rotation along the defensive line.

I just hope we do not have an injury early during the Buffalo game. Knowing that we "tried" to sign Price doesn't solve the depth problem for THIS Sunday. Would think Gute or Pro Personnel Department had Plan B and C ready. Seems like its too late for this week. Maybe they have something else cooking that can't be completed until next week.

PackfanNY, IMO, I think if the DL suffers an injury during the game Plan B would be using extra lineBackers and/or big Mike's favorite Plan C - instead of the Nickel or Dime it will be The Dozen Package - all defensive backs minus the one Mike at for breakfast...(TIC)
You never know who they are working on getting...IMO I think agents this time of year start asking for a lot since there is a definitive need. That slows the process down. Have faith my friend...

Sardog, the use of extra linebackers or the dozen package is exactly what I fear. I don't think we need to see more of Fackrell. I just don't think either of those are a solution. I guess let's hope our guys stay healthy and that they have something better in mind than in jumping at currently available options. I just don't want to come up short on gameday and have this cost us a game.

So he opted to stay on Cleveland's practice squad rather than be on the 53-man roster for the Packers? That's.....an interesting choice.

I can only assume he will make more money on their practice squad with the raise they gave him, just guessing.
But his potential to get a bigger contract will be a huge cost.

Packers tried for Browns practice Squad DL Brian Price. Browns thwarted the Packers by giving him a raise from $7K a week to $37K a week to stay on the practice squad. Yes, a $30K a week raise...So they are paying him equal to a low end player minimum ($500k a season/prorated). Cowboys also tried getting him twice. The Raiders had him on waivers earlier this year but cut him early last week. Hence he re-signed with the Browns.

IMO sounds like Dorsey and Wolf, now at the Browns, didn't want their old team to have him. Also what does his agent add to the mix???

You're right Idiot Fan, that's very interesting. You would think that the Packers could have given him more than $37,000 a game to be on their active roster. Green Bay isn't the draw it used to be for players.

To be honest has it ever been a hot draw? With FO counting pennies and GB being not a hot spot for outside dollars (endorsements), its never been high on FA radar.

To say that " it's never been high on FA radar is crap. And i didn't call it a HOT draw Either, Chris I'm talking about the draw it was when Wolf was in charge. He brought Reggie. That's why they got Santana Dotson, Kieth Jackson, Sean Jones, and Andre Rison and others to come to Green Bay. If you're try to say that players haven't wanted to play with Brett Favre and Aaron Rogers, for the lack of endorsements is Bull Shit. Take your chill pill, Chris.

I hope you realize you are talking a period of almost 30 years.
If you haven't noticed, only AR & CM3 are getting the endorsement these days, no one else.
I think you need to take a "get real pill".
Ask your mama, maybe she has a clue.

Samson, if you think that half of the Giants or Jets are getting huge endorsement contracts you're out of your mind. You don't see Joe Blow offensive tackle doing State Farm commercials because they're members of the LA Rams. STARS get endorsements, it doesn't matter who they're playing for. Clown!

I’m sure they’ll find a DL or 2....the really don’t have a choice unless they are just going to fill the field with linebackers....which I would hate to see...
Saw enough of that crap under Capers.
