Packers sign WR Darrius Shepherd after rookie camp tryout

The North Dakota State product faces long odds to make the Packers roster.

The Packers had a look-see at a number of undrafted prospects this past weekend during their rookie orientation camp and it seems they liked what they saw from one of them.

Green Bay has signed North Dakota State wide receiver Darrius Shepherd.

Shepherd faces long odds, but the Packers have a strong history of giving undrafted players a legit look.

The more the merrier. TC competition is important. Maybe he can be a KR/PR. Thanks, Since ‘61

He is a returner. That’s the reason for him being interesting in my view. He was the one non ST player I was hoping would get picked up. I hope he will give Davis a run for his money.

Small, small school slot that made plays in clutch situations and ranked second in yards per reception in the country per PFF. That said, it’s his returning record that gives him a shot to compete in my view.

He can compete as a WR also. He's no slouch and he hangs on to the ball.

I saw Ross's tweets about him.

He looks like he is a very good route runner who knows how to get open.
He can return punts.

I also saw on twitter that he was the 2nd highest graded WR in the draft according to PFF.

He has very steep odds to make the 53, but players like him you can't count out.

Davis better hope he has a good camp... I said it in Ross Twitter... I think Sheppard will push Davis... He can return and be productive in the pass game.

62 receptions for 1065 yards with 9 TDs is pretty productive. Not to mention MVP of the FCS championship game(pretty big stage) with 5 recs for 125 yds and 2 TDs. Guy is a winner from a winning program, something GB needs more of.

Shepherd may end up moving out a couple of the stiffs at WR and make the squad.

Can't wait for this TC, it will look so much different this year. WR's will be pushed to the brink and I think we have a bunch that can be better than most. I'm a MVS fan, think he takes a huge leap in his 2nd year.

A smaller small school version of Kumerow.

He isn’t Kumerow, he is a classic traditional slot. Small and very elusive. Seems to play faster than his 40 time and can genuinely catch and make decisions as a returner.

That’s not a knock on Kumerow. If this kid translates his play, we could have a game day option if routes with a bonus body type receiver, expanding the route tree and ways to challenge a defense because if he makes it, it will likely be because he is our returner. They would not keep two of the Davises and him.

It’s optimism optimism running riot, but from what I have managed to see, this might be our chance to have a returner who legitimately can do more on game day.

Or a big school version of Kumerow. I think Kumerow's college enrollment is smaller than Shepherd's.

NDSU has 14,358 students on a 261 acre campus
UW Whitewater has 11,128 on a 400 acre campus.

So.. ndsu has more students. Gotcha. If half the campus is woods and other such things.. does it really count as "bigger"

More students dude. Bigger school. Please don't embarrass yourself with stupid responses. Believe me... I have had my share.

Darrius Shepherd was ranked as the #2 slot WR right behind Andy Isabella. How this guy slipped through the cracks if beyond me. Andy Isabella was scouted big time by many teams.

This was a good pick up. Could be a sleeper that contributes this year

If he can catch, Davis is gone.

Davis can't stay healthy. Maybe this kid can. Davis does us no good in the tub.

Darrius Shepherd is my 2nd favorite UDFA signing, and I do believe he will prove to be a lock for the 53 man roster.

He's a solid returner, and just take a moment to took at his highlights. Tell me he doesn't look exactly like a young, healthy Randall Cobb...

This kid will stick.
