Packers sign S Eddie Pleasant, release LB Korey Toomer

Veteran safety Eddie Pleasant was the highlight of a handful of roster moves made by the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday.

The team announced Pleasant had been signed to their active roster, offering a durable, efficient body to their depth in the wake of Kentrell Brice dealing with a lingering ankle injury.

As a corresponding roster move, the Packers released linebacker Korey Toomer, who they signed in September before the start of the season. Toomer had only played 12 snaps on defense, but 102 on special teams through seven games.

It's likely that Pleasant, who established himself as one of the more significant special teams contributors during six seasons with the Houston Texans, will end up assuming Toomer's previous role and even finding opportunities on defense.

The Packers' newest safety is somewhat of a familiar face. Pleasant was one of five players the Packers worked out on a single Wednesday last month. One of the others included another safety, Ibraheim Campbell, who they claimed off of waivers early this month.

Pleasant only started one game in six seasons with the Texans, tallying three interceptions, 17 defended passes and 2.5 sacks; he's exclusively served as a backup safety en route to only four games since 2013 and playing in 76 of a possible 80.

Peasant briefly signed with the Arizona Cardinals this season, only being active for one game before being released.

The Packers also placed offensive lineman Anthony Coyle on the injured list and signed fullback Malcom Johnson to replace his spot on the practice squad.

Contract year, has already stated he didn't think he would be here next year. So we got guaranteed value instead of relying on a comp. pick if he walks.

Wrong. His statement had nothing to do with it they knew they weren’t going to resign him and from that came his statement.

I think it mostly had to do with Ha Ha not wanting to get his uniform dirty, taking lousy angles, seeking to avoid contact, and generally mailing it in since the last game of the 2017 season.

He seems to have carried that level of intensity with him to Washington. Ha Ha is living his life after football *while* he's still playing. The whole contact thing can cause injuries, I guess.

I remember in '14 when we beat New England. Haha, after the game made reference to a play in which he tried to tackle Gronk, said he was going to do that ever again.

My take he did this since day one. I thought petine would have seen his play and made changes but he did nothing to correct the crap play.

Because we were too silly to trade him or rescind his 5th-year option back in March and sign Boston for a quarter of the price and roughly the same production.

Rewatch the game last week on Thanksgiving Redskins at Cowboys, see Amari Cooper highlights.

The dumb safety #20, getting posterized making Cooper look like 1998 Randy Moss? Yeah, that was Haha. Ha ha. Also missed tackles and took bad angles, out of position... that's why.

Because he's the biggest puss GB ever had at safety. all of last year was a prime example of his unwillingness to make contact in any way shape or form.

It says Pleasant is a durable and efficient body, and Peasant played with the Cardinals. If this were a tag team wrestling match I bet they'd have at least a chance for a draw against the very capable Kenny J and Scrap Iron Gadasky!

I helped tear down a wrestling ring with Scrap Iron once. A wrestling match was held in my hometown, Hayward, WI, and the local folks promoting the match wanted it to be held on a big, inflatable raft owned by the local National Guard, out in the bay where the World Champion Log Rolling contests were held. The wresting promoter said no, so the ring was set up on the dock where the under hand chopping and the log sawing competitions took place. Of course Red Bastien, The Man of A Thousand Moves, drop kicked Paul "The Butcher" Vachon into the lake, bringing the crowd to it's feet. After several matches, me and about 5 other guys helped Scrap Iron take the ring apart and fit it into a trailer where it went to the next venue. Something I'll always remember.

That's a great story! Had to be the one and only time The Butcher was dropkicked into a lake, don't you think?

I helped Scrap Iron take down a wrestling ring after a match that was held in Hayward, WI, once. The local promoters wanted to have the ring set up on a large, inflatable National Guard raft in the middle of the bay where the World Championship Log Rolling contests were held. The Wrestling promoter said no, so the ring was set up on one of the large docks where the sawing and chopping competitions were held. The highlight of one of the matches was when Red Bastien drop kicked Paul "The Butcher" Vachon into the bay drenching him. After the matches, George and five, or so, of us tore down the ring and put it into a trailer where it traveled to the next venue. It's something I'll always remember.

Pleasant and riveting stuff.

The injuries are mounting up so fast, any thought of a 5 game win streak is all but gone.

Roster churn...one ST specialist out another, with first-hand knowledge of the upcoming opponent and a chance to be a contributor on D, in. Nothing to see here.
