Packers RB Aaron Jones to Miss 3-6 Weeks With MCL Sprain

A promising start to the season for Aaron Jones will have to be stalled for a little while.

Multiple reports surfaced on Monday that the Green Bay Packers rookie running back suffered an MCL sprain to his right knee in the first quarter of the Packers' win over the Chicago Bears a day prior.

Jones is expected to miss about a month -- specifically 3-6 weeks. He had shined ever since being thrust into the starting lineup when fellow running backs Ty Montgomery and Jamaal Williams went down with their own respective injuries in the first season meeting against the Bears on Sept. 28.

After two games over 120 yards and three touchdowns, Jones will lob the starting roles back in the hands of Montgomery and Williams. However, that lob is still up in the air as well.

Montgomery left Sunday's game against the Bears with what is expected to be a re-injury to his ribs that he first wounded in the aforementioned meeting against the Bears.

Williams, who handled the workload on Sunday, will likely be the starter next week when the Packers welcome in the Baltimore Ravens. He may also have rookie tailback Devante Mays in the stable along with him, who has yet to play a snap on offense this season.

While an MCL sprain isn't exactly ideal, the Packers are fortunate to have dodged a bullet from what could've been a serious knee injury to Jones.

The Packers earned their first win with Brett Hundley as the starting quarterback and the first since Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone, but it came at an afflicting price that the Packers will have to once again conquer this season.

I think we need a exorcism performed in the locker room . Just unbelievable.

The CBA practice schedule is hurting the players. They're just not in Football Condition anymore.

While I mostly agree with you, Jones injury was more due to field conditions and getting rolled over on. Basically his foot got stuck in the ground and the defensive player rolled over on him while tackling.

The CBA practice schedule is the same for all teams. Not buying it. It seems the Packers have had and still have more serious injuries and also players out for longer periods of times than other teams. And while one certainly cannot do anything about things like torn ACLs or broken ribs and collarbones, one has to ask why there are so many hamstring injuries? This may have more to do with not warming up properly, stretching, maybe diet...

" It seems the Packers have had and still have more serious injuries and also players out for longer periods of times than other teams."

That's because you go by the handle "Packer_Pete" and pay more attention to the Packers.

Go to NFL.com and check out the pages that lists injuries for each week. Other teams have lists every bit as long or longer.

Maybe no team has lost the caliber of player the Packers have. Since Rodgers in the best player in the league (IMO), it is not possible for any other team to lose someone that good. But ask Houston fans the impact of losing JJ Watt, Whitney Mercillus and DeShaun Watson. Or Arizona fans about David Johnson. Or NYG about OBJ. Watt, Rodgers, Johnson and OBJ are arguably the best at their positions in the league. All are done for the year.

I don't know if the CBA is the cause. It might be simple physics (bigger, stronger faster players colliding play after play have simply pushed beyond what the body can endure). Whatever the reason, it's a league-wide issue.

I agree on the physics idea.

Lots of teams have injuries. Not just the Packers. I've played hitting sports and I can tell you if I took one of the hits I used to laugh off now I'd get injured. The body has to be prepared to take the real impacts, and controled impacts is the only thing that does it.

Tell me a team that is, and we’ll copy exactly what they do.

Yeah, I'm saying the Packers one of the 32 NFL teams disallowed from getting in football condition.

And that is so unfair!
Also, Troy Aikman hates the Packers.

I have been critical of Ted's most recent FA off-season. Obviously, one cannot grade a draft for 2-3 or even four years. However, I can say that his move drafting three RB's this year was brilliant. If he doesn't do that, its another Christine Michael/Knile Davis kind of debacle. Oh, and letting Eddie Lacy go was also the correct move, as he has been a complete bust in Seattle.

I completely agree! First they had to overhaul the position from the previous years. They had to get younger, more talented and deeper, which I think they did that.

I really liked Williams and Jones when they were drafted. Mays will be intriguing to see what he can do. But since we haven't seen him yet, we don't really know what he can do.

Finally hit the wall. Players are too big and too fast. As I've said prior, we;re one incredibly gruesome injury from the conversation shifting from CTE to whether the league should continue to exist at all. Sounds crazy, but ex-players with early life CTE will only increase in the next few years.

I don't think so. In our society, I think there is a very real possibility the NFL is going to be either gone or radically change in 10-15 years.

Been thinking the same thing for awhile now, just look at the difference between now and the 1970's. I know its 40 years, but if people who only watch football now, would be awed by what was allowed. Add to that how society is changing, and I hope you are wrong about the NFL being gone in the decade or two, but I'm not blind to see that it could be or radically changed. PLayers injuries aside, the league itself is coming under more and more scrutiny, with its handling of too many things to name. The way they have handled a lot these concerns, have left egg on their faces. When the NFL is king no one cares, but if it slips a little people start to circle like vultures.

Point Packer, I hear what you are saying, but why is Boxing and whatever that new "cage fighting" thing allowed? I'm not so sure society has a problem with violence right now.

You do bring up a good point too. Baltimore doesn't know what to expect. They won't have much film to go

Honestly, RB is a tough position to play. There aren't to many that make it 16 games. Another reason why drafting 3 was a really good decision.

What is crazy about the injuries this year is the amount of stars lost. Someone put out an all injured reserve team and that team would honestly would win the Super Bowl, with ease. I mean just to name a few Rodgers, David Johnson, OBJ, Joe Thomas, JJ Watt, Richard Sherman and many more... Its crazy.

All I know is teams are viewing the tape of the game and have already told their QB's pass ot whomever Davon House if suppose to cover. Make those the long throws because he cant keep up, is a day late and can be easily fooled

Drafting enough talent for the backfield and having some trench toughness to make the ground-game work has been a God send this season. McCray, Evans, Linsley, Taylor and Bak have embraced the run attack and are opening lanes for these guys to run through. Given the loss at QB we needed this to happen.

I know we have all been down on TT for his obvious failures in the draft and with the FA signing of Bennett. I must say that he knocked stiff with the signing of Jahri Evans - total stud. If Brooks and Dial would get healthy it might help the cause even more.

Razer, I'm not sure I buy into your comment, "TT for his obvious failures in the draft and with the FA signing of Bennett". A lot of people were happy with the Bennett signing at the time (although more wanted Cook resigned) and some of the 2nd year guys are looking pretty good. To me McCray is it the Packers' MVP this season. That dude is a keeper!!

Does anyone think it's possible that the Packers ask Montgomery to go back to WR next off-season?

I ask because Aaron Jones looks like the feature back of the future.

I think its possible because Jordy is a FA in 2019. His price tag and age may just make him retire or play elsewhere. Monty would inject some youth into the WRs, while we have 3 young RBs (I'd imagine the staff wants to see Devante Mays at some point).
