Packers Question of the Day: Pro Bowl Snubs

Amongst others, who was the more Pro Bowl-worthy candidate on this year's version of the Green Bay Packers?

Many believe David Bakhtiari, considered by many to be arguably the best left tackle in football, was one of the surprises. Though, it's understandable why; he missed four games and is playing for a team currently out of playoff contention.

Still, this has to lead to some more animosity towards the Pro Bowl considering some of the players that did end up getting enough votes over others.

Not sure how the Steelers can place 8 or 9 guys as pro bowlers and we can't manage one. The whole process sounds as contrived as a reality TV text-in vote.

Still, the Steelers who have undergone a mini rebuild, are a good example of a team who assessed and fixed weaknesses. All these pro bowlers may point to the idea that they put their players in a position to succeed. Surely we can't be that much less on the talent front.

Because people View Green Bay as a little jerk town.

Pittsburgh is not once you fans get that through your head you will want to kick some rear end and start firing these coaches and once again claim that Green Bay is titletown USA but we screw around so much around so we don't deserve anybody to be in a pro bowl situation

Sorry, but David Bakhtiari had a pretty damn good year. Can someone drum up his PFF ratings? I suspect his injuries early on and the fact that he's not a household name hurt him.

I really don’t think anybody’s opinion toward the city of Green Bay plays a role in this I mean it’s two thirds players and coaches and one third fans so no more than 33% would be from fans who think of GB as rinky dink or a little jerk town or any other negative belittling remark that might be out there plus fans vote FOR players not AGAINST so even if NY or LA or Chi fans hate GB all they can do is not vote for Packers also if GB fans want to “kick some rear end” (as you put it) they don’t have the authority to fire coaches or GM’s because if they did probably all teams (except maybe NE) would have all new front offices and coaching staffs like every season or maybe even during the season so to be frustrated is understandable but to be so incoherent is a tough way to try to convey an idea.

I mean how can you let anybody in the Green Bay defense go to the Pro Bowl when their bottom half the 25th of the 32nd worst defense and on offense the only guy that's worth of flip is Aaron Rodgers and he was gone for 7 games and that leaves who and probably if it wasn't for Aaron Rodgers our defense will be 32nd in the lead.

Injuries aside could it be that the reason GB did not have anyone named to the Pro Bowl is an indication of a lack of talent on the roster?

Letting Hayward walk was a mistake in hindsight but the guy couldn't stay healthy in Green Bay and he only had 3 int's over his last 3 years with the Packers. They gambled in that he wouldn't stay healthy and they had Randall and Rollins showing promise in their early years and no one knew that Sam Shields career would be over a few games into 2016.

Hyde is playing safety for Buffalo. The Pack couldn't pay him starting safety money and have him sit behind Clinton-Dix, Burnett, and they also drafted Josh Jones.

I think at the time most would agree the decisions not to resign them was a solid decision. What this shows is that Capers isn't getting the most out of his talent and the Pack need to move on from him.

It's pretty simple, the best teams will get more votes from fans. If Rodgers had played the whole year we'd have ten wins right now, and multiple pro bowlers.

Yes our offense and defense is ranked between 25th and 32nd in the league I believe we have a lot of good players on the team that are not being used properly and our defensive scheme is all screwed up as players are not being taught to play this game properly and we need some coaching changes

Whoever imposed this “one sentence rule” is really making it tough for anybody to try to make any message clear even if it is well thought out it just kind of runs together and the end result is a humiliating kick in the crotch from many miles away something crawls to the surface of a dark Scottish Loch see how those Police lyrics just snuck in there I mean what are they doing in there other than (or other ‘then’) muddying the waters who btw was a legendary blues man who influenced generations of musicians such as my all time favorite Keith Richards who amazingly is still alive even though his drugs are probably only 50% blood so there ya go and if you’re (or ‘your’) confused by all of this consider the diseased mind from which it originated.

There is a lack of top tier talent... But doesn't mean they don't have talent.
And yes there are players that were snubbed.

But Bakhtiari definitely deserved to be a pro bowl player. He allowed less then 1 pressure a game. He missed what 4 games earlier in the year. Perhaps thats why he didn't get in, but he definitely should have been voted to the Pro Bowl.

Davante Adams is 2nd in the league in TD receptions. 2nd only to Deandre Hopkins. He was 6th overall in TD's for Receiving and Rushing. And he had 0 rushing TD's. Oh yeah, and that was with Hundley as the QB for half the year.

Others that should have been in consideration. Kenny Clark, Blake Martinez, Justin Vogel actually should have been as well.

You are what your record is. No one cares about the Pro Bowl. If Hyde and Hayward were with GB, they would not be "pro bowl" players. Our defense was not good enough with no pass rush and multiple injuries. Capers is probably gone.

