Montravius Adams is in the doghouse with just 6 snaps. Keke got 15. Fackrell (28) still getting more snaps than Gary (12). I didn't realize Kumerow played. MVS still down on snaps. I don't understand why Allison got slightly more snaps than Lazard. I suppose someone has to play WR. Better but still too many snaps for Clark.

Yes. If we haven't yet flipped Lazard and Allison snaps we will do so after this game. Well we should anyway. Allison did have that huge catch but Lazard was 3 for 3 and all where big.

Seems to me Gary has the same problem as at Michigan: he’s a man without a position. They thought he was an OLB, but he’s really not. Neither is he a defensive lineman. Too small for that (there’s only one Aaron Donald).

I’m going to say this guy could lose 10 pounds and play ILB. The blitz opportunities there are intriguing.

I agree he may not be an OLB. I would rather see him gain 15 - 20 pounds and become a D-lineman. Despite his lack of weight he was a good run defender at Michigan and the Packers need a good run stuffer on the D-line. Whether ILB or D-line, he needs to move because he will not be getting many snaps behind the Smiths over the next three plus years.

If we use the Nick Perry as an example of drafting a player that will never be what he was drafted to be...OLB...Gary has 6 more years which includes an extension to figure it out...or not.

#12 pick for a run-stuffer? That doesn’t seem like a good deal. Question is, how the heck do you put his athletic skills to use? I’m sensing Spriggs 2.0.

Clark is essentially a run stuffer and we picked him highly as well. Run stuffers aren't glamorous, but they are needed. I would rather have Gary as a starting run stuffer than a backup OLB. Unfortunately your point about Spriggs 2.0 is uncomfortably prescient.

Once again at the bottom of the defense list, that's a first, second, and two third round picks getting less than 20% of the snaps. Time for a better way to evaluate defensive talent in Packerland--that's how to get over the hump and reach the Super Bowl.

Yes, but historically the first round is strewn with busts, much more value in second round. I'll concentrate on the positive, 1st rounder Savage who we got for allowing Saints to draft Davenport. He was close to a bust last year ,but has shown improvement this year.

Taryn, most of those guys are playing for teams that’ll win be in the top 15 next year, too. Detroit took the mighty Hock and is in last place in the division and that isn’t the only example.

MVS still battling that high ankle. Has no cutting ability on field, amazing he is playing at all. Lazard has earn his snaps for his all around play on field. Tony Brown was inactive along with Redman and two other DB. Talk about going off a cliff, from core player in secondary to inactive. One step away from being cut. Pettine must really be hosed at him...

Nice to see Pettine changing who is getting playing time based on performance and giving some players a rest. Clark albeit still a lot but is down from the amount he was playing. Martinez got some rest as well. Situational players must step up for us to make a deep run. All 53 are needed especially at this time of the year!

Baring a dramatic turnaround I don't see Adams with the team next year. I suspect a big reason Daniels was cut was the Packers believed Adams was ready to step up. Oops. Imagine how much better our run defense would be with Daniels.

I was surprised Allison had more snaps than Lazard. Lazard is making a big push to be the Packers primary "possession" WR and Allison and Kumerow need to start playing much better or risk being on the outside looking in next season. If I recall last season correctly, ESB had surpassed MVS in snap count during the last few games. MVS maybe in some jeopardy as well if ESB comes back strong next year. MVS has all the tools, but he needs to work on his craft during the offseason. He is still very raw (route running, adjustments to the ball).

Daniels coming in with a worse injury than expected combined with optimism around Adams is a major story that many fans forget about. I think that alone is keeping GB from being a top 15 defense

Yeah, I'm not saying cutting him was a bad move, or that Detroit signing him was a good one.

My point is that, given when he was cut, I think the significance of his injury was a surprise to GB when he showed up to training camp. I think Gute and Pettine went through the offseason banking on a healthy and productive Mike Daniels, and when they found out it was too late in the offseason to fix it. Clearly, that would have a negative impact on the defense.

Why the hell they didn't draft Dexter Lawrence or Christian Wilkens for the D-line I will never know. After signing the Smiths OLB was not a need, but D-line was. Our defense would be much better with 1 of these 2 next to Clark.

Always appreciate your Snap Counts, a great way to review just who got into the game and for how many plays.

It is difficult from the La-Z-Boy to always pick up player numbers when the subs or Special Team players get into the game.

And most of the time the game announcers fail to announce, or maybe even notice, some of the subs entering the game even during a regular series of play.

Burks apparently isn't earning too much playing time and I thought earlier in the season that M. Adams would be used more in rotation than he has been used.

Thanks for doing the always informative Snap Counts.

I'm not sure what this is but I don't care for it.

- I'd love one of the reporters to ask Pettine if Mike Smith thinks Gary is so awesome and versatile, why is he on the bench so much?
- I'm also not sure where Burks 8 snaps came in because he was invisible.
- They need to rotate DL more than that. No more 3 man rushes, EVER.

His snaps were end of game. You didn't see him because he was nowhere near the ball even when he was supposed to be. At least some evidence for why he's not getting off ST.

