Packers Daily Links: Team Watches Jones Run 4.28

The Green Bay Packers were reportedly in attendance at Eastern Washington running back Taiwan Jones' pro day. "Source told me that Taiwan Jones ran as fast as 4.28 today," writes Bill Huber of Packer Report on Twitter. A lot of times scouts will subtract time due to the surface players run on, but 4.28 is blazing any way you slice it. Jones is coming off a broken foot, which is the reason for his late and individual workout.

Aaron Rodgers has the no. 2 selling jersey among all NFL players over the course of the last year. "It's the first time Rodgers has had more jersey sales than Favre, who retired from the NFL in January," points out Michael McCarthy of USA Today. Linebacker Clay Matthews checked in with the no. 8 selling jersey overall.

Aaron Rodgers chimed in on the voting to be on the cover of the next Madden video game. “I don’t like losing and I don’t believe in the curse," Rodgers wrote on Twitter according to Jeff Ash of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Rodgers was actually losing in the tournament-style voting that has him going up against Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis.

Assistant coach Edgar Bennett talked to the Packers' official website about his switch to coaching wide receivers this upcoming season. “They brought me in, asked me my thoughts and wanted to know what I thought I could bring to the table,” Bennett is quoted as saying. “They have a lot of faith in me and I’m thankful for that. I’m going to make the most of this opportunity but, really, it’s always been about actions rather than what I say. That’s always been my approach when showing what something means to me.” Bennett had coached exclusively running backs up until this point.

A pair of Packers are getting their numbers retired by their high school. "This is a big week for Green Bay Packers safety Morgan Burnett and offensive lineman Nick McDonald," writes Jeff Ash. "They’re getting their high school jersey numbers retired." That's what happens when you're a Super Bowl champion.

An interview with college prospect Lane Olson of the Unversity of Wisconsin-Whitewater conducted by Brian Higgins of PocketDoppler indicates he's talked to pretty much every team in the NFL, and that most likely includes the Green Bay Packers. "I’ve talked to pretty much every NFL team during the season," said Olson. "They basically interrogate you and ask you questions, but nothing pulling you in one direction. They mostly say that you are only as good as your last year, so give it your all your senior year, train hard, and go from there." Olson was a captain on Whitewater's Division III national championship team.

Another post on PocketDoppler includes a take on running back Brandon Jackson from Zac Calvelli. "His frustration at not becoming the featured back for the Packers must be killing him, but he has always been gracious in face of the media," writes Calvelli. "He’s now switched agents to Drew Rosenhaus.  In all likelihood, he’ll want to go to a team that will give him more carries than will be available to him in Green Bay. On the other hand, he may be more valuable to Green Bay than to other teams out there."

Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette looks at how a rookie wage scale would have impacted the Packers over the past decade.

Packer Report says Villanova quarterback Chris Whitney worked out for the Packers this week (subscription required).

The wide receiver position is analyzed by Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel prior to the draft.

Taiwan Jones? That's just asking for trouble with the People's Republic of China. Trouble we don't need.
