Packers Question of the Day: Midseason Defensive MVP

Kenny Clark? Mike Daniels? Blake Martinez?

Who's your Packers defensive MVP at the halfway point of the season and why?

It's not Daniels, so either Clark or Martinez and I would go Martinez.

Not easily at all. Clark plays a less sexy position, one that doesn't show up on the stat line as much, but the Packers run D is so much better with him in there. I think the level of Clark's play is higher than Martinez (though he has played well) and he is more likely to be a future pro bowler than Blake.

For how green he is, I thought King held up well. He should be pretty good going forward, shame he is on IR at the moment.

If Burnett hadn't gotten hurt, I'd throw his name out there. The defense wasn't great with him in the lineup, but it was much better than this.

See my post about Capers in the previous article for how I feel about the defense. As for a defensive MVP, after the last 2 games, especially the Saints game you've got to be kidding. I don't know what your criteria are for an MVP but mine include someone who takes over the game and wrecks the opponents game plan.

Someone like Reggie White, Ray Nitschke, Willie Davis, Dave Robinson, Charles Woodson. Those are defensive MVPs. A player who in the defensive huddle says we're stopping them here and now and the defense listens and rallies around him. That's a defensive MVP. Not Daniels or Martinez because Martinez has a bunch of tackles. Who cares how many tackles a player has when the defense gives up 500 yards of offense. That's too many tackles that are all too late. Kenny Clark appears to have the potential to become a defensive MVP but let's see how the rest of the season plays out first.

The way this defense is playing the last few games LaDarius Gunter could be their MVP and most of you know what it took for me to type that. That in and of itself is enough of an indictment and indication of how I feel about our defense so this season. Thanks, Since '61

I share your stringent criteria for the MVP designation.

There is no h in Gunter

thank u every one seem to think that Martinez is having a good game because he had so many tackles but don't account for the fact that he's making majority of his tackles after the running back either has a first down or a good chunk of yards and no one seems to mention how bad he played in pass coverage this game all I seem to care about is as tackles it's a shame you guys seem to forget that AJ Hawk pretty much lead us in tackles every year which leads to my point just because you have a lot of tackles don't mean you having a good game

" don't account for the fact that he's making majority of his tackles after the running back either has a first down or a good chunk of yards"

Maybe because that is fake news.

Yesterday, he had 4 solo tackles and 6 assists in the gamebook. The gains went for 4, 3, 0, 1, 3, 2*, 7 on the assists and 3, -1, 1, 3 on the solos. The asterisk indicated a first down allowed (1).

Nice try, tho. It sounds good to say something like that. The problem arises in that it is pretty easy to check. You probably should have before you went on about the "shame" of others for failing to see the 'real' Martinez.

Well if isn't the $10 million dollar man, clubbed or not, somethings wrong, unless of course mediocrity or little above is highly regarded.

Don’t want Eric Reid. He’s a troublemaker like Kaepernick.

The Packer "D" is again the achilles heal of this team for like 6 years now. The "Mid season Defensive MVP" designation is meaningless. Who cares who your best defensive player is when your "D" gives up 500 yards and loses another game at home?

CHTV needs better blog topics.
Thanks. Since '60.-- Samson.

The MVP might be on another team.. But King or Clark would be my pick.

Clark. Burnett is my second choice, but Clark is well ahead.

The defense sucks but you have to pick from the cards you are dealt and not wait for the return of Nitchke. I pick Martinez because SOMEBODY has to make the tackles. No one else on the team will.

That would be Kyler Fackrell or Damarious Randall if you catch a rerun of the game you must have missed yesterday.

Fackrell had the tackle on the 1st 3 and out. Randall on the 2nd.

Martinez has 43 tackles on running plays that totaled 134 yards. That is 3.1 yards per a play. Also only 19 players have more tackles for a loss and they are almost all DEs or OLBs. Martinez in playing really well, including against the pass.

Kenny Clark.

Without him, Blake Martinez is not doing as well. So he's a 2-fer-1.

stupid article, pack d sucks no MVP schemes suck wrong personel I keep seeing the backs throwing the palms up saying what are we supposed to do? Duh? House needs a new house next year, HA HA step late stone hands terrible, Burnett not tough enough no durability I like Daniels, Clark, Martinez, Lowry as well after that clean house. Send pretty boy CM packing or pay him half as much he does not show every game.
