Packers signing WR Ryan Grant

Running back Tra Carson is being released to make room.

The Packers are bringing in some wide receiver help.

Grant most recently played for the Oakland Raiders, who the Packers face on Sunday.

Drafted by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round of the 2014 draft, the 6' 199 lb Grant has also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts.

The signing could very well signify that Geronimo Allison could miss at least Sunday's game after sustaining chest and head injuries on Monday night.

Not a splashy signing by any means but we need more experience in the WR room. That was quite clear after the Lions game. Grant should be more reliable than Shep, Kumerow, or even MVS based on experience in the league alone. I like the signing as a patch.

I don’t know much about this Ryan Grant. I am actually a little disappointed that Carson will be let go. He surprised me a little in Dallas. Thought he made a couple of ok plays. Oh well.

His pass protection was much better than anticipated.

True, but Jamaal Williams is back and I'm sure Carson will be just a phone call away.

He stepped in and didn’t look overwhelmed. He was a decent blocker and made a couple short but effective runs. He was also with Packers during all of camp which to me means he was familiar with the offense. Now I also said he was “ok” and I don’t think he is headed to the Packers HOF. Just thought he seemed like he knew what he was doing and didn’t hurt us. Interesting that Gute/ML chose to activate him before Dexter Williams.

Anyway, that is too much writing to dedicate to a former third string back. I also never used the word impressive.

Probably signed (at least partly) to get inside info on the Raiders. He’ll get dumped as soon as Allison and Adams come back unless he really plays well (which I doubt). It takes Rodgers like 10+ games before he even begins to trust anybody and actually throw them a ball. I personally hope Lazzard builds of last game and becomes awesome.

Then how do you explain Lazard having a great game? Rodgers trusted him and threw him the ball. It's how they practice; how they grasp the offense; how they handle themselves.

It's also back against the wall. There wasn't anyone else left to throw to who wasn't dropping passes like bricks on monday.

Adams out. Allison went out. MVS was out for a spell. Shep was stone hands.

No way you can say anything that you've posted...None is based on actual knowledge of why the Pack signed him at this time.... The only reason is they need another WR because of injuries.

Inside info, he'll get dumped, takes AR 10+ games to trust a WR ... all balderdash... Sorry.

Grant also played for the Redskins, so P. Smith knows him.
LaFleur left before Grant, but surely had contacts.
So, he knows the basics of the system anyway and, as a vet, should understand coverage.
Would be nice if he can run.

Slot type WR... Good route runner, strong hands.... Not fast... 4.64 forty at his combine.

A true slot type, which fits what the Packers are replacing in Allison. More quick than fast. Apparently has good hands. Here's his draft profile...

"Garbage like Ryan Grant"..... based on what?... You've got nothing as usual.... You know, you don't have to post all the bs bouncing around in your head all the time... Sometimes just having thoughts on your own is enough.... Save the bandwidth.

Down to four WR with MVS dinged up pretty well. That leaves only three healthy to go on a short week. D. Adams could be out till beyond 10 game, now add GeMo in the concussion protocol, and that group looks mighty thin. Signing a veteran was a necessary move to fill a slot. (normally this would not be a problem, but Gute is dancing on so little cap space already, I hope this does not bite the team long term....)

I think it's a real possibility that Adams doesn't return until after the bye.

Yup. Turf toe takes time. This is where the loss of ESB really hurts. Solid no 3 pushing Ge Mo and MVS, the drop off between those three and the then 4-7 was striking. Both Shepard and Kumrow? are having trouble adjusting to the speed of the pro game, and the mental aspect has not caught up to them yet. In other words, they both hit the wall at the worst possible time. With the TE position equally hurting (2 out of three injured) that limits what MLF can plan on a short week. Grant is going to be on Green Bay's roster for a while....

The first Ryan Grant was signed off the Giants' practice squad in 2007 and became an instant star with the Packers in a run to the playoffs -- so you never know.
I'll be interested to see how this Ryan Grant works the middle of the field as far as quickness and savvy.
It seems our biggest need with the wide receivers and tight ends is to find a go-to guy in the middle to pick up first downs.
Still not giving up on the guys we have, including now Grant, to be that guy; but that's the only kind of pass catcher I would possibly be looking to acquire outside of the current roster.

It's a wasted article because we should have never picked him up in the 1st place, but it's a done deal now. But, I expect a signing of no less than Emanuel Sanders in less than 12 days.

Just a guy for the immediate depth chart. He will be gone in a couple weeks. They have to move on a veteran Wr with credentials ,if Gutekunst plans on fielding a winner.
