Packers Daily Links: Rodgers Is Favorite To Win NFL MVP Award

The odds of Aaron Rodgers winning the NFL's MVP Award is 11-2. That and more in today's Daily Links...

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the odds-on favorite to win the NFL's MVP Award, according to Bodog.com. "Not surprisingly, Rodgers, at 11-2, leads a stacked pack of quarterbacks in the top eight," writes Vinnie Iyer of the Sporting News. "Rounding out the top 11 is a three-way tie between two running backs (the Vikings' Adrian Peterson, the Titans' Chris Johnson) and a ninth quarterback (the Cowboys' Tony Romo) at 20-1." Tom Brady is second behind Rodgers at 13-2 odds.

With news that Lambeau Field seating is being expanded, that also means the season ticket waiting list is going to get smaller. "The new seats in the south end zone will be available first to season-ticket holders based on seniority," writes Richard Ryman of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Their empty seats, in turn, will be sold to people on the Packers’ waiting list of 87,000 names." That's fantastic news to fans who have been on the waiting list for years, if not decades to get season tickets.

Packers president Mark Murphy is compared to former president Bob Harlan as an executive that put his stamp on the franchise of the team in an article at Packer Report. "In 2011, the Packers are favorites to make it back-to-back Super Bowl championships with quarterback Aaron Rodgers at the height of his powers," writes Bill Huber. "With that success, Harlan’s successor, Mark Murphy, hopes a rabid fan base is ready to help again. On Thursday, Murphy announced plans to expand Lambeau’s capacity by an additional 6,600 seats to about 79,700, a project that potentially will be funded in part through the fifth stock sale in franchise history."

More on the new Lambeau Field expansion appears at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, ESPNMilwaukee.com, OnMilwaukee.com, ESPN.com, the Press-Gazette, the Packers official website and via the Associated Press.

An article on the five tight ends fighting for roster spots is written by Lori Nickel of the Journal Sentinel. "The last two preseason games - Friday night at Indianapolis and Sept. 1 against the Chiefs - provide final opportunities for the five tight ends to jostle for a place on the depth chart or a roster spot at all," writes Nickel. "Finley will play Friday, but there's no need to look at him too extensively, which means the others will get playing time. Their performances will carry a lot of weight for the coaches looking for further evaluation clues."
