Packers Sign CB Jumal Rolle to the Practice Squad

Rolle had previously been on the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints earlier this season.

The Green Bay Packers signed rookie cornerback Jumal Rolle to the practice squad, general manager Ted Thompson announced on Tuesday.

There was an opening on the practice squad since placing linebacker Rob Francois on injured reserve and elevating fellow cornerback James Nixon.

Perhaps reading into the signing of Rolle, one could infer that the Packers feel good about their situation at inside linebacker and Brad Jones in particular.

When it appears as if the Packers could be short on depth at the position after Jones pulled his hamstring this past Sunday, they chose not to sign an inside linebacker either to 53-man roster or the practice squad.

For the time being, the Packers will rely upon A.J. Hawk, Jamari Lattimore and Sam Barrington until Jones is ready to return to action.

As for Rolle, he was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Buffalo Bills where he spent the offseason and up through the first two preseason games before being cut. He also spent the first four games of the season on the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints before being released once again.

Rolle worked out for the Packers earlier this week, according to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Twitter. The cornerback was also reportedly in Green Bay for a pre-draft workout.

In college, Rolle earned Division II All-American status as a senior at Catawba when he picked off six passes. He will wear No. 20 with the Packers.

I guess this signing replaces the CB that just got called up.

If we run nickel against the Ravens our ILB are going to see a lot of action. Read into that a little more and that means a lot of time on the field. Maybe the plan is to run more dime?

Yeah, I am thinking they will come up with some various packages if needed in the Nickel, or using various players.
Maybe use more Safety's or another OLB if they had to...

Exactly what I said yesterday. TT is VERY comfortable with Lattimore and Barrington. Both those guys could start tomorrow and they would do just fine.

Nixon was going to get picked up soon I guarantee it. This guy has some blazing speed like Shields. I honestly don't know why Jacksonville doesn't just sign all the Packers practice squad players. Hell DuJuan Harris was cut from them last year and he would probably be our starter if he didn't get hurt. What kind of ham and eggers are running that joint in Jacksonville!!

That is exactly what I was thinking, that Nixon was going to be signed to someone else soon.
One thing that we have learned you can never have enough good CB's in this league.
Packers have had a very good track record of developing young CB's and turning them into good players (Tramon Williams, Sam Shields). Nixon could possibly be one of those guys down the road.

Maybe the Packers are seeing what they have in him just in case Shields will be looking for too much money...

I read the Buffalo Bills were trying to grab him up but TT was quicker, putting Francois on the IR, elevating Nixon.
