Packers place Muhammad Wilkerson on injured reserve

The team also signed practice squad cornerback Tony Brown to the active roster.

The Green Bay Packers placed defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson on injured reserve, signed cornerback Tony Brown to the active roster from the practice squad, and signed defensive lineman Deon Simon to the practice squad.

Wilkesron got leg whipped by Packers safety Kentrell Brice late in the second quarter of the team's loss in Washington last Sunday. He was carted off with a left ankle injury and taken to a hospital by ambulance. He stayed in the hospital overnight, which spoke to the severity of the injury.

Wilkerson was one of the Packers' marquee free-agent signings this offseason. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst gave the former New York Jet a one-year, $5 million contract.

Brown, a 6-foot, 199-pound rookie, was signed to the Packers practice squad on Sept. 3. Originally signed by the Los Angeles Chargers out of the University of Alabama, he was released on Sept. 1. In four seasons, Brown played in 51 games for the Crimson Tide, posting 89 tackles (58 solo), 4.5 tackles for a loss, seven passes defensed, three interceptions, a half-sack and a forced fumble. He was awarded special teams player of the week six times by the Alabama coaching staff. Brown also competed in track and field for the Crimson Tide.

Simon, a 6-foot-4, 332-pound second-year player out of Northwestern State (La.), was originally selected in the seventh round (No. 223 overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He spent most of 2015-17 on either the practice squad or active roster of the Jets. Simon appeared in 16 games with one start for the Jets, recording 28 tackles (20 solo), 1.5 sacks and a pass defensed. After being released by the Jets following training camp, he spent the first three weeks of this season on the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans before being released on Sept. 25. Simon will wear No. 79 for the Packers.

In Brown, we might have a new fastest guy on the roster candidate.

Sucks losing Wilkerson, but, he was a run stopper at best. We need pass rush more.

See Brown as more of a safety. Fast but stiff hipped. Willing to tackle.

Wish there were some pass rush trees that still had their fruit on.

Brown was a projected 3 TD rounder . No takers very strange, something happened but nobody is saying , he is very good and worth the gamble.

Suddenly the DL is an issue.
One more injury & Lowry will be playing all the time. -- Here we go again with the lack of depth defining the season.

I agree with you on this Samson. I was watching all week and we basically elected to not replace Wilkerson on the roster with another D-lineman. One more injury during Sunday's game and we will be short on the D-line. I don't want to hear about anyone being tired or ridiculous formations on defense because we had no depth. Our linebackers are not good enough to replace lineman on the field. This Instead of carrying all these extra receivers who never see the field maybe its time to find some D-lineman.

Brian Price opted to stay on the Browns PS after they put his pay up $30k pw.

If Cobb is out, one of the receivers will likely play in his stead. Could be the week you see significant snaps for one of the rookie WRs.

Another Mike Pennell size wise. By the way Pennell is playing for the Jets I believe. Always liked Pennell, just too bad he got into some trouble but seems to have overcome that.
