Packers Release Offensive Lineman Joe Gibbs
The Packers released offensive lineman Joe Gibbs on Monday, announced general manager Ted Thompson.
Gibbs, a 6-foot-4, 315-pound first-year player out of Tennessee-Martin, was on Green Bay’s practice squad for the final six regular-season contests and both playoff games last season. He originally entered the NFL as a non-drafted free agent with the St. Louis Rams in June 2010.
It would appear as if the Packers are making room for undrafted free agents on their 90-man offseason roster. Perhaps Gibbs didn't show up to the team's offseason workout program in good shape, but that would just be a presumption.
The reality is that the Packers make room for undrafted players coming out of college every year. They know what Gibbs is capable of, and he was a long shot to begin with. In a rookie, they're looking players with potentially more promise.

And 16 lbs heavier than Bahktiari, which means because of Rodgers (and TT's obsession with re-signing him), we just lost a better player than our garbage 4th round pick.

This can, of course be taken way too far. Chad Clifton played at 320 lbs. So did Mark Tauscher. Anyone doubt that the Packers had a more effective set of tackles then than now? Bulaga is listed at 314 lbs. Anyone think he would be a better player if he dropped 15 lbs.? The question is not whether Bakhtari is better than Mr. Gibbs. The question is whether Mr. Bakhtari can be a dominant left tackle at 299 lbs. in today's NFL, or if he can gain 10 to 15 quality pounds and still be what makes him good now.

No. I do however doubt that them being slightly heavier was what made them superior.

Clifton had a great punch off the snap, along with the ability to adjust and anchor after re-directing rushers with said punch. I thought his hand placement, punch and anchor was what made him a top 5 pass protector when he was at his peak. You could attribute (in part) his ability to anchor with his mass. The other attributes, not so much.
The irony, however, he was among the bottom 5 in run-blocking despite the girth. Getting in the way was about the best he could offer in the running game.
