Packers Question of the day - Nelson's Availability?

I've been seeing all over the place that Jordy Nelson has a chance to play this Sunday in Atlanta.

Before anything gets misconstrued, I'm completely 100 percent whole-heartedly against the idea of him suiting up against the Falcons. Broken ribs typically take 4-6 weeks to heal, and if the Packers manage to scrape by the Falcons and get two weeks of rest prior to Super Bowl 51, that'll be when Nelson is presumably due to return to action.

The chance is slim that he'll play, but if the chance is there, should he play? Possibly serve as a decoy? Rule in the fact that he has to regain full ability to breath and complete motion before this idea is even entertained - which, for some reason, it still is.

I'm more concerned with Davante and Geronimo at this point since they played Sunday. These two plus Cook and Cobb are more than what ATL can handle, but they have to be on the field.

Agreed. The Packers are really banged up at CB and WR right now. I went through the depth chart yesterday looking for WRs who are not on the injury report. It is a really short list. Adams and Allison DNP. Jody LP (shouldn't play). Janis LP. You are basically left with Cobb and Trevor Davis. That's it. This offense may be down to Cook and Rodgers at TE - maybe spilt Cook wide alot, Cobb and Davis at WR, and moving Montgomery around the backfield all game long. If McCarthy can find a way to make that offense work for 60 minutes then everyone can just call him a genius.

Ian Rapoport just tweeted Source tells him Allison and Adams are expected to play. I'm thinking this was more cautionary than anything. Packers haven't had a bye since week 4 so extra rest is playing it on the high side of caution.

It's all gamesmanship at this point. The Packers won't rule him out until they have to...just more for Atlanta to think about, but in reality he would be nothing more than a decoy even if they dose him up prior to the game and the Falcons know that.

Good assessment. They make Atlanta gameplan in the event that he can play. But really, Jordy's availability is the worst kept secret of the last two weeks.

Nelson playing fast (and not upping his chances of catastrophic re-injury) would be a huge bonus. But what the offense really needs is Davante at close to 100%, Geronimo at 100%, Burnett at 100% and Rollins at 100%.

Without at least 3 of those 4, it's going to be REALLY hard to outscore Atlanta. I don't think we can win with 22 personnel.

That said, with the way Rodgers looks right now, I wouldn't bet against him either....

Merely gamesmanship. He's not playing with broken ribs after 2 weeks.

Should the Packers win, he might be able to play in two weeks and be moderately effective.

Nelson's legs didn't get hurt, so I'd just have him run by everyone on his way to an uncontested 6. Call the Jordy-untouched-into-the-end zone play.

Either that or don't let him near the field. Save him for the big game.

Still do not understand how no fine was levied on the Giant's idiot. If it was the other way around or if happpened to Dallas, we all know there would have been an uproar.

It is just wrong.

People, it is not 4-6 weeks! It depends on many factors. Like, where are the fractures, is they are complete fractures or just partial. If there is 2 fractured ribs it is more likely partial fractured... The best info is that Jordy can breathe normally. That means fracture is closed. Now the only question is will he get back complete mobility of the body or not... And that is all.

If he plays Atlanta can't ignore him. If they do Rodgers won't. Either way it will be a plus to have him on the field. You won't see him going over the middle.

Nelson has a 15% chance of playing. The thought that he might must continue to be made so they spend time defending his movements and routes. Green Bay can win w/o him, but will need everyone else to kick in. I see a huge game from Monty this week. The main reason is there are very few bodies left. If Green Bay can get past Atlanta....they will have some bench back. So they need to get after Atlanta, period.

Correct. Be more concerned about Adams and G'MO.

I'm thinking Cobb and Montgomery may have 100 plus all purpose yards (including punt/ Kick returns)

Jordy should not play. I doubt that his ribs will be healed sufficiently. While Jordy is a great weapon the Packers offense has plenty of weapons until he's ready to play again. Thanks, Since '61
