Packers' Davante Adams, Raiders' Jordy Nelson prepare for reunion in Oakland

-- "Oh yeah, no doubt," said Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams after Monday's practice. His excitement to see his former teammate on Friday in Oakland blatantly evident.

The Packers meet the Raiders Friday night for what will be their third exhibition game, and they'll be up against a familiar face in wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who previously spent 10 seasons in Green Bay.

For someone who spent a decade donning green and gold, it would seem almost informal to pass off Nelson's transition to silver and black as anything less than strange. It'll take some getting used to -- not just for Adams, but for most of his ex-teammates.

"It's already weird," Adams said. "I've been seeing it on social media. I don't know if I like it. He looks kinda different in that black and silver.

"I'm happy for him, but I don't know if I like it though."

It's also no guarantee that either Adams or Nelson play. It's standard protocol around the league for starters to play extensively into their respective games in the third week of the preseason, however, the Packers have seemed like they're taking a different route and seeing what they have in their backups this year.

It's not like the Packers need to see much out of Adams anyway at this point. In what minuscule action he's received through the first half of the preseason, he has 84 yards on three catches, including a 48-yard reception to open the game against the Tennesee Titans and a 27-yard catch-and-run the following week against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"We've been able to show in this little amount of time that we're ready to go," Adams said. "Get our plays run some of that stuff; I"m ready for the real action at this point. Preseason's fun, you get to interact with your crowd a little bit. But I'm definitely ready -- I wouldn't mind holding off until the season at this point."

There's going to be plenty of those types of opportunities for Adams to take advantage of in his fifth season, especially now that he's the Packers' primary target with Nelson out of the picture.

"You start to become numb a little bit to it at this point. It's year five now, you see people come and go all the time. It's definitely a little different when you got a guy who's been showing you the way here since you first came into the league."

Adams and Nelson's new quarterback, Derek Carr, established an on-field connection long before Nelson was a Raider. The two earned First-team All-MWC honors in back-to-back years at Fresno State en route to Adams amassing over 3,000 receiving yards during those 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Off the field, Adams gets to bask in his own homecoming.

Born in Redwood City and attending high school in Palo Alto, California, it won't matter how much he plays, but being able to suit up and see the field in front of his hometown crowd even for just a handful of snaps is worthwhile.

"It's definitely fun. Being able to be in front of my family, my real home crowd back where I'm from. I don't know how much I'm going to be going, it's just good to be able to get in front of them a little bit."

It will be a bitter sweet moment when the Packers players and coaches meet Jordy as the teams prepare to do battle. I'm sure once the game starts it will be all business from both teams, as it should be. I'm sure Rodgers and Jordy will exchange some laughs and greet each other with a hardy hand shake, a smile, and perhaps a hug or two. And probably both will wish they were still playing together as a Green Bay Packer. But life goes on and times change as players move on and teams do what they need to do to prepare for the present and future. I wish Jordy the best. He will forever be a Packer to the fans who rooted for him while wearing the green and gold. Just not when he happens to be on the same field and same day, dressed in a different uniform other than the green and gold. Go! Pack! Go!

It would be cool if Arod, Cobb & Jordy all did the 'spin the football' thing together before the game just for old times sake. :)

Damn Worz, I truly wish you the best! The real hero’s in this life are the ones who face adversity with courage and humor.
Players are people too, and they make friends on and off the practice field. But on the field and game time it’s ON baby.
