Packers Looking At Division III Quarterback Joe Callahan

The Milwaukee Jounral Sentinel reports Green Bay has been keeping in contact with the senior from Wesley College.

It appears the Packers are looking at possibly adding a fourth arm to their quarterback room after the draft.

From Tom Silverstein

His name is Joe Callahan, a record-setting quarterback who was awarded Division III's version of the Heisman Trophy after throwing for 5,068 yards and 55 touchdowns last season.

The 6-foot-1, 216-pound Callahan has drawn the attention of the Green Bay Packers, who have been in contact with him regularly and appear very interested in signing him if he isn't drafted. Regional scout Mike Owens did the groundwork and director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst has been following up with phone calls.

The Packers are looking for a fourth quarterback to go with Aaron Rodgers, Brett Hundley and Ryan Williams and they like what they've seen in the strong-armed Callahan. Wesley's level of competition isn't SEC-worthy, but they are aware of the talent at Division III powerhouse Mount Union and only needed to turn on tape of Wesley's quarterfinal playoff game in Alliance, Ohio, two years ago to see what he did against the Purple Raiders.

More than likely Callahan would be nothing more than a camp arm, someone to help the team get through all the reps necessary in an extended camp and preseason, but you never know.

Watching some of his highlights from his senior year, you can certainly see why an NFL team might be intrigued. He's obviously raw as hell, but he's got a crazy live arm and has real pocket presence.

he's got a different throwing style than I'm used to. It kind of looks like he's hucking a javelin when he tosses a bomb

Those videos show him passing w/o setting his feet because of pressure and both throws look like they were on the money. That's a great arm!
