Packers LB Barrington Honored With Humanitarian Award

Packers Linebackers Sam Barrington will accept the 2016 Pop Warner's Humanitarian Award on Saturday at the 56th Annual Pop Warner All-American Scholastic Banquet.

Barrington was also the Packers' Winner of the Ed Block Courage Award last season, he won the 2015 community service award from the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, and was named one of the NFLPA's Community MVPs in 2015.

Barrington has worked with Wisconsin literacy programs, helped provide low-income students with a safe surface to do year round sports and activities, helped bring awareness to public transportation issues around Green Bay, and has partnered with the Salvation Army, NFL's Play 60 program, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Barrington will receive his award at an event honoring 7,700 Pop Warner student athletes who acheived at least 96 percent in school.

The Pop Warner Executive Director Jon Butler said,

“This is such a special weekend as we celebrate the amazing achievements of our young scholars who have demonstrated extraordinary scholastic success....Sports and academics together help our young people develop leadership skills, knowledge and an adherence to teamwork and discipline.

“We’re also proud to celebrate the leadership our award recipients have exhibited in their sport, their profession and their community. They are exceptional in their individual fields and they help set a standard for our young people.”

I would really like it if Mr. Barrington would win some kind of "Dangerous Human" award.

Congratulations to Sam. It is great to see someone dispel the notion that GreenBay is just a place to play, but also live and contribute. All the better if he has a great season and yes develops a rep as a nasty SOB on the field, too. He might want to change his twitter name though in this PC age.