Do people just like to make things up to fit their narrative? You are correct that Burke played LB snaps at end of game. I saw him. He made at least 1 tackle on defense in those 8 snaps cuz I saw it happen, he had 3 tackles in the game but two could have been special teams because I saw only 1 on defense. 1 tackle playing 8 plays isn’t ‘nowhere near the ball’

Game balls: Savage, good pick, played the run well too. Jaire Alexander was great in coverage, he was in a slump, I thought he did a good job on Slayton. Kyler Fackrell played well on teams and had some pressures. And of course, Allen Lazard, as a Lazard truther his performance was great and not at all shocking. Also, I noticed Jimmy Graham is not being used on First down now and his snaps have gone way down, only 42%. This is a the right call. Pass pro was solid. Aaron Rodgers: He looked more like Aaron Rodgers.

Lame calls: Blake Martinez in coverage....nuff said. David Bakhtiari looks like a different player, penalties, and lost contain several times in the run game, is he injured?? Elgton Jenkins finally looked a rookie on a few snaps, bad holding penalty. Kevin King was inconsistent other than the pick. Run defense wasn't great. Why is Pettine playing so much zone on third down??? Play press man like the first 2 downs! O-line got manhandled in the run game.

We just can't keep drafting Defense! If Pettine doesn't want to play Gary, Jackson, Adams, Summers etc Maybe we need to find somebody that will. The clear choices of Gute: signal one thing. Either their Busts; or Pettine's Defense is wrong for them. Regardless; the list brings other Questions, and Why? Favorites are one thing. And yes veterans know whats expected. But Time in Pettines system should have produced results! Aren't you Sick of it? Praising a guy's camp and then making him sit SUCKS! Dealing with Pettiness whims, until a player disappears is a CANCER to all.. The Risk of never getting better is real. His defense should keep showing potential of greatness. Not just how to survive in the NFL. There's a disconnect. And it needs to be fixed!!

Not one of your better takes stockholder.

First of all, your frustration with drafting defense has a lot to do with the busts prior to Gute/Pettine. You even list a 2017 pick in Adams, that was a TT pick. Can't put that on them.

Second, we're a year and a half into the Gute/Pettine pairing. That's not enough time to label them as successful or not. Sure Gary and Jackson are frustrating. Gary seemed like a reach while Jackson seemed like a bargain considering many wanted him with our first round pick. However, they've done extremely well in finding the right guys for the system in free agency. That counts too. TW, P. Smith, Z. Smith, Amos... that's 4 high quality starters they brought in.

Third, I realize it's inconvenient for fans who were predicting a top 10 defense would sprout out of nowhere, but GB spends almost nothing on the defense. #28 in the league. Are the vikings better? sure. They also spend nearly double what GB spends. You want a top 10 defense, you have to spend the money. There are very few teams that spend as little as GB and end up with a top 10 group, it just doesn't happen.

Don't get frustrated by coach speak, it's not worth your time and every team does it.

Can't, But they praised him all through camp. He got hurt and has been in the dog house since. He's been with Pettine 2 yrs. Next: I'm not upset about outside signings. They deserve praise for that. It's the failure of the draft! And the HOME GROWN DEVELOPMENT>Plus Play TIME. Next: Spending Money has Saved Gute's Job. Had The Smiths not been signed, with Amos. (Forget the Wins.) Next:Speak. - Hear no evil,Speak no evil, see no evil. My point was: That THE TEAM would do better, if you play EVERYONE against a lesser Opponent. You can have a book smart person. But until that person does the job. He doesn't gain experience to do it better!

It's so frustrating to see Lancaster, MVS, Allison, Graham, and to a lesser extent, King get so many snaps. Both Smiths and Clark are playing far too many snaps.

Can we PLEASE get Lazard, Big Bob, an actual ILB and a 3rd DL on the field once in awhile?

Read Stockholder and Bearmeat's comments and hear the frustration. I doubt that Pettine or personality is holding anybody out of the lineup. If Montravius Adams is not in the rotation, it is because he hasn't earned it. Lord knows we need depth and able bodies but these guys aren't making the cut. Kudos to Tyler Lancaster for playing ahead of guys like Adams and Keke. Still it tells you about the quality of player our scouts are bringing to the dance. Kenny Clark is the only real stud we have from 5 years of draft investment. Totally pathetic.

As for guys like Josh Jackson (2nd round) what does it tell you when a 38 year old corner or UDFA is taking your spot. Poor drafting is the underlying message not Pettine being spiteful or blind to his shallow pool of talent.

Posted my response to stockholder before reading this, very similar thoughts.

The frustration is 5 years of rebuilding, like you said, only two of which are under Gute/Pettine. The results haven't been great, and the Gary project makes it hard to believe that this group is on the upswing, but it's way too early to make any negative assessments about Pettine.

Think about what Pettine likely faced this year...
MP: "Hey Gute, I don't think Blake is ideal at ILB"
Gute: "I hear ya MP, but we're locked into being the highest offensive payroll in the league, so my hands are tied. We don't have the money to upgrade. Also, we're not going to wait for Mike Daniels' injury to get better so we're going to cut him. You're good with two Northwestern grads on your D-line right? That's a school known for raising mean big uglies I think"
