Packers reportedly adding linebacker James Burgess

The well-traveled veteran will provide some inside linebacker depth and possible special teams help.

From Field Yates

Burgess, who was originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2016 and has played for seven different teams in the league,  played in 10 games for the New York Jets last season, totaling 80 tackles, an interception, one forced fumble, eight tackles for loss and five passes defended.

The Jets released Burgess in early September after he suffered a lower back injury in practice. He signed with Atlanta for inclusion on their practice squad a week ago.

And now, he's set to be a Green Bay Packer.

I like this signing, as he can at least help on special teams and maybe backup on linebacker roles. He had a good 2019 with the Jets as 80 tackles in 10 games and 8 for losses. We need to pick up a few more guys before the trade deadline ends in two weeks.

Maybe Gute should have addressed the ILB problem earlier, like in the draft. Oh, and please get rid of our defensive coordinator. This is just Dom Capers, the sequel.

He drafted Martin didn't he? So clearly he DID address it. Maybe you should pay attention!

Not bad production for only 10 games. If he stays healthy, good depth

Maybe he can somewhat cover a hundred year old TE? Because our current D can't

This signing shows how hard up the Packers are for talent.

I’m only excited about this signing if they use it as an opportunity to cut Burks.

I know it’ not the case but sometimes I think these practice squad signings are like a game of Red Rover.

Red rover red rover send James Burgess on over. Then he’s gone in a week.

Some of these players don’t even get a chance to practice before they’re released.

Let’s hope they find a diamond in the rough somewhere.

Burgess is an upgrade over Kirksey because he actually gets on the field. It took what, 2 and a half games?? I live in NY so i get to watch Blake Martinez and Kyler Fackrell outplay everyone on our defense every week. This scheme is absolute garbage and its coordinator sucks. Pettine should be a position coach at BEST.

Im fully aware of that. There was no sense in paying Martinez 10 mill a year to play in a defense that puts you in no position to succeed.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. At least they're doing something. That defense is a sieve. Playing soft. Come on Petting, tighten it up.

Oh & by the way, how do you stop Rogers? Pressure the crap out of him. Wonder if others noticed. We'll see.

Last Sunday was a collective effort of EVERYBODY sucking at the same time, including MLF and his play calling. I'd bet a amount of money that matters the next team who tries what the Bucs just tried fail and Rodgers and the offense are back to normal.

YES, they got their ass kicked. But the positive IMO from that ass kicking was I didn't hear ANY excuses. They sucked, knew they sucked, and admitted they sucked...Move on!!

BTW...Yes, Pettine does suck. WAAAY to much talent on this defense yo not be successful.

Every year there is a game or three where fans start crying the sky is falling!

It's the NFL people and there are over 50 professional football players on either side of the field. Talent, emotions, game ebb and flow, schemes, game planning and adjustments, injuries, and opportunities impact each and every game meaning games in the NFL often are unpredictable, which is what makes it so much fun and why it is exciting to be a fan.

Many of you on here predicted it would take three years following MM to obtain the talent to be competitive again. Well it is year two and LF and Gutey have the team WAY beyond anyone's predictions. Not one fan on here as I recall even came close in predicting the success the team has had. The team is ascending and talent is being acquired and retained. Gutey and LF have the team moving in the right direction, particularly when you see what has happened to the Vikings. Sit back and enjoy as Packer fans are likely to see a pretty good run for the next several years!
