Packers In The Community: Week 4

Frequently overlooked is what the Green Bay Packers players and the organization are doing outside the playing field. In an attempt to bring light to their charitable contributions to the community and balanced coverage, we bring you this weekly feature...

  • Lambeau Field will be decorated with pink elements and Packers players will wear pink this Sunday for the game against the Lions in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Packers are also partnering with the American Cancer Society for a campaign called “A Crucial Catch: Annual Screening Saves Lives" that encourages annual mammograms for women over 40:

Other pink elements fans will notice include pink ribbon stencils on Lambeau Field, pink wall banners, pink goal post padding, special game balls with pink ribbon decals, a pink coin used for the coin toss and pink-trimmed sideline caps for coaches and team personnel. Players will be using and wearing pink equipment, including pink cleats, wristbands, gloves, sideline caps, helmet decals, sideline towels and quarterback towels. Game officials will be wearing pink caps and pins.

The season-long awareness campaign, called “Protection is the Name of the Game,” is an extension of Verizon Wireless award-winning HopeLine program. It will include a phone drive at all Packers home games during the regular season; financial donations to domestic violence organizations in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula; and a public service announcement featuring [Jordy Nelson] and his wife.

White is in his seventh year as head coach of the Golden Beavers, who have begun the season 4-1, the program’s best start in 30 years. Beaver Dam enters Friday’s matchup against Oconomowoc (Wis.) seeking a victory to secure its first winning season since 1996.