The NFL's pro-bowl game is one of the biggest jokes in sports. They should have an award ceremony for the players who achieve pro-bowl status and eliminate the game. I haven't watched a pro-bowl since the '70s. Thanks, Since '61

It is a complete waste of time. Though it is an honor for players to be picked for it. Like you said though they should just have an awards show for it.

Though I haven't watched the pro bowl since the 90's.

The Pro-Bowl game itself is a joke, I agree, but it still represents an honor of sorts for the players that are perceived to have performed the best at their positions during the year. The fact that those two guys went to different teams and turned into pro-bowlers, on NOT VERY GOOD teams I might add, doesn't shine favorably on the Packers talent evaluation priorities.
I'm actually starting to think that GM is sort of a dunce, and/or senile, and Murphy's too afraid to tell him to retire.

Points I agree with;

Our LT is as good as any in the NFL Pro Bowl or not and the players and coaches in the league know that.

Once you make the Pro Bowl even in a bad year the next year the players get a break in the voting - see above correlation.

Adams considering Rodgers missing 7.5 games not only is 2nd in TD's but he mad clutch catches and scores with both QB's throwing. Great already that this point was already posted.

The game itself has become almost as questionable as the NBA All Star Game due to the injury factor.

Many players have a clause in their contract for big bonuses if the make the Pro Bowl and that is why the game is still played, everyone wants to recognized among their peers.

Just like MLB and NBA similar honors every year deserving players are "snubbed". However, that is great discussion ammunition for us fans.

We as fans of the Packers have gotten the biggest snub of all. It's crystal clear why we have no pro bowl players. Will the top Packer brass fail to see, or should I say refuse to see what is clearly evident? A healthy full season of AR puts Jordy in, Adams in, Bahk in and himself. This team depends so much on AR it's as easy to see as anything. His injury could be a blessing in disguise and force the team to go in a different direction. It all falls on the front office on down to MM. There's a ton of controversy in GB right now, lets see how they handle it. Hopefully not the same ol, same ol.

The Pro Bowl is a publicity contest. Has little to do with best players - just rewards best stats and best known.

If Bahk is rated the best left tackle in the league and is not voted in, obviously the ratings mean nothing to the voters.

Lets re- do some Numbers : Hayward = Starting All pro - FMV= CB 12 mil. Hyde= FMV= Starting all-pro 11,mil. Barnett Released,Patriots. Datone Jones Released, Cowboys. Lang alternate All-pro 10 mil. Sitton - Bears. Peppers alternate All-pro.Car. Trotter Browns. I think you get the picture. Ex Packers are making money, and most are starting. Were about to pay A-Rod 200 Mil. Were about to pay Adams 11mil.Plus. These figures are just the Fair Market value for starters. Burnett should get 8 mil. You can't pay everyone. So do we Over-pay or fire coaches.

Amen. I know it's tough to see Micah Hyde perform so well when we have a poor defense but reality is (remember these decisions aren't made when half our DBs are hurt) he wasn't going to start for us and it's just not reasonable to pay a 3rd string safety/slot corner that type of money. Hats off to Hayward, but you can't resign everyone. Unfortunately if you're the GM long enough you'll have as many mistakes (Bennett, not resigning Hayward, giving Cobb all that money) as you do hits (Woodson, Peppers, Cook)

David Bakhtiari & Davante Adams.
Two players. -- That's part of the problem and nary a defensive player worth mentioning. -- Certainly, the Pack have some talent but impact players ?? -- Not so much.

I'm beginning to wonder if either Mike ore Ted would still be around if they hadn't inherited Farve and got lucky in the draft with Rodgers. Coaching and talent evaluation seem to be in short supply on this team.

Enough pro bowl talk. Only candidate may be Rodgers if healthy. Without Rodgers very few stand out period. Also, run game never got going until late in year, with Rodgers usually having to run to make plays. It shouldnt be that way. How oftwn do you see Brady run? Defense was so poor that players don't get noticed and their rank says it all. So deserving of anyone? No.

At least two ex Packers made the Pro Bowl. (safety and a cornerback) I am happy that we do not need any help in those areas. Maybe it tells us something about Capers and Thompson. I hope they become free agents this coming year. Thompson has been getting by on the talent of Rogers for years. He was lucky Rogers fell in his lap. We are way past the time for some major changes.

The fact that the best Left-Tackle in the NFL (at least according to Profootball Focus ratings) doesn't make the Pro-Bowl tells you how absolutely irrelevant it actually is.

Further, the idea that Harrison Smith, TreDavious White and Melvin Ingram are also not Pro-Bowl worthy just adds to the ridiculousness.
