Packers Stock Report Week 10: Getting Back on Track

Throughout the course of a 16 game season every playoff team is bound to have a clunker or two.  The difference between contenders and pretenders is how the contending teams respond to adversity.  The Packers showed yet again, that they are a legitimate playoff contender by the way they bounced back against a pretty solid Panther team.  The offensive line got it together and controlled the line of scrimmage, the passing game made just enough plays, and the defense held up at crunch time.

Buy, Buy, Buy

1. Kenny Clark:

Hopefully, Sunday's performance is an indication that Kenny Clark is starting to get healthy.  In my opinion, Clark was the key cog in getting pressures and sacks on Kyle Allen.  Clark was directly responsible for ten pressures of his own which lead to rushed throws, incomplete passes, and a key redzone turnover.  With a full two weeks of rest, Kenny could be near full strength for the final 6 games of the season which will improve the Packers run defense and make their pass rush even more dangerous.

2. Adrian Amos:

Adrian Amos had a nose for the ball in Sunday's victory over the Panthers.  Even though he was not directly responsible for the redzone interception, he was in the right place at the right time and made a play on the ball which allowed Tramon Williams to ultimately make the interception that helped change the outcome of the game.

3. Aaron Jones:

Aaron Jones is just having an all-world season for the Packers.  Every time the offense needs a big play; Aaron Jones has been there to deliver.  Jones delivered again on Sunday with a 13 carry 93-yard performance and added three more touchdowns to his career high total.  Through the first ten games of the season, Aaron Jones has 943 scrimmage yards and 14 total touchdowns.  I believe that another monster primetime performance (against San Francisco) would probably bring legitimacy his case for NFL MVP.

Player who is seeing his stock on the decline (To my surprise):

1. David Bakhtiari:

Bakhtiari has had his share of struggles throughout the course of this season.  Whether it has been getting beat on a one on one assignments, failing to open up a hole in the run game, or committing a penalty at an inopportune time, Bakh has just been a touch off this season.  What jumped out at me in making this assessment was the fact that Bakhtiari is among the league's leaders in penalties this season with 11.  In order for the Packers to be firing on all cylinders, Bakhtiari needs to elevate his game going into December in January.

I think Rodgers needs to look inward as much as anyone and stop the 3rd down show off bombs
Hit the guy short and open to sustain drives always
STOP THE HARD COUNTS AND DELAY OF GAMES
Besides talking to the team ask hard questions to Lafluer and Gutey about why we can’t stop the run and why special teams continue to be embarrassing

Not too sure you're right. Roger's judgement is what makes him what he is.
Does he find himself on the wrong end of decisions he would like to have back? Yes. To judge his whole body of work this year, just look at the won/loss column.

It’s not a judgement of his whole body of work
It’s about getting better and making the team better
And looking inward at himself to correct his own mistakes
Win or lose!

I think Rodgers does that constantly and he has owed up to his poor play after more than one game. He's not perfect and he has off games, but he's overall playing like one of the top QBs in the league.

Is Jones our MVP?

I remember a very good Packer team losing to a bad Indy team 38-3. . So yeah , stuff happens.

This is a good team, but it's not good enough to win without playing well. It's time to tighten things up.

It's the NFL. Nobody is good enough to win without playing well. There are no unbeaten teams, either. Of course they have things to "tighten up" but b/t injuries and the bye coming a couple weeks after mid-season, they are holding up pretty darn well. For the NFL.

Yes it was a total 180 from the shit show a week ago, 8-2 is awesome, my over the total of 9 wins ticket has been guaranteed as predicted but I wouldn't remove the sell option from speed dial just yet.

Rodgers penchant for deep and unnecessary throws can become an issue, MLF giving away points in the name of team building can bite us big time in the wrong game, and again a one game appearance from Graham has many forgetting he'll likely disappear again for numerous games.

The fact that this team on defense can be exposed to radiation levels of burning cannot be overlooked as like the offensive water gush being turned off as quick and easy as the touching of the kitchen faucet lever.

Hopefully the bye week is dedicated to easing the defensive burns and the offensive water flow is more a steady gush than a drizzle in a drought.

The deep passes Rodgers threw were well defended otherwise they would have been big gains and more , then nobody would be complaining, my concern is the middle linebacker position , I don’t think the answer is on the 53 this year , would have liked to see Ty Summers but I guess Pettine doesn’t think so.

We have Martinez and that's about it. Not going to change this year. Campbell can definitely help and he did help on Sunday. It s a position that often only has 1 player on the field. That player is gonna be Martinez until he leaves in the off season.

We need MVS to get back on track The arsenal of weapons; just can't be Jones and Adams. Trickery? Without another premium WR, the field shrinks. It's time MVS bounces back.

