Packers' Randall Cobb misses practice, likely game-time decision vs. Bills
-- Keep your expectations low with seeing Randall Cobb play in the Green Bay Packers' meeting with the Buffalo Bills this week.
The veteran receiver has been battling a hamstring injury all week and, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, missed Saturday's practice.
Ever since being listed as a limited participant on Thursday, the Packers have listed Cobb as a non-participant the last two days. The team didn't practice on Friday, however, his designation would've remained unchanged from Saturday's.
Even despite his shortcomings while he rehabs his hamstring, Cobb is still questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Cobb saw 11 targets in last week's loss to the Washington Redskins, but only caught four of them. He still managed to get open behind the Redskins' defense on more than one occasion but wasn't able to get on the same page with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who completed just over 61 percent of his passes.
Cobb is third on the team in receiving yards, second in catches and is one of three players with at least one touchdown reception -- all three of them are wide receivers.
A lot of Cobb's numbers came specifically in the second half of the season opener against the Chicago Bears, making up for 142 of his 194 receiving yards through three games.
Still, Cobb remains one of the focal points in the Packers' offense, whether he gets the ball or not. All signs are pointing him to being unavailable on Sunday, but he'll likely be a game-time decision depending on how his hamstring responds during pre-game warmups.
His replacement? Likely one of the Packers' young rookie receivers -- the only other receivers other than Davante Adams and Geronimo Allison -- on their roster. Whether Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Equanimeous St. Brown or J'Mon Moore. Moore has been inactive in every game this season.

Not good. -- I'm not a huge RC fan because he generally under performs except for an exceptional game here & there. --- However, he's a starter and that means a less experienced WR has to step up.
Somehow the Pack needs more continuity from game to game, especially at the WR position. -- They're a passing team.

Which as we all know, is part of the problem. Without a run game, there is nothing to take the pressure of Rodgers, even though the NFL rules changes has put the run game in danger. Is that nuts, or what. In the short term, that makes TyMo the most important packer (next to QB1) in tomorrows game. Sigh.......

I'm not sure what NFL rules are putting the run game in danger. It appears the rule changes tend to make a running game more important.
The biggest threat to the Green Bay run game is Mike McCarthy. He has always been quick to abandon the run when he falls behind.
I agree that an effective run game will take pressure off Rodgers. If Cobb is a game-time decision, Monty becomes more important as does RB Aaron Ross.

Drive blocking is becoming a lost art, as the Refs will call holding on any DL who is pancaked. Most teams run one back spread offense to force DB in one on one where they can't use their hands in space. (Of course a lot depends on what crew is calling the game. Some Ref crews will defy the league front office and let contact go. We saw that with packers-vikings. But that kind of 'old school' game calling is pretty rare for now.) Add to that QB1 will always throw on RPO, and you have real problem in the making. Let me add, this a problem between Rodgers and McCarthy that goes back to the 2014 season, when McCarthy took the ability to call pass plays at the line away from Rodgers for a while. He had to force Rodgers to hand off the ball so they could set up play action. That's what their shouting match in the Bengals game was about. But to be honest, kind of hard now not to throw the ball when you are behind with the league rules that way they are.

Yes, get Moore to play, he has yet to drop a pass in regular season. Of course he hasn’t played in regular season ;-) No, this game will depend on the guys we got. And we have some good ones. Unleash the other Aaron. When the run game gets going everything else will too.

Ty Mongomery in the slot, Williams and Jones in the backfield. We said it in the offseason...if Cobb gets hurt who fills the slot? I suggested Monty.. because he was actually a fairly good receiver before this running back business.

There are talented receivers that can step up and make an impact. But they can't perform if they are sitting on the bench. And the Packers would have a running game if the RB's were given a chance. Doesn't make any sense to abandon the run when Jones had 42 yards on 6 carries. And not let him continue playing. Time to run the ball and when the defense slows it down go to play - action. Start the game with the no huddle. Don't wait until you're 2 scores down then go to it. Keep the defense off balance and use the talent you have. Poor game management leads to poor production. And quit committing so many penalties, especially in the red zone.

Watching the Rams and Vikings with all the quick stuff to receiver like Cook and Diggs I couldn't help but wonder what MVS might do with the same passes. GET him the ball quickly and let him try a create and use his speed. My God he runs a 4.37, lets see it.

Question not asked so far, "If Cobb doesn't play who is catching the Punts?" Kind of a big question. I don't believe that Ty is that guy. Does Alexander have punt catching experience (I know he returned KO's in college, but not sure about punts.)? MVS was doing well in the slot in TC.

Totally agree!. Then again. MM will not use them in the game plan anyway. Watch today and jot down the use of running backs, tight ends, and receiver route patterns. You'll probably see no change from MM NEW PLAYBOOK!

Cobb? Knew it. Production not good at all. Should have kept dependable Jordy for the slot! As for Beluga and Perry? Expected. No surprises with these players. Also Kendricks should have been traded, he has really been a big disappointment. We didnt need him after preseason showing by other tight ends. Packer dumb.
