Packers Receive Two 6th Round Compensatory Draft Picks

The NFL has announced the Compensatory Picks for the upcoming NFL Draft.

The NFL has announced the full list of compensatory draft picks for 2015. The Packers will receive two 6th round picks, numbers 210 and 212.

Interestingly, the Steelers, the Ravens, and the Packers all qualified for an additional pick, but the league had already allotted the maximum number of picks, which is 32 per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Packers received their latest compensatory selections for losing Evan Dietrich-Smith, James Jones, and C.J. Wilson. (The loss of Marshall Newhouse did not even qualify apparently. I look forward to the Comment section on that one...)

Since 1994, only the Baltimore Ravens have been awarded more compensatory picks (44) than the Packers (35)

The Packers' draft currently looks like this:

  • No. 30 (1st)
  • No. 62 (2nd)
  • No. 94 (3rd)
  • No. 129 (4th)
  • No. 166 (5th)
  • No. 205 (6th)
  • No. 210 (6th)
  • No. 212 (6th)
  • No. 247 (7th)

Yeah, the lig couldn't reward the Packers with another compensatory pick for Newhouse when the team was already rewarded by being rid of that matador anyway.

Ted's smiling enough as it is. THREE sixth round picks! Could only have been better if they were seventh-rounders.

EDS should have garnered a 5th. Should have been a 5/6/7 for EDS/Jones and Newhouse.

I've read elsewhere that Newhouse signed for the vet min and therefore does not count.

Meanwhile Belichek picked up the highest pick (another 3rd rounder -- for losing Talib) and signed Revis last offseason.

Wow, he not only can coach, but he picks up quality veterans in free agency (Revis) and via trade (Talib), while accumulating draft picks. Belichek is a GM who uses all means of player acquisition rather than relying solely on the draft and undrafted free agents.

He has to...he can't draft cornerbacks to save his life.

Or wide receivers.

Just a few of Thompsons better finds in the 6th round.

Johnny Jolly, Desmond Bishop, Mason Crosby, James Starks.

Also he used a 6th round draft pick in a trade for Ryan Grant.

Hopefully 2 more picks will allow him to unearth more talent.
At the very least it gives him flexibility to trade his other 6th round pick and not lose much.

I think the Packers will trade out of the 1st round for a high 2nd round pick and an additional late round pick. They will use that trade to take a ILB. With their second pick in round 2 they will draft a CB and then use two of the 6th round picks to draft a second ILB and a second CB.

I have been trying to get logged on here for a while so I have something kinda off topic to say. (I used to be woodson4president) Anyways I just wanna say that all these mock drafts that have us getting a CB in the first round now are so stupid. If u look at the positions mlb and cb which one is more solid? Well we have 3 good cbs and one good mlb .....so why would we not go MLB in the 1st. Kendricks is a playmaker...period. If he is there and we don't take him we will regret it.

I'm pro-CB at the bottom of the 1st (top of the 2nd if they trade back). I don't see the value at ILB at the bottom of the 1st this year. Meaning that of the ILBs this year with a draft grade in the 20-40 range, none of them make me go, "oh boy." There are some CBs likely to be available in that range that I think can bring something to the Packers they don't have right now - height. I could certainly be wrong. If TT sees a guy that the Packers think will be the next Ray Lewis (minus the near felonies) inside of his range then I'm sure they will go get him. Right now I just don't see that guy.

I agree with you. The Packers need an ILB before they need a CB. The Packers pick at #30 in the 1st round. If Kendricks is available when the Packers pick, I expect they'll take him. However, most mock drafts have Kendricks taken before the Packers pick at #30 and that's why I think the Packers will trade out of the 1st round for a high 2nd round pick where they will draft either ILB Stephone Anthony or McKinney and then use their second pick in the 2nd round to draft a CB.

I hear what u guys are sayin about the no 1st round MLBs but by the time we get to our 2nd pick there will be better value at CB than MLB. I know it's not possible an Anthony type MLB will fall that far especially with everything happening in SF. But I do see a guy like PJ Williams possibly falling to us. Only my opinion n guesswork ofcourse.

I have to agree with DannyDS and Jh9, it would appear that a trade down might be the Packers' best option. I believe that both Shaq Thompson and Kendrick will be gone by the 30th pick, and staying put and grabbing an ILB would be a reach. A trade back of about 10-15 picks would keep Ted in play for any of the other ILB prospects (Anthony would be my preference ) and garner another mid round pick for even more depth. As an aside, as long as one of the 6th round picks is used for Jalston Fowler, I'll be pleased.

1) I haven't watched ANY college games this season so I can't/shouldn't say anything about any of these prospects. However, I do agree with the person up top saying going CB in the 1st would be unwise ONLY (a big ONLY) if the coaches feel like one of the 2 CB's, not named Shields, is not CB #2 material.

2) I don't believe in "reaching". There's no such thing. Do we draft players by what they've done or by who they can become?

I'm hoping for the best defensive player along the D-Line or ANY LB position (since Clay will now be playing many snaps at MLB)

To your last point, I read somewhere that this draft is crazy deep with 3-4 OLB types, so maybe that's the best route to go. Instead of reaching for an ILB, maybe grab another 3-4 OLB and play Clay even more at ILB for another season.

Also, lets not forget that this could be the last year for Peppers, Perry, Neal and Mulumba. All of their contracts expire after this year, minus Peppers, but Peppers is essentially on a year to year deal.

So going after an OLB could definitely be an option.

I personally like having Mathews playing everywhere. I don't want him stuck at either position.

"I personally like having Matthews playing everywhere. I don't want him stuck at either position."

I think we all can agree on that.

He just makes plays. He impacts plays. No matter where he's positioned.

Definitely. And even if they go ILB in the 1st round, I'm sure Matthews will continue to play a hybrid role.

Six other teams have ILB high. Picks that could be there; Trey Dupriest, Zack Virgil, Taiwan Jones, Hayes Pullard. I 'm looking for a OLB than ILB early. But these guys would be so cool in the 6th.

If we could get Jalston Fowler and Stefon Diggs in the 6th, I'll be very happy.

I can see ted moving around a few times and drafting all defense unless he likes a running back that can do returns. He may be thinking about the OL line when its time to pay out or let some guys go.