Given he only had 11 snaps on Sunday, MVS is obviously struggling with the knee and ankle injuries. As we learned in Davante Adams' second season, that kind of injury makes it really tough to come off the line and in and out of breaks. But Lazard and even Kumerow are stepping up and making some key first down catches and more.

I'm holding on to Bak's stock. He's been playing hurt but still doing an excellent job of protecting Rodger's blindside which is job #1. I'm not happy about the penalties but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until I see him play after he has had a chance to rest and hopefully recover during the bye week.

I gave Amos a game ball on the "Game Balls, Lame Calls" article because Amos made some nice stops against the run and played solidly in pass defense including the tipped pick that went to Twill. He has quietly had a very solid season for the Packers and he has solidified the backend of our defense while simultaneously allowing Savage to develop at his position. Excellent FA signing by Gute.

Looking forward to the stretch run. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

I suspect the injury is the limiting factor. It's not like the guy quit trying or forgot how to play.

We've kept our uniforms fairly clean and have done some good Lambeau leaps. The Packers have exceeded my expectations. If the Packers can continue to execute, stay healthy, stay focus and consistent they can can go far.

The special teams is still a real concern.

No more 4th down TD attempts. Give the best shot on 3rd down and if a no go, then put up the 3 on the scoreboard. Execution in the red zone is crucial for our defense and offense.

Go Pack Go.

This is a one and done team if they make the playoffs which they probably will but as a wildcard. Vikings are going to win the division they are a stronger team than the Packers for sure.
Rogers just does not see the field like he used to and his ego gets In the way on third downs as he constantly throws deep when he just needs short yards to extend drives.
Our defense is slipping back to suck mode. Can't stop anybody since the Cowboys game. Secondary is horrible and we can't stop the run ...it's hang on for dear life and hope that Rogers has one good drive left him, game after game. Just incredible that we are 8-2 at this point. Although I think the early wins were indicative of a very good and strong team.
But like I mentioned since the Cowboys game this team has slipped badly.

Congrats, you have to be one of the most negative posters here. If it's what your shooting for, you're a success, also a huge troll.

Clark's performance was to some extent expected. I suggested that he would feast against Paradis, and noted that Van Roten and Trai Turner wouldn't overly bother him either. However, Clark really exceeded any reasonable expectation with 10 pressures per PFF.

Aaron Jones' performance was to some extent expected. Carolina has given up huge chunks on the ground to everyone. Still, it was a nice performance. Davante Adams was averaging 92 yards per game, so his 118 yards is kind of expected as well, but it was a very good performance nonetheless.

Amos was a nice bonus. Jamaal Williams and Jenkins deserve a mention. Za'Darius Smith should be on the list (14 pressures per OLB coach Mike Smith). So should Preston Smith, but perhaps the Smiths are almost givens.

This might be minutiae, but Sternberger showing he could block makes me think he is very promising. I really thought he looked physically much smaller than the other TEs in TC. Time will tell but so far, so good. LaFleur said he has put in some plays for Sternberger, which is a compliment for a rookie playing his first couple games now.

Up until this season I would agree on Rodgers regressing. However...

This is the weakest receiving group he has ever had by a mile. We have Adams and then pretty much everyone else is an undrafted JAG and the tight ends are significantly past their best. Yet for large periods of the season he has still carried the team which is ridiculous given the resources poured into defence.

Draft pick after draft pick has gone into defence. Expensive free agents, top end pash rushes, high pick corners, plus we have a stud DT.

Rodgers should be in the MVP discussion. He really should I mean we had Geronimo, Lazard and Sheppard as the top 3 receivers at one point and he was still carrying the team.

Re the long bombs and hard counts. Not a massive fan of the long bombs but you need the threat of them to make short passes easier. Same with hard counts its not about the penalty, its about slowing down the pass rush.

Those last-second snaps and obnoxious hard counts hurt us more than the opposing team. Getting a delay of game coming out of a time-out was Rodgers trying to outthink everyone again. He's put his ego aside, for the most part, this year but it still rears its ugly head too often. Rodgers has regressed, his deep throws are underthrown and he doesn't scare anyone as much scrambling because he doesn't have Cobb, Jordy, Driver, Jennings to find the open space. Allison shouldn't be benched he should be cut. MVS should sit. Martinez, unfortunately, and inexplicably, has the respect of the team and coach so his awful play is excused. He rarely plugs a hole, can't cover anyone and is generally just pile jumping in true AJ Hawk fashion. Summers should be given an opportunity to play some snaps to see what we've got. He's faster than Martinez and I think can ultimately be a better player. It will also help decide whether to re-sign Martinez, which hopefully they don't. We're ten games in and we all can see clearly where the weaknesses are; run D, WR, TE., being most glaring. MLF needs to show he can analyze a problem and make tough calls. Try something different instead of thinking all we need do is improve execution. It's not always schemes, more often players. Give some snaps to Summers, Jake, find a big ugly for the middle of the line... it's time.
