It usually takes two to three years for players to pan out. (per jumping the Gun). Nobody wants to give up on Gary. Still have my fingers crossed on him.

Excellent draft Gutey....I don’t remember the last time the Packers had two on the All Rookie Team. Congrats to Savage and Jenkins. What a great year our new GM has had. He gets an off-season A in the draft and FA. Our future is bright. I’m proud to be a Packer fan.

Yes, it’s already a good draft. It has the potential to be a great draft depending upon how Gary, Sternberger, and KeKe turn out. Also, they got some good looking UDFA’s in Bolton, Roberts, Ento, Ramsey, Nijman, and Wilkins

Also some good in season pickups with Veldheer and Tler Ervin. Good job getting something for Trevor Davis.

not such a ood job trading away a legitimate ST punt returner and seeing our return game go to historic NFL lows for half the season, though

The return game sucked with Davis and sucked without him--until Ervin arrived anyways. I doubt that Ervin gets claimed if they never traded away Davis. Davis was not the best decision maker in the world and it showed up often. Ervin is every bit as fast and much more decisive. So the Packers went from bad to bad with an extra 6 rnd pick to good for the stretch run/playoffs with an extra 6.
I've been critical of Gute for not following through on his "once you know a guy can't play, you move on" proclamation. But in this case, he did follow through and the results are very good.

Disagree across the board. Cutting Davis was a net loss for offense as a whole. Losing a veteran who could read Rodgers when D. Adams was injured was a risk that backfired on GM Gute. The problems on ST were not fixed until replacing personnel in both units after mid season. ErvIn balances out what they lost in Davis, which did not come till the regular season was almost done. Gute has done a mass turnover in 2 years without gutting the core units and rebuilding most of the defense to Pettine's specs. Good chance Packer GM Gute is going to be GM of the year..

Last time Davis was healthy, he was the #2 punt return man in the league in terms of YPR. So many poor decisions.
Davis' 'poor decisions' were far overblown by fans who don't follow analytics.

I guess neither the Raiders nor Packers cared much about the analytics and stats from previous years either. Both teams moved on from him.
We'll have to agree to disagree on how good of a move it was.

22 players on this team (excluding ST)
Obviously you’d expect this team to have high representation from teams picking early in the draft. 6 of these players were off the board by the time GB drafted at #12.
I think this is pretty incredible for Gute, considering on draft day he’d probably guarantee that Gary isn’t on this list. I think he knew he was a project and would have Smith/Smith/Fackrell taking most of his reps away.
To get two guys on this list when the first pick was specifically used with 2021 and beyond in mind is a home-run.

...said differently, I think Gute could have easily taken Burns/Lawrence if his goal was just to get the biggest rookie year impact. He chose Gary specifically for 2021 and beyond, essentially taking that pick out of contention for a big rookie year impact.

Two guys on the all rookie team is nice.
In addition there is Gary (who we all knew would take time to be ready), there is TE Jace Sternberger (never expect much from a TE in his rookie year), DL Kingsley Keke who has shown some promise, and even 6th round pick CB Ka'Dar Hollman. This might have been a banner draft year for Gute - looking forward to the progress of these guys in 2020.
When you add the success of the 2019 veteran additions, the Packers have become better in a hurry. Even late season pickups Ervin and Veldheer have proved their worth.

I seemed to me that veldheer quit because of the wear and tare on his body and not wanting to go through all that. I feel like he would love to be an incase of emergency break glass type back up. He won't have to take all the punishment each week but will still get the compitition and enjoy being part of a team and while pulling in a decent check. But that's just my opinion from the interviews I've seen since he came to the team.

Watching the draft live I thought we would take DT Dexter Lawrence since we signed the Smiths already. What a draft that would have been.
In what round was Dre Greenlaw drafted? We could have used a guy like him at ILB.
The WR class was strong considering they left off DK Metcalf, Deeboo Samuel, and Darrius Slayton.

This shows exactly why you can't fall in love with one player in the NFL Draft. Last year I really wanted AJ Brown. We ended up going with Elgton Jenkins, who I also liked quite a bit. A lot of Packers fans boo'd the pick because they wanted Brown or someone else. Well, it turns out that both Brown and Jenkins are really good players, and while we were right about Brown, there was absolutely no reason to boo Jenkins.
Look at the Savage pick as well. Some people liked it, but a lot of people didn't, especially given the trade up. I saw the traits (especially speed), but I was a bit worried about some things such as the distance a WR could get when making a cut. It turns out that his speed is good enough to make up for that with the improvements he made. We traded up with Seattle for #21 Overall, and we gave up #30 Overall and two 4th Rounders. Savage was a big part of our Defense. Every time he goes out we get eaten alive with Redmond in there. Ironically, Savage just helped us knock out Seattle. Without Savage, we lose to Seattle.

No Deebo Samuel or DK Metcalf on the team. I don't break down all-22 of all 32 teams to know if that was an injustice or not. I just know that both made solid contributions on really good teams. That just goes to show you can find rookie WR help these days. Pass happy college offenses are churning them out. Which bodes well for the Packers in a 2020 draft said to be loaded with WR talent.
