Packers Daily Links: Season Ticket Waiting List Grows to 96,000

The season ticket waiting list gets bigger as construction continues at Lambeau Field. That and more in today's Daily Links...

With construction underway for a seating expansion at Lambeau Field, the Packers reported the season ticket waiting has grown to new heights. "The new seats, scheduled to be completed for the 2013 season, also won’t do much to reduce the season-ticket waiting list, which the Packers said Thursday has grown to 96,000," reports Richard Ryman of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Blame a Super Bowl victory and a 15-1 season for the list growing from 87,000 this year. The Packers have not said how new seats will be sold." The Packers have said that current season-ticket holders will be offered new seats in the club area, however, before offering vacated seats to those on the waiting list.

More on the Lambeau Field expansion comes from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Packers official website.

It's was nearly a case of "all hands on deck" at practice on Thursday. "Center Scott Wells and inside linebacker D.J. Smith returned to practice today after missing Wednesday for undisclosed reasons," writes Pete Dougherty at PackersNews.com. The only player not at practice was running back James Starks, showing the Packers are pretty healthy as they close out the bye week in the first round of the NFL playoffs. In the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Dougherty reported Smith was ill on Wednesday.

An additional practice report is published at JSOnline.

The Raiders hired Packers front office man Reggie McKenzie as their next general manager. "First reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers director of football operations confirmed the news via a text message Thursday night but declined further comment," writes Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com. "Multiple reports had McKenzie formally interviewing for the job on Wednesday, although the Raiders have been interested in McKenzie since shortly after the October passing of owner Al Davis, who had served as the team’s de facto general manager." As someone who's heavily involved in both pro and college scouting, McKenzie's presence will be missed.

More on Reggie McKenzie comes from NBC Bay Area, JSOnline and PackersNews.com.

Expanding upon the news that offensive lineman T.J. Lang's father has passed away is Jason Wilde. "Lang spoke openly with beat writers on several occasions about his father being ill, and Tom Lang was able to travel from the family’s home outside of Detroit to spend Christmas with his son and grandson, J.J.," writes Wilde. Lang, presumably, will attend to family issues this weekend.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers shook off the notion that he might be rusty when the Packers return to action in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. "The next time Aaron Rodgers steps under center, it will have been 20 days since he last played for the Green Bay Packers," notes Chris Jenkins of the Associated Press. Rodgers talked about the need to stay mentally sharp and seemed to indicate that the opportunity to rest was beneficial.

More on Aaron Rodgers comes from the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Fox Sports Wisconsin, PackersNews.com and a video at PackersNews.com.

Cornerback Tramon Williams is featured in an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Bottom line, Williams' hasn't been the same shut-down, no-trespassing cover man of a year ago," writes reporter Tyler Dunne. "For the Packers to return to the Super Bowl, they may need him to be. Williams remains confident." Williams struggled against Calvin Johnson this past week, but he has played well in spurts this year. His performance in the playoffs definitely will be magnified.

Several articles were published in the past day focusing on the Packers' unique playoff issues such as meeting regular season again in the postseason, being the hunted instead of the hunter and maintaining urgency. Those such articles can be found at ESPNMilwaukee.com, Packer Report, Fox Sports Wisconsin, the Press-Gazette and Packers official website.

Quarterbacks coach Tom Clements did not receive the Penn State head coaching job. More from ESPNMilwaukee.com and AllGreenBayPackers.com.

I think I hate to lose the front office guys more than assistant coaches.

I hope McKenzie will be afforded time. Can't do much with so many players tied due to big contracts and so little draft picks to work with.

I'm just hoping that the upcoming Lambeau renovation adds 45,000 seats so I can finally get my season ticket! ;/

No kidding. I got on the list in 1977 when turning 18, and at this rate will be about 153 yrs. old before my number is called.
