Packers Reportedly Give QB Scott Tolzien a Raise

From Lance Allan of NBC's TMJ4 in Milwaukee...

It's not unprecedented for team's to give practice squad players a raise if other teams show interest in signing them.

Notably, the Packers did the same thing in 2011 when other teams wanted to sign wide receivers Tori Gurley and Diondre Borel late in the season.

Tolzien knows that even though he's on the practice squad, he's essentially the Packers' third-string quarterback and only an injury away from being their backup.

Hope it never comes to it, but with Cobb out, who is the emergency QB if we go through both QB's in a game?

Presumably Nelson, as we was before Cobb was around.

Somewhat interesting Tolzien would turn down a chance to possibly start in Cleveland in favor of the GB PS. The Pack seem happy with Wallace at two, so as long as QB1 remains healthy he has no chance to start or even get minutes here.

Wonder if he's received feedback from the coaching staff that he's the frontrunner for the number two spot next year. Either that or he's really into the GB lifestyle.

I think saying Tolzien having a chance to start in Cleveland is a stretch. Granted, the likelihood might be better than in Green Bay, but he still would have been a long ways from starting in Cleveland.

To make this move Thompson must believe Tolzien has a chance to be #2 next year and will give him the chance in the exhibition season to prove it. For Harbaugh a former starting QB to keep Tolzien on the active roster for 2 years indicates the talent required to play QB in the NFL is possessed by Tolzien. Even is Wallace is #2 next year the team is so much better off now that Harrell and Coleman are history.

Cleveland is one productive QB away from being dangerous again. If Tolzien would be the starter he should take the offer and head for Ohio. They'll give him the shot at starting and he may just be able to prove himself.
