Packers trade Reggie Gilbert to Titans

The former undrafted free agent recorded 2.5 sacks as a Packer.

Brian Gutekunst is starting to wheel and deal, sending Reggie Gilbert to the Tennessee Titans for a reported 7th round pick.

The former undrafted free agent out of Arizona spent 2016 and most of 2017 on the practice squad, until appearing in two games at the end of 2017. He finishes his Packers career with 2.5 sacks.

Trade: Packers are dealing LB Reggie Gilbert to the Titans for a seventh-round pick, per sources.

There are lots of Reggie Gilberts out there...and all of them would be 5th on the OLB depth chart for the Packers.

Is a good player. Had a sack two weeks ago against the Raiders. Was also money last year when the Packers desperately needed some pass rush.

I like the move from Gute. Would have been a good backup, but wouldn’t have gotten much snaps otherwise. Already building up draft capital for 2020, I like it.

Considering he was one of the only guys putting up sacks last year, and had one this preseason against the Raiders. Watch Gilbert make the Pro Bowl now.

Why do people want to get rid of Taylor so badly? He is starter quality for only $3m. Depth is good. What happens if Turner and Bulaga both go down and you dealt Taylor? Then you have Bakhtiari, Jenkins, Linsey, McCray?, and Light? Rough.

Because they don’t seem to think Baluga will miss time or that a guard will get injured or do think that Patrick is almost as good. I give it as much credence as I give that belief.

The Packers have been systematically pushing Taylor off the roster since OTAs. Writers, fans, etc. have been questioning his fit in the new offense from the time LaF was hired. IF (all caps) they have a player that they like as much or better as a backup who comes more cheaply, trading him makes perfect sense. He has significant trade value if they can find a partner.

Denver.... Taylor would be a nice upgrade at G in Denver. Risner is a stud but they have Don Barclay competing in Denver, that should tell you everything you need to know about the other Guard position. Their depth is also non-existent.. DENVER is the trade partner...

Yes, Taylor is tradable. However, unless it’s for a player that brings us an equal upgrade, losing your most experienced G and arguably your current second best guard means that when your back up is needed there is a considerable step down in quality. Patrick is OK, but he is t Taylor or Jenkins and he is not mobile either.

Given that this season depends upon Rodgers, losing Taylor for a draft pick would be a significant net loss unless it’s a 1 or 2 perhaps (which I strongly doubt). Protect your QB. Remember that Injuries happen. No!

Haven’t seen much from him. Certainly not bowled over, but I do agree that he is a better fit than Gilbert was this year. Jones has flashed more since his arrival for me.

I think that they must really like Roberts for the future though. He could have been waived at anytime but they have hung on to him knowing that his surgery meant a long term layoff. He missed all mini camp too. They did give him the lion’s share of guaranteed money issued to UDFAs

A mid-7th round pick can help maneuver a 6th round pick into a player you really like and want.

I agree. Gilbert much better than a 7th rounder. One of the only Packers linebackers to have a sack in the preseason and also one of the only players last year that was dependable in pass rush. Watch Reggie Gilbert have career high numbers now.

He was much better than that. Look for him to have career high numbers now. just like Damarious Randall did as a safety last year in Cleveland. Don't know why the Packers couldn't have put him back to his original position. He played great last year.

This seemingly opens up a roster spot for an extra DB or ILB. I could see Chandon Sullivan making the team before a 5th OLB like Randy Ramsey, who could easily make it thru waivers to the practice squad.

4 OLBs, three of whom move around to DE is not enough for injuries or freshness.

A gute move but don't be foolish and trade Taylor. The franchise must stay protected and we finally have a decent OL group, no need to mess with that. Obtaining a decent ILB isn't worth it. We can make do there but the OL must stay solid.

any discussion about moving Crosby is idiotic. i feel almost as strong about keeping a quality O-lineman in Taylor; honestly makes me wonder what Gutey felt when Sitton and Lang were let go--He's a company man who salutes and that attitude landed him the GM job. If it were tecnically true Taylor may not fit in MLF's offense, then and only then should be be moved but hopefully for another veteran player @ a position need for us. Last, i sure hope basically the sameQB playing goes down in the Chef game, so that ole Boyle gets the backup job and the third year player Kizer gets to try the free market. i do not dislike Kizer, i just think he ought to be better by now. Boyle is just as good now as a newer player and likely has higher potential than Kizer. It appears Kizer has topped out.

What an insanely stupid and clueless front office. Reggie Gilbert just had a sack against the Raiders when nobody else put up anything. He also played good last year when the Packers couldn't buy a sack. Another dumb move from the Packers. The pass defense will be the Achilles heel this year again and Aaron Rodgers will be making the coaching staff and Mark Murphy look good like he has since day one.
