Packers Daily Links: Receivers Come in for Visits

The Packers reportedly had Toney Clemons of Colorado and Tyler Shoemaker of Boise State in for visits. That and more in today's Daily Links...

The Green Bay Packers recently brought in two wide receivers receivers for pre-draft visits, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Among the players the Packers brought in for pre-draft visits were Colorado's Toney Clemons and Boise St.'s Tyler Shoemaker, a pair of big receivers expected to be drafted in the late rounds, and at the worst, sign as priority free agents," writes Silverstein. As the reports notes, just because the Packers brought them in for a visit doesn't mean they'll draft them or sign them, but it does indicate interest. There's always a need for training camp receiving targets, and the Packers will be sure to sign at least a couple of them after the Draft.

A scout from the Packers reportedly talked with former South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia, a player with a troubled past. "At his workout, Garcia talked to several teams, including a scout from the Packers," writes Tyler Dunne at JSOnline about Garcia's pro day. "Whichever team gives Garcia a chance will be looking for a total flip in focus, discipline, etc." The same goes for Garcia as it does the receivers. The Packers are just doing their due diligence on a player.

Linebacker Clay Matthews joined Doug Farrar on Yahoo Sports' The Shutdown Corner podcast, posted on Sunday. In it, he talked about his appearance in the Depend Real Fit adult diaper commercial. "This is definitely not the norm," said Matthews. "I first was approached [to do it], I think, by chance, because the marketing direction in this case was to try something new. It was to go against the grain, but for a good cause. So, my initial reaction was ... what I think everybody else's was, which was, 'Absolutely not -- what are you thinking? This is something that doesn't affect me; I'm part of the younger generation.' Through the years, it's been a subject of sensitivity, so you have that knee-jerk reaction. But the more I looked at that this was about, and the direction they were trying to move as well as the staggering numbers, plus the charitable aspect of this -- we've donated over $150,000 to the Jimmy V Foundation." Matthews also talks about a variety of football topics as well. Give it a listen.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers attended a Milwaukee Bucks game this past weekend. "Rodgers didn't just sit courtside Saturday night and watch the Milwaukee Bucks win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive," writes Paul Imig of Fox Sports Wisconsin. "The NFL MVP also broke important NBA playoff news to Brandon Jennings on the court. That news was that the Philadelphia 76ers -- the team the Bucks are desperately chasing for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference -- won in overtime in Indiana." Appears as if Rodgers is keeping busy on the weekends while attending the Packers' offseason workout program during the week.

The running back position is featured today in an NFL Draft Preview series by Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel with an article on Alabama's Trent Richardson, a ranking of the prospects and a notes section.

NFL Draft position profiles appear on quarterbacks at the Green Bay Press-Gazette, defensive line at ESPNMilwaukee.com and the safeties at Fox Sports Wisconsin.

A pre-draft analysis of the tight ends on the Packers roster is posted at PackersNews.com.

NFL Draft features on Brandon Hardin and Antonio Dennard are published at Packer Report.
