Packers Practice Round-Up. Day 8. August 24, 2020

There were no pads for practice today during the part open to the media.  The Packers did only some walk-throughs and then went inside to the Hutson Center where media could not observe.  Therefore, this will be a short article.

GENERAL/PERSONNEL:

So far, this practice has been a walk-through. Nothing but quarter speed 11 on 11s. Silverstein

Aaron Rodgers said he's expecting the Packers to play a good amount of "12" personnel. Kruse

Aaron Rodgers on MVS: "The biggest challenge for MVS is always going to be himself." He says key is practicing at a consistently high level each day, no letdowns. "His top end is pretty damn top end, his potential, but it's about being a professional all the time." Wood

Rodgers said he saw some things from 2010 on tape and picked something up from it. He said he took it to practice and has been practicing better ever since. He wouldn't identify what he saw. Silverstein

LaFleur doesn't know when Wagner will return. CB Jaire Alexander has returned to practice. Za’Darius Smith, helmet in hand, just jogged onto the Ray Nitschke practice field. Looks like he’s back. Wood

Safety Raven Greene is now observing practice. Rick Wagner has been. Not seen during individuals: • R. Wagner, M. Adams, R. Greene PUP • Bolton, Nijman, Roberts NFI • Taylor, Stepaniak. Runyan is back after leaving early yesterday. Owczarski

The Packers have a practice Monday morning inside Lambeau.  Media will be able to observe and there is some expectation that part of that practice will be in pads.

Aaron Rodgers has been on fire, especially on deep passes, for the last few practices. If he found a flaw that he has corrected, that is very good news. I am happy enough about it to refrain from speculating on what the flaw was.

That is exciting if he has corrected his footwork and he's stepping into throws again. I would really like to see Rodgers play within the framework of the offense and let it rip early in the play, not even leaving the pocket. Davante is also typically open early in the play off the line. This holding the ball for 7,8,9 seconds nonsense is a recipe for injury......not to mention it gasses the o-line to have to block that long....continually anchoring....

I agree, but would add that holding the ball 4 seconds is most of the time too long. Getting rid of the ball in 2-3 seconds ala Brady is a winning recipe, that and running set up well for the deep play action pass.

TGR, Always appreciate these practice tweet/comment updates; they really help give a sense of what's happening (or today's what's not happening, lol). For a second when I read the PUP after Raven Greene's name I thought he was on the PUP until I read the names after; yikes. It's still hard to get excited for football this year but these reminders of action still proceeding help to get back into fan mode!

“....but it’s about being a professional all the time”. Aaron Rodgers comment regarding MVS. Yikes. That is a passive, aggressive comment. I am not saying he is wrong or right. However, MVS is a third year player? Maybe he is giving him a kick in the pants but not exactly a ringing endorsement either.

Perhaps, IDK. LaFleur earlier in the week said almost exactly the same thing. LaFleur said they needed consistency from MVS, for MVS to play at a high level every day.

At least AR said that MVS' highs are pretty damned high.

I am still worried about these receivers and Gutey's disregard for upgrading the position. If anything happens to Adams, we may be sunk. I know everyone wants to emphasize the run but you have to be able to throw and MVS is the only real speed threat we have. AR's comment is not a ringing endorsement.

It's MVS' 3rd year, and it's time for him to put it altogether. It's both Rodgers and MLF saying that MVS had some great performances, and he has to keep it up. That's the context you left out with the "...", all the nice stuff, then the part you quoted is them encouraging him to keep it up and be consistent.

So yea, it's time to for MVS to stop acting like a kid and get motivated to elevate his play.
