Former Wisconsin Badgers running back P.J. Hill had a tryout with the Packers on Monday, according to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Hill, 5 feet 10 inches and 218 pounds, has been out of football since being released by the New Orleans Saints in February," writes McGinn. Badgers fans will remember him as a three-time 1,000 rusher in college. But he's a poor man's Ron Dayne: good enough to succeed at the college level but too big and slow for the NFL. The Packers also had wide receiver T.J. Green in for a workout. There's no guarantee the Packers will sign either.

When the Packers signed offensive lineman Herb Taylor yesterday, they passed up on former Packer Mark Tauscher. "Tauscher’s father, Denny, said that his son had yet to file his official NFL retirement papers, but when Tauscher worked as a guest color analyst on the broadcast of the University of Wisconsin’s regular-season finale against Penn State, he indicated he was finished playing," writes Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com. Taylor figures to be the top backup at tackle on Sunday when the Packers face the Bears while Ray Dominguez will be a reserve on the interior of the offensive line.

Details of practice squad wide receiver Tori Gurley's pay raise are published by Rob Demovsky of the Press-Gazette. "Gurley’s weekly paycheck, beginning last week, increased from $5,700 to $22,058," writes Demovsky. "Gurley’s base salary on the practice squad was $96,900, while the rookie minimum this season is $375,000. Players are paid in 17-week installments." Last week Gurley spurned an offer to join the 53-man roster of the Minnesota Vikings to remain with the Packers. To stay with the Packers, Green Bay increased his pay.

A feature on Charles Woodson appears at Fox Sports Wisconsin focusing on how the 35-year-old cornerback is playing well at his relatively advanced age for an NFL player. Woodson doesn't lack in confidence. "To be honest with you, I look around the league now and I don't see anybody playing better than me at corner," Woodson said. Woodson has lost a step and struggles following receiver downfield. But the Packers know better than to put him in those types of situations. Woodson defends the slot as frequently as possible and as good as anyone in the league at that spot.

An article by Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel examines an aspect of Aaron Rodgers' game that's been talked about in the past: his running. "Initially, (the coaches) wanted 10 yards a game, 160 a season, on average," writes Nickel. "Rodgers rushed for 329 yards (including playoffs) in his second starting season in 2009. Then he rushed for 410 yards last year. He calculates, quickly, that was about 20 yards per game." Perhaps even more than his running totals is his ability to keep plays alive with his legs. He can avoid a pass rush and still deliver a throw, and that's invaluable.
