Redding definitely shows talent. Like King, Davis, and Sternberger all four of them need to get into a SERIOUS weight lifting program with proper nutrients and protein. All have talent but not NFL physiques to take the physical abuse.

WR's with bad hands sometimes make good CB's... Sam Shields for instance. Wonder if J'mon has ever thought about playing the other side of the ball?

Yes, Sam Shields switched from WR to CB, with excellent results.

So did Jaire Alexander (although somewhat earlier in his career):

"Alexander was a receiver at West Charlotte High School. When he transferred, Crite persuaded him to switch, telling Alexander that he was a good wide receiver but could be a great cornerback.

Alexander initially didn’t want to hear it. “I was like, ‘Corner? I play offense,’ ” Alexander recalled...".

McClain’s rights are held by Dallas. He has been out of football for 3 seasons because of multiple failed drug tests. It will really be a long shot for him to make it back into the game. Brandon Marshall is a coverage linebacker coming off knee surgery. He may be worth a look. He has reported that he is fully recovered. I wonder how much that surgery has slowed him. In Winnipeg he had a high snap count but only registered 1 tackle. I agree, he could be added for a cheap one-year contract.

We have 2 players that may go on the PUP list, EQ and Burks/Bolton. They must be on the 53 at cut time. Can we cut a vet like Mercedes Lewis with an agreement to bring him back after 24 hours? In this way we can save a young player having to go thru waivers.

They can’t go on the PUP list. They either go on IR before the 53 and are done for season, or they make the 53 then go on Ir with possible designated to return. Pup is for those who haven’t practiced at all, like Ibraheim Campbell.

Campbell (and Greg Roberts) can slide directly from Active PUP to Reserve PUP without having to be cut or being exposed to waivers. No need to risk losing control. Both would be eligible to return after being there for six games, with the team getting 3 weeks to watch them practice and decide what to do with them. Of course, I don't know if Roberts is worth paying the NFL minimum (not sure if a split contract provision applies to PUP - probably does, so it could be $378K/year instead of $495K/year).

People forget that these are dreams and often a way out from tough backgrounds. Very few players walk themselves out of town, most have been stars all their lives and its hard to be suddenly not good enough. For some, they have precious few other skills. Cut down day is not a joking matter and relative lack of ability is not a crime.

LeSean McCoy just released in Buffalo as they went with Gore, TJ Yeldon & rookie Devon Singletary.

I don't like Shady McCoy as a person as he's one of those racist BLM guys, but he's a great receiving back & might be fantastic in MLFs system.

Not surprising but Crosby managed to convince me he has faded much further than I anticipated this off season. Hope I’m wrong. He hardly could claim to have out performed Ficken notably.

Better hope that our turnaround on ST kick off coverage is stellar or we will have big issues with opponents starting positions. That could cost us more than the points value of the kicks Crosby will make that Ficken would miss if his leg strength is as poor as it looked in camp and last Thursday.

Crosby's leg strength on kick-offs, or lack of it, is a subject that doesn't come up as much as it should.

I've noticed the last few years that if he attempts to get to the back of the end-zone it has to be on a line-drive kick. Might not be a big deal, but if the returner fields it, the coverage team isn't position. Most of the time, when he does get air under the ball it winds up between the five and goal-line. Our opponents regularly out-kick him by ten yards or more.

It takes everything he's got to get the 50+ yard field-goals now. To his credit he still makes a good number of these. He used to have a strong-leg, but that's in the past, plus the recent calf-injury isn't a good sign.

All-in all I favor him over Fickens, even at the higher salary only because Fickens has been highly erratic during his brief career. But sooner than later they need to upgrade.

"Randall" is the bigger fail in that the Packers failed to recognize his value as a Safety and let another team benefit. The Browns were able to jettison the 0-15 carma of Kizer and salvage Randall. The Packers got stuck holding the bag with Kizer who showed he could not overcome his deficiencies in accuracy and decision making. He'll always produce more turnovers than TDs. Totally unacceptable.

I don't think Boyle is the answer either. Don't sleep on Wilkins. He has the brains, instincts and athleticism to be a starting QB "if" he can develop his skills in reading defenses. I hope he lands on Packers PS.

Shocking! Drafting a player at the top of the 3rd round and cutting him five months later is unheard of. Prior to the NFL combine, Polite was being talked about as a potential first round draft pick. Then he did poorly at the combine and his value dropped like a rock. The Jets took a gamble that his pedestrian athleticism could be overcome by other attributes. Apparently not.

The Lions did the same thing last year drafting CB "Teez" Tabor in the second round after he ran a disappointing 4.6+ in the 40. Teams attacked him mercilessly on the field. He was cut earlier this year. The Lion GM was not fired because this one was his only admittedly "risky pick".

Campbell on PUP is a known commodity. And, apparently, so is Greg Edwards. My understanding is these designations do NOT count against roster mandates. BUT it also means said players have NOT practiced w the team for the duration of the summer. Hence, Bolton is an IR candidate and not PUP. And Campbell and Edwards have yet to be implicated in any roster counts.

I see two paths for the 10th cut and final roster spot:

Cut one of Lazard/Shepherd (my instinct says Lazard) and KEEP Bolton active or on IR w ‘designated to return status’ (thanks Coldworld - my mistake).

OR

Bolton to IR and keep both WR?

Welp, Texans just traded for the ever unimpressive and underperforming Carlos Hyde. I give up. I honestly don’t understand some of these organizations. This after their charitable giveaway of Jadaveon Clowney. Bill O’Brien. Killlllllling it as the defacto GM. It’s as if Houston is having their very own Mike Sherman renaissance. Sign. me. Up.

This was the team that had flown Gute in to sign Gute as their New GM. Murphy didn't bother to tell the board of directors about that little fact. Former president Bob Harlan informed the board and the board made an offer to Gute at the airport in Houston. Gute turned around and took the offer before he boarded the flight back to Green Bay. Call the owner on the flight back and turned him he was turning down their offer. Houston was so shell shocked (well their owner as) they decided to reboot the GM search starting after this season. Too say the Texans were angry is a vast understatement.

Imagine scampering to trade a 5th round draftpick for an unproven specialist w upside and a multifaceted Punter/kicker toolkit. And, then cutting him a few weeks later. Your Minnesota Vikings ladies and gentlemen. Ouch.

Yet more proof that the thing holding the Vikings back more than anything else is Rick Spielman.

Didn’t see him as better than McCray and predicted McCray would lose out due to the depth and interchangeability of those ahead. Pankey still has PS eligibility I think. It looks like they may have kept Madison and not Nijman as I thought they might.

PS some reports McCray traded to the Browns. Don’t know what for.

PPS. “the Browns agreed to swap undisclosed 2020 draft picks”. Per their official site

And everyone who gave me a thumbs-down when I said Yosh would have a hard time making the 53, I'll be at the Raiders game and will accept your beer.

He is guessing based on numbers retained for O and D previously.

Special teamer kept at a position of weakness at which he has had a really poor camp. Not impressed if true. We can’t afford that.

Miami traded LT Tunsil, WR Kenny Stills and a 4th for apparently 2 first rounders, one 2nd, OL Julien Davenport and ST Bademosi, per Garafolo.

Seems like an enormous amount. Davenport is pretty decent, isn't he? Starter quality, anyway?
