Packers Question of the day - Comparable Misery

Yeah, so, the 2016 Green Bay Packers have clogged the headlines, and not in a good way either.

Many are asking what's wrong with the team, roster, who's the person to blame and for some strange reason, what's wrong with Aaron Rodgers? Even though, anybody with a brain would know he's the absolute furthest thing from the problem.

My question is - are there any Packer teams from the past who remind you of this year's version? 2005? Teams of the 70s and 80s? If any team were to come to mind, which year would it be? Tough to compare with six games left, but for question's sake, give it a shot.

I'm lucky! This is the first time I'm watching Packers like that...

Maybe 1999? 2008?

2005 they were just awful that whole year. Not comparable to that year.

2013 was different because Rodgers missed most of the year.

I'm lucky to be young enough that I didn't live through the 70s-80s. I started watching around the time Favre started.

That's funny, but seeing a defense this bad goes back to the 80s.
So here's my question...assuming Capers is gone who takes his place?
On the offensive side I could see Philbin brought back. ST coach could be jag and be better than what the Packers have had over the years.

I have seen a lot of people talking about bringing Philbin back. I would be happy for him to come back. But does he want to come back?

Perhaps he would if MM was gone.

"So here's my question...assuming Capers is gone who takes his place?"

If Todd Bowles is let go by the Jets, I'd bring him in in a heartbeat. If you're looking at a mid-season replacement, Trgovac is the only one with any DC experience. Maybe it would be time to let Moss earn his money?

2011's defense was pretty bad, they just had an offense who could outscore you in a game that was 45 to 38 for example. They set records for passing yards allowed if I'm not mistaken, it was definitely bad in historic proportions.

1983 was close. They had a amazing offense and a horrible defense.

Philbin back would be great, but what do I know. I got no brain......
And I m not so sure if he is willing to work with the "furthest thing from the Problem".

It may sound strange, but the 2016 Packers are very much alive at this point. MIN and DET are not much better and we can only get up. Not the worst szenario to be in.................

fastmoving......it doesn't sound strange, just impossible with the team playing as poorly as they have been doing.

As I recall, the years when Bart Star was coach, the defenses were not good. However, they seemed to have a more potent passing attack, especially when Lynn Dickey was QB. He threw nice pretty long balls and the offense had some potency. This offense is impotent. I'm wondering if the west coast offense McCarthy runs is dead. The defenders seem to know where the play is going before it is ran. The only way to fix this team is to get rid of McCarthy. Dump Capers with him, of course. Always seems to take him way too long to get the defense playing well, and it is not going to happen at all this year. What happened to Mathews? He only knows how to bull rush now? He is having a poor year. Thompson. OMG. He must go. You go into the season with 3 inside linebackers and the best of the three is a second year fourth round pick who really can't cover. And the receivers he is picking are terrible. Everyone in the league seems to have bigger, faster, and more athletic receivers than us. The only young one we have that fits the NFL profile is Janis, and he was a project. The project is done! Get that boy in there and throw him the ball! He is the only one with the speed and athleticism to give defenses a scare. Jordy is ok, but not fast anymore. Possession receiver now. Adams is slow. Not needed on our roster unless Jordy goes down. Cobb is small and can't get open anymore. Wideouts I would run: Janis and Nelson, with Montgomery in the slot. That would be tough to defend. Pull defenses out of the man coverage they are playing us. Bring Allison and Davis off the bench to develop them. Sit Cobb and Adams then trade them in the offseason for fast linebackers.

The team is what they should refer to as Drain The Swamp time. Deadwood is a term everyone should be familiar with and this team a lot of it in the form of late round and undrafteds and a few top picks that under whelmed.
Ted T, adios. McCarthy gotta go. Capers, enjoy some time off pal.
Time for a GM who can turn this around with low draft picks and free agents. Drain the Swamp

Short on corners both Martinez and Ryan out, can we just forfeit Monday night against the Eagles or do we need to watch another beat down on national TV.

I don't have cable and I am not going to pay to watch my favorite team get trucked.

I'll follow it kind of online.

Just my opinion Thomas = NO! Look at his stats and getting caught up in traffic. Ryan was your top ILB by stats until last week. Yes to peppers! Jones is a total waste at elephant.

This year reminds me of 1999 a lot. Talent on the field, but not enough young guys stepping up for the older talent to make enough of a difference.

For me the 1988 Packers they won the last two games to go 4-12 missed out on Troy Aikman and then picked Tony Mandrich, passing on Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, Deion Sanders, Trace Armstrong , and Eric Metcalf.

We are sick of TT. Well, two words, "Tom Braatz"!

"anybody with a brain would know he's the absolute furthest thing from the problem."

Anybody with a brain or eyes wouldn't write that.

While Rodgers is certainly not the only and probably not the worse problem, his play and attitude have absolutely been a problem.

Pick any of the 8-8 years in the '80's, especially now that the defense has gone to hell. High-scoring games on both sides of the ball. The only difference is that the QB1 on those teams (Dickey) threw a better deep ball, had a worse O-line, and couldn't run.

I remember the 8-8 80's all too vividly. I was teased at school for being a packer fan. This team doesn't strike me as being a model of futility like the Starr-Gregg years, but I guess time will tell.

Lost in the Redskins game was the fact that Spriggs looked pretty good for getting some unexpected play and we had a tight end have over 100 yards for the first time since??????

My first thought was there is no comparable team because we have ARod. After more thought, I'd say the only year somewhat comparable would be the lost years with Sherman when we had Farve but also had no hope. Or maybe one of the years with Dickey.
