Packers Practice Report: Josh Boyd Returns, Datone Jones Does Not

The Packers got back 50 percent of their injured duo on Wednesday, the first day of practice this week.

After Josh Boyd didn't play in the most-recent game against the Minnesota Vikings and Datone Jones was injured in the same game, there was concern about the depth of the Green Bay Packers defense line.

The good news for the Packers is that Boyd returned to action on Wednesday for the first practice of the week, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com and several other beat reporters covering the team.

Jones, however, did not.

Head coach Mike McCarthy expressed optimism this past Friday that Boyd would be able to return but said he didn't know whether Jones would.

It's only Wednesday, meaning there's still two more practices and four more days until the Packers play their next game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. So there's still time for Jones to return.

In the meantime, the Packers will continue to rely on a pair of undrafted rookies to play significant roles on the defensive line between Mike Pennel and Luther Robinson.

Word from Green Bay is wide receiver Jarrett Boykin also remains out. He has not played since Week 3 against the Detroit Lions with a groin injury.

Linebacker Sam Barrington, meanwhile, returned for the first time since last playing Week 4 against the Chicago Bears as he nurses a hamstring injury.

It probably helped Boyd and Barrington that the Packers, in essence, had a mini-bye, coming off an earlier-than-usual Thursday night football game.

Good news Boyd and Sam are back! Glad to see Datone standing around with no crutches or boots of any sort. I Hope rest and ice lead to a speedy recovery for Mr. Jones.
