Packers Select Harnish, Igwenagu in #MockFour Seventh Round

With their first two selections in the seventh round, the Packers added a pair of offensive skill players in Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish and Massachusetts H-back Emil Igwenagu.

Harnish was selected with the 17th pick in the seventh round that came from the New York Jets in the trade for offensive lineman Caleb Schlauderaff.

The Huskies quarterback would compete for the backup job with Graham Harrell behind starter Aaron Rodgers, but realistically Harnish is a developmental quarterback.

The running skills of Harnish and his ability to make plays with his legs is reminiscent of Rodgers, but as far as passing goes, he has a long ways to go.

Any such quarterback the Packers draft will hopefully benefit from the tutelage of Rodgers as well as head coach Mike McCarthy's offseason quarterback camp. Harnish has raw skills worth developing and could possibly become a starter in the NFL with time, patience, repetitions and coaching.

The best description of Igwenagu is probably H-back as he's versatile enough to play fullback and tight end and has experience handling the football.

His selection was made with the injury to John Kuhn in mind and could fill the fullback role if Kuhn comes back slowly.

Though Igwenagu comes from an FCS school, he impressed at the East-West Shrine Game. He was a team captain, played some linebacker early in his college career and is a perfect special teams candidate.

The Packers #MockFour draft so far...

1.28––Alabama linebacker Dont'a Hightower

2.28––Clemson defensive lineman Brandon Thompson

3.28––Cincinnati defensive lineman Derek Wolfe

4.28––Baylor center Philip Blake

4.37––Tempe running back Bernard Pierce

4.38––LSU cornerback Ron Brooks

5.28––Missouri outside linebacker Jacquies Smith

6.28––Arkansas State safety Kelcie McCray

7.17––Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish

7.28––Massachusetts H-back Emil Igwenagu

Brian - If you're thinking about taking a late rd flyer on an OLB, check out Ryan Davis from Bethune-Cookman. (Not sure if he's already been taken)

i too have igwenagu going to the packers in my mock. we havn't taken a fullback since quinn, and kuhn is getting older and coming off a knee injury...

has miles burris been drafted? if so, where?

i think overall you guys have done a great job. your selections have been a little heavier on emphasizing drafting players in positions of need then i think ted will do, but like i said overall i think you've made alot of good picks. on to thursday!

Yeah, I like Burris as well. Looks like CIN took him at the bottom of the 5th.

Another flyer type that I like (sorry if suggestions aren't welcome) is Jovan Leacock - S - Bowling Green. He's smallish (hey, TT took DJ Smith last year), but there's just something special about him. Maybe it's that he plays the run better than any college S in my recent memory, or that he is very instinctive, diagnoses plays quickly and gets to the ball. STs ace as well.

I like the Harnish pick a lot. Really, the only pick in this whole mock I don't like is Phillip Blake - I'd try to get Brewster from Ohio State instead, and I'd trade off a lower pick to get him. Hightower was impressive this year. I think he could play OLB or ILB for the Packers. They will be lucky to get him.

Played against Harnish in high school. Kid can definitely play.
